I subscribe to the Dublin Inquirer, which publishes a monthly print edition alongside its regularly updated website. If you live in the city, it’s a great source of information on local issues and what’s going on in Dublin City Council. The Dublin Inquirer team is also good at finding restaurants you don’t see written about in other places. Back in December, the paper’s Sam Tranum visited a new taco joint in Kilmainham, in a little space to the side of Cleary’s pub on Sarsfield Road. I like tacos (who doesn’t?) and I liked the sound of Tacos Lupillo.

I didn’t get around to going for a while, but I kept hearing about the queues outside every weekend. They were insane, people told me. And sometimes Tacos Lupillo sold out of tacos. I’m not the biggest fan of queueing for food at the best of times, but the idea of queueing and then not getting to eat is untenable. So we drop in mid-afternoon on a Wednesday, in the hope of avoiding the crowds. This turns out to be a good move and, though there’s a steady stream of customers and Deliveroo drivers, we’re able to order straightaway and nab a table. You can take the food away and eat in the pub next door if you buy drinks.
