Lottie Ryan has spoken out following speculation that she has been axed from her new 2FM radio show.

The daughter of radio legend Gerry Ryan was one of the faces of the music station’s new summer schedule after it was announced that she would be taking over from The 2 Johnnies on the Drivetime slot alongside David O’Reilly.

However, there has been several reports published this week claiming the mum-of-one is to be replaced by another presenter just one month into the role.

The Dubliner has now taken to social media to clear up any confusion about her role on 2FM, saying the agreement was only ever for a five-week stint.

Lottie added that she will be remaining at 2FM and said it was the term “summer schedule” that caused the confusion.

"I wanted to clear up some recent headlines about my role at 2FM,” she wrote on Instagram today.

“When it was announced that I would be taking over Drive, it was always agreed between me and my bosses that this would only be for a five-week stint.

“The term ‘summer schedule’ has led to some confusion, implying a 12-week duration. To clarify the plan was always for a short-term cover, and I knew this from the start.

“The phrase ‘summer schedule’ has led to all this confusion. I’m not going anywhere and I’m very much part of 2FM. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Drive team and it’s been an absolute joy working with such amazing people.”

She finished the post by thanking everyone for their support.

Last month, RTÉ unveiled their new 2FM line-up following several high-profile departures from the station.

It announced that Aifric O’Connell would replace Doireann Garrihy, while David O’Reilly and Lottie Ryan would take the 2 Johnnies’ drivetime slot on 2FM.

It came after Doireann Garrihy, Jennifer Zamparelli and the 2 Johnnies departed the crisis-hit station in the the space of a week.

Head of 2FM Dan Healy said the schedule is built with the audience in mind and that he believes the station has the “most exciting mission” in RTÉ.

Mr Healy said: "2FM has always been programmed with a mix of presenters who have learnt their craft here with personalities from outside who have built a profile with younger audiences.”

On Tuesday, Donncha O’Callaghan became the latest name to leave the station, announcing he would be quitting the breakfast show on 2FM.

The breakfast presenter took to Instagram yesterday to announce the news. "I’m sure we’d all agree, it’s never easy to step away from something you really enjoy doing.

"Friday the 5th July will be my last ‘2FM Breakfast’ Show. I’m so incredibly grateful and proud of the last five years in 2FM, I’ve absolutely loved it.”
