It will be most interesting to see what Dacia’s new Duster will cost when it goes on sale here in September.

The new, third generation has just been unveiled and the brand is already saying it will be the best value for money in its category.

The Duster was launched in 2010 and overhauled for the first time in 2017. To date, 2.4 million have been made.

The new car promises more passenger and luggage space but remains at 4.34m long. Watch out for the Sleep Pack – a removable three-in-one box containing a double bed you can deploy in two minutes, a tray table and storage space.

The hybrid 140 powertrain comprises a 4cyl, 1.6-litre, 94hp petrol engine, two electric motors (49hp and starter generator), and an electric automatic gearbox.

For the first time in a Duster there will be a TCe 130 petrol. It has a 3cyl, 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 48v mild-hybrid motor that helps the engine when the starts or accelerates.

There is a choice of 6spd gearbox in the 4x2 and 4x4 versions. And there is the Duster Eco-G 100 with dual-fuel (petrol and LPG) option. Inside there will be a 7in digital cluster, new 10.1in central touchscreen and new infotainment system.

Around 70pc of buyers opt for the higher-end trims nowadays, so there will be Essential, Expression and a choice between two other trims: Extreme and Journey.

The current model begins at €23,950. Watch this space.
