Trip down memory lane as the Morris Minor celebrates 75 years

The Morris Minor was the first British car to sell one million

It is hard to believe, but the Morris Minor is celebrating its 75th birthday this year.

We had one and did things with it that no car should have be asked to do on the road or in the hayfield. Yes, it sure marked our introduction to motoring and we enjoyed it.

There was something about it from the moment it made its October 1948 debut as the series MM (not that I remember that, I’d like you to know).

It started out its life as a two-door saloon or a convertible named the “Tourer” but the famous “Traveller” joined the range in 1953.

It went on to become the first British car to sell more than a million. Not bad for a car that motor boss William Norris called the “poached egg” when he saw it initially.

And it’s great to see so many still on the road. One of the great things about them is the owners’ club and the specialists who can get you nearly anything to keep your car on the road.

Here’s to another 75 years.
