NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) - Country music star Darius Rucker appeared in a Tennessee courtroom on Tuesday related to his drug charges in Williamson County.

Rucker, best known for being the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish, was arrested on Feb. 1, nearly a year after he was found with psychedelic drugs during a traffic stop in Franklin.

He appeared before Judge Denise Andre.

The 58-year-old was wearing a suit and glasses while appearing in court for a docket call.

Rucker’s attorney said his client has been fully cooperating with law enforcement since his arrest.

A Franklin Police Department officer said he pulled Rucker over for a traffic violation during his Feb. 23, 2023, arrest.

The officer said he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the singer’s pickup truck.

Police said Rucker told them that he had “smoked weed in the vehicle,” but not that night.

Officers said they found 14 unstamped, grayish and purple pills, a THC pen, and marijuana in his vehicle.

Rucker told police his girlfriend gave him the items and he did not know what the pills were.

An arrest warrant was later signed after the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said the pills tested positive for psilocybin, a psychedelic and a controlled substance.

Rucker is facing charges that include simple possession, casual exchange and violation of registration law – all misdemeanors.

He was released from the county jail on a $10,500 bond with his court date rescheduled to Sept. 10.
