COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - In the throes of grief, finding solace in the remnants of a shared life can be daunting. Yet, one local hospice chaplain has taken it upon herself to guide others through this emotional journey with her new book, “My Little Blue House: A Life After Love Story.”

Heidi Dixon has been named this week’s Be Remarkable winner, a testament to her unwavering dedication to helping others navigate the tumultuous waters of loss.

“This book details what life is like in the Little Blue House, which is the place that is the life that you built with that person who no longer lives there. And so there’s a loneliness that comes with that, but there is a way to live it. It is possible, and with other people who understand is the way to do so,” said Dixon.

Drawing inspiration from her weekly interactions with a grief support group, Dixon penned the book to shed light on grief’s darkness and instill a sense of hope and resilience in those grappling with loss. Along the way, Dixon, who is married, has learned many lessons.

“They continually hold my feet to the marriage fire because they’re like’ You don’t get forever’. Part of their message is to put your phone down and engage with the people around you because you know, of course, tomorrow isn’t promised.”

The illustrator for the book is Colleen Bradfield, who nominated Heidi for this week’s Be Remarkable award.

“She selflessly gives of her time to visit people throughout the Brazos Valley to give comfort and support during their end days. She can be seen on social media sharing stories and singing songs of hope and encouragement. Heidi always has time to stop and give her time and talent to help others and is an inspiration to all ages with her beautiful smile and positive energy,” said Bradfield.

Heidi works as a Hospice Chaplain at Acara Hospice in College Station. Her coworkers say her personality and genuine love for others make her the perfect person for the job.

To commemorate her achievement and share her message of hope, Dixon will be hosting a book signing event at The Arts Council on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. Go here for more details of the event.

The “Be Remarkable” award is a joint initiative between KBTX-TV and Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers.
