BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Good news! Both the Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Watches have been allowed to expire or canceled early. Though flooding is ongoing, we expect continued improvement tonight into tomorrow.

An additional thunderstorm or two is possible late tonight into tomorrow morning, but the severe threat is relatively low and much more isolated, if any. Updates can always been found here and on your KBTX Weather app.

Thursday is a First Alert Weather Day, as our next round of rain and thunderstorms arrives. They have the potential to bring strong to severe weather to portions of the Brazos Valley. Here is what we are watching.

A Tornado WATCH (yellow) has been issued for the majority of the Brazos Valley until 10pm. While a tornado or two cannot be ruled out, we still expect the main threat to be heavy rain and flooding through the remainder of the evening. Live updates can be found online, in your KBTX Weather app, and on-air throughout our evening shows and as necessary.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch (pink) remains in effect for Milam, Robertson, Leon, and Lee counties until 5pm.

  • WHO: Milam, Roberston, Leon, and Lee Counties
  • WHEN: Until 5 pm
  • IMPACTS: Wind gusts up to 70mph, scattered hail to the size of an egg (2″ in diameter), a couple of tornadoes possible in the strongest storms.
  • WHAT TO MONITOR: A line of rain and thunderstorms is expected to move through Thursday afternoon and evening. Specifically we will monitor the leading edge of this line for the strongest activity.

While severe storms will be a possibility, heavy rain remains a large concern for the entire Brazos Valley and more specifically for areas along and east of I-45. Widespread rainfall totals of 2-3″ with localized totals of 4-6″ or more will be a possibility through Thursday night. Even before considering saturated soils, that type of rain could be enough to cause problems on roadways. A FLOOD WATCH has been issued for the majority of the area until 7 am Friday morning.
