BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - From Uvalde and currently calling College Station home, Jerry Almaraz is a solo artist who also plays with his band Sandlot Days. Almaraz joined First News at Four for Free Music Friday.

He and his band will perform at the 10th annual BCS Chamber of Commerce Founder’s Night.

Almaraz said he takes inspiration from his roots in the Uvalde area and growing up near the Frio River. “A buddy of mine, his parents own the then called House Pastor, so all those old guys, Randy Rogers, the Ryan Bingham’s, the Kyle Parks, they all used to roll through there and they were like superstars to us growing up.”

Almaraz performed his song “I Don’t Care” on First News at Four. He said the inspiration for that song comes from his friend, Conner Arthur, who has played a major role in getting him to where he is today. “We were practicing for an upcoming show. We were on stage and stayed up late one night with some drinks around, some adult beverages, and wrote that tune.”
