BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Another round of severe weather will move across the Lone Star State on Tuesday, trying to bring the Brazos Valley isolated rumbles through the afternoon and widespread storms by the late evening hours.

SETUP:

Northwest flow will take over on Tuesday as a boundary works across the state... and in the First Alert Weather Center, we never trust a northwest flow. This setup, in addition to the robust cap we have in place, makes Tuesday’s storm chance a tricky one.

The strength and longevity of these storms will largely depend on the the atmosphere’s ability to erode the capping inversion throughout the day. Storm development got going early for the the DFW Metroplex, and is working its way to the southeast as we approach midday.

IMPACTS:

Damaging winds and hail will be the primary concern with any storms that are able to make it to our neck of the woods. Wind gusts upwards of 75mph, along with egg sized hail will be possible in our most intense storms. With that being said, we cannot rule out the potential for localized flooding and/or a few tornadoes.

TIMING:

As of Tuesday morning, high resolution model data tells us scattered severe activity will be possible between 12pm-4pm. If this activity remains more isolated in nature, we will expect a strong line of thunderstorms to arrive in our northern counties around 11:00pm and exit just before sunrise Wednesday morning. If the afternoon activity is more widespread in nature, it will limit daytime heating and instability, which would work to inhibit later storm development. Regardless of intensity, we expect two rounds of rain and storms Tuesday, where all severe hazards will be possible. Once we it sunrise on Wednesday morning, activity will settle down, however we will likely still see some lingering showers and sub-severe storms through the day.

We know that severe weather season can seem repetitive, but Tuesday’s risk is just as important as any previous, so be sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. A great resource for that is the KBTX Weather App.
