Family of victim in Stockton serial killings calls for justice
The family of 43-year-old Salvador Debudey, Jr. is looking for answers after he was shot and killed in August in what Stockton police are calling a string of homicides believed to be interconnected.
The Stockton native leaves behind a wife and a 14-year-old daughter.
Stockton police said Debudey's murder is one in a string of unsolved deadly shootings since July that they believe may be connected. In each case, police said, the victim was a man who was killed while by himself after dark.
These are the five cases believed to be linked:
- July 8 - 35-year-old Paul Alexander Yaw was killed at the 5600 block of Kermit Lane at 12:31 a.m.
- Aug. 11 - 43-year-old Salvador William Debudey, Jr. was killed at the 4900 block of West Lane at 9:49 p.m.
- Aug. 30 - 21-year-old Hispanic man was killed at the 800 block of East Hammer Lane at 6:41 a.m.
- Sept. 21 - 52-year-old Hispanic man was killed at the 4400 block of Manchester Avenue at 4:27 a.m.
- Sept. 27 - 54-year-old Lorenzo Lopez was killed at the 900 block of Porter Avenue at 1:51 a.m.
"It’s caused a lot of pain, a lot of pain to our family," said Analydia Lopez, the wife of Salvador Debudey.
She said she met Debudey roughly 28 years ago when they were students at Franklin High School. They reconnected later in life and were married for 12 years.
Debudey was shot to death just before 10 p.m. on Aug. 11 in a parking lot near Popeyes off West Lane, according to Stockton police.
"To be honest with you, a part of me died with him that day," Lopez said. "It's been hard. It's been really, really hard."
In addition to his wife and daughter, Debudey is survived by his three younger brothers and his mother and father. The family is now left wondering who killed the 43-year-old.
"I know somebody saw something and, if you did, please say something," Lopez pleaded.
Police released a dark image of a person of interest whom they are trying to identify, and they have said they do not know if one or more people are behind the murders.
"We just want to know what happened. It's been a tremendous tragedy for our family, and we just want answers," Lopez said.
