LAS VEGAS (KVVU/Gray News) - The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a Southwest Airlines flight that dropped to about 500 feet above the ground earlier this week.

Southwest flight 4069 was heading from Las Vegas to Oklahoma City on Wednesday when it descended, triggering an altitude warning from air traffic control that it was getting too low.

According to FlightAware, the plane was 16 minutes late and had to circle around before finally landing at Will Rogers World Airport.

Representatives with Southwest Airlines said they are aware of the situation and have been in contact with the FAA.

“Southwest is following its robust Safety Management System and is in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration to understand and address any irregularities with the aircraft’s approach to the airport. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees,” a Southwest Airlines spokesperson shared in a statement.

Just last week another Southwest flight is also under investigation after it dropped within 400 feet of the ocean while flying to a Hawaiian island.
