Bryan police investigating fireworks incident during First Friday that left some people injured
The incident was captured on a KBTX camera during our 10 p.m. live broadcast Friday night.
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Bryan Police Department is investigating an incident with fireworks that left several people with non-life-threatening injuries, according to multiple witnesses.
It happened just after 10 p.m. as First Friday festivities and events were winding down at the intersection of W 26th Street and Main.
A very loud boom noise could be heard throughout the downtown area and the fireworks explosion could be seen live on-air during KBTX’s 10 p.m. broadcast.
According to multiple witnesses that Rusty Surette spoke to downtown at the time, a group of juveniles were gathered at the intersection and they took off running after tossing the fireworks either towards or into a crowd of people. One witness said he overheard the teens discussing doing it right before it happened.
An ambulance was called to the scene for medics to treat at least one person who suffered injuries as a result of the fireworks. On Facebook, another second person shared photos of his injuries and said he and at least two others were injured.
Police were seen speaking to several young people to gather statements but it’s unclear if anyone was arrested.
