SARGENT, Texas (KBTX) - Matagorda County Judge Bobby Seiferman said Tuesday half the county has had its power restored after Hurricane Beryl knocked out power to all 34,000 customers in the county.

Seiferman said he had been told power would be completely restored by Thursday evening.

“We took ground zero,” Seiferman said. “It came in right at Matagorda, which is the midway point for Matagorda County, and it went right up, right up the middle, and I think the entire county took it, took an equal hit.”

Seiferman said thankfully nobody in the county was seriously injured or killed despite taking the direct hit.

“Sargant, Texas seems to have incurred the most damage and the most flooding as well,” Seiferman said.

Homes along the gulf coast community of Sargent sustained visible damage, some destroyed.

Residents had access to water and food at the Sargent Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday.

Seiferman said the county has been in close contact with the Texas Department of Emergency Management, the governor’s office, and they expect more help from the state in the coming days.
