DEAL, England – Jaime Montojo, a rising junior on the Texas A&M men’s golf team, qualified for the 152nd Open Championship with a gritty 36-hole performance in Tuesday’s qualifying tournament at Royal Cinque Ports.

Montojo carded a two-round tally of 3-under 141 to tie for second at the event. The Spaniard set the table with an opening round 1-under 71, including birdies on three of the last four holes, to sit in seventh place. Montojo fired birdies on five holes to post the third-best second-round score of the day at 2-under 70, into one of the four qualifying spots.

The Open, the oldest golf tournament in the world, is slated for July 18-21 at Royal Troon in South Ayrshire, Scotland.

Montojo tied for second on the Aggies in tournaments (13) and rounds (39). His 71.31 stroke average ranked third on the team. Montojo ended the season with a 685-442-35 W-L-T in 2023-24 to earn PING All-Central Region Team honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

The Madrid native scored his first collegiate win at the Aggie Invitational. He also finished third at the Marquette Intercollegiate and 10th at the Louisiana Classics. He made his debut on the DP World Tour last October, teeing off at the Estrella Damm Andalucia Masters at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande.
