NEW ORLEANS (WVUE/Gray News) - A Louisiana family says their child is out of the intensive care unit at the hospital after spending weeks fighting for his life following a crash.

Grayson Manning, 12, was hit by a truck on Father’s Day in the Slidell area.

According to Slidell police, Grayson ran into the street while chasing his dog when he was struck by a Ram 2500 pickup truck near the intersection of Fremaux Avenue and 10th Street.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and has since undergone numerous surgeries.

Grayson’s parents said his surgeries have included repairing facial and skull injuries and helping manage brain swelling.

“I received one of the worst calls as I was leaving work yesterday. That my baby was fighting for his life after a tragic incident,” his father shared.

But the 12-year-old has battled through his injuries as he continues his recovery and this week his parents said he was finally moved out of the ICU and he is breathing on his own.

Grayson’s family expressed their gratitude for the prayers and support they have received and continue to ask for the community’s support.

“Grayson has a very long road ahead and I want to thank everyone for the prayers and support they have provided our family so far,” his parents said.

A blood drive was held over the weekend in his honor.

The family has also started a GoFundMe for assistance.
