BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - When it comes to choosing a non-profit to support, many of us dedicate our time and money to one or two groups that align with our passions. However, one Brazos Valley man has taken a different approach, spreading his time and talents across multiple organizations.

Jimmy Braden’s extensive volunteer efforts have earned him the title of this week’s Be Remarkable recipient.

It came as no surprise that when the Be Remarkable team sought out Mr. Braden to present him with the award, they found him hard at work at the American Red Cross office in Bryan. This is just one of the many non-profit organizations where he donates his time. When asked about his inspiration, Brayden shared:

“A big part of it is that this community inspires me very much. The College Station Noon Lions Club sets a very good example. Their motto is ‘We serve,’ and they really take that to heart. All Lions do that, but our Noon Lions Club truly believes in finding where the need is. Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Mobility Worldwide are two very good charities that we contribute to, and it makes it easy to get involved,” said Braden.

Braden strongly believes in giving back to the community. He has been a member of the College Station Noon Lions Club for nearly two decades. Whether it’s one of the organizations already mentioned or the Texas RAMP Project, Brazos Valley Food Bank, Bridge Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, or Toys for Tots, this Bryan resident’s passion for helping others intensified following the passing of his mother.

“It was obvious that I had a lot more time on my hands, and my mother had volunteered a lot. This community was good to her, so it makes it easy,” Braden explained.

Braden was nominated for this week’s award by his friend Denise Schigut.

“I figured he was pretty remarkable,” said Schigut. “He certainly is a generous man, and he should be recognized for it.”

As a Be Remarkable recipient, Jimmy Brayden receives $500 from Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers. Like many winners before him, he is humbled by the recognition.

“I’m honored that y’all would consider me for this. I’ve seen the other people who have received the gifts and the recognition, and I didn’t think I was in that class. But thank you very much,” he said.

The “Be Remarkable” award is a joint initiative between KBTX-TV and Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers.
