The new electric Smart Concept #5 will be unveiled tomorrow at the Beijing Motor Show.

The brand says it is the roomiest and most versatile vehicle it has made to date as it marks its entry into the premium mid-size SUV market.

There is an emphasis on sportiness with elements such as all-wheel drive and use of off-road tyres.

The SUV has a drive system with 800-volt technology and a nominal battery capacity of 100+ kWh. It can replenish up to 70pc charge (10-80pc) in just 15 minutes.

The mid-size SUV concept offers an all-electric range of more than 548km.

A wide console with a new HMI (human-machine-interface) design layout and two embedded screens in OLED technology dominate the dash. These provide easy access to several functions.

A key element will be a state-of-the-art tool by the generative AI specialists, Cerence.

It uses intelligent technologies to give “accurate and relevant answers to almost any question imaginable”.
