BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - 3pm update: Thanks to this afternoon round of widespread storms and lingering cloud cover, the Watch has been trimmed back to only include Austin, Waller, Montgomery, and San Jacinto counties until 8pm. Significant storms are still possible in these areas, but the severe threat will wind down throughout the evening.

Ahead of anticipated strong storms this afternoon and evening, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Lee, Burleson, Brazos, Washington, Grimes, Austin, Waller, Walker, Montgomery, and San Jacinto Counties until 8PM Monday evening.

Severe thunderstorms have been steadily tracking east from San Antonio through the morning, and are looking to arrive in our western counties just after midday. Heavy rain and storms are expected to become widespread across the area through the late afternoon/early evening hours. The strongest storms look to come together better across our southernmost counties, but all 16 counties could see severe weather before the day is done. The storms look to clear out pretty quickly after we get the sun to set, so this is not anticipated to be an overnight event.

Storm Timeline - May 13
Storm Timeline - May 13(kbtx)

These storms have a history of producing large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain, so we are monitoring them very closely as they approach the Brazos Valley. All severe hazards will be possible today, but our highest concern will be with flooding and large hail.

Today will be a day to stay weather aware, so be sure you have your KBTX Weather App on hand!
