BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Our next weather system will move through the Brazos Valley on Thursday, setting up a day of active weather. Rounds of wet weather are anticipated at times throughout the day, with the possibility of seeing a few storms pulse up to strong to severe levels.

The midday update from the Storm Prediction Center on Thursday brought down the severe weather risk for the entire Brazos Valley. The entire areas is now included in the 1 out of 5 risk. All modes of severe weather will need to be monitored for, with a focus on hail and gusty winds.

The first round of activity brought scattered patches of rain and rumbles through the afternoon, with all activity staying sub-severe criteria. As we move into the evening hours our attention shifts to the next and more impactful and widespread round.

Round Two: 6 PM - Evening

The main cluster of activity looks to set to our west in the afternoon and arrive to the Brazos Valley into the evening. As of data Thursday afternoon, the best window for the more widespread activity sets up between 9 pm and midnight. As this line drifts into the area, the main concern it brings along are wind gusts 40-50mph or even faster in the strongest storms. A few isolated storms could drop some small hail, but through the evening our attention mostly turns to the wind concern.

It is a bit of a messy set-up, but by the time all is said and done by Friday 0.5″-1″ of rain is possible widespread, with localized totals closer to 2″ or greater. While most of us will see at least some rain tomorrow, the severe potential is not overly impressive but some storms could certainly pack a punch.
