The Captur crossover has been quite a success for Renault – more than two million have been bought in 90 countries around the world.

Its popularity stems from its practicality and smart looks. Renault has just given it a major revision, with an eye-catching new front end and vastly improved interior. Prime focus inside is the OpenR Link infotainment system which has Google built-in through a new 10.4ins vertical touchscreen.

Wireless Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a wireless smartphone charger are standard across the range.

Interiors are linked to different colours, textures and materials depending on trim but there is no leather or chrome in keeping with the brand’s "green” policy. Rear-seat passengers appear to have been particularly well looked after with what Renault claim is “class-leading interior space” thanks to a back bench seat that slides by up to 16cm.

As well as 536 litres of luggage space there are 24.7 litres of in-cabin storage.

There will be three trim levels: evolution, techno and esprit Alpine. And two power trains: a one-litre TCe 90 petrol and a full hybrid E-Tech 145. It goes on sale in the third quarter of the year.

Some of the apps accessible via the OpenR Link multimedia system include: Waze, Amazon Music, Vivaldi, Radio Player for Renault and more.

On the E-Tech full hybrid 145, two electric motors (a 36kW e-motor and 18 kW HSG – high-voltage starter generator) combine with a 4cyl, 1.6-litre, 94 bhp petrol engine, and a 1.2 kWh battery.
