BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Severe weather season is well underway, and this week brings yet another chance for storms to the Brazos Valley. Southeast Texas is included in the Storm Prediction Center’s severe weather outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. While the risk is not overwhelming, we are monitoring the chance to see strong to severe storms each day.

TUESDAY:

The northern reaches of the area are included in a level 1 out 5 risk for severe weather. The stronger storms will likely remain to our west, across San Antonio and Austin, but we will monitor for a few isolated cells to head our way through the evening. The main concern with these storms will be gusting winds a pocket change size hail.

WEDNESDAY:

The northern reaches of the area are included in a level 2 out 5 risk for severe weather, while the central counties are at a level 1 out of 5. The more elevated concern will be across the Midwest, where large hail and tornadoes are possible. Across the Brazos Valley, there is a pretty tight lid on the atmosphere, that will try to keep storms at bay. We will keep our eyes on storm development across central and northern Texas throughout the day, as they attempt to head to the southeast.

THURSDAY:

Thursday will bring our best chance at seeing severe weather. A cold front will be sliding across the state throughout the day, acting as a lifting mechanism to try and fire off storms on its way to the coast. The Storm Prediction Center has the entire Brazos Valley at a level 2 out of 5 for the day. The afternoon and evening hours will bring the greatest risk, however it is very conditional. The atmosphere will still be relatively capped, but we could get some peaks of sunshine that try to erode that cap. If storms do fire off, the primary concern will be with large hail and damaging winds, as well as isolated flooding.

We will keep you updated as new data continues to come into the weather center. Be sure you’ve got you KBTX Weather App on hand this week!
