How to Make a Motorcycle
Sooner or later, you'll need to upgrade from a Bicycle to a better vehicle in 7 Days to Die – something like the Motorcycle. As with the Bicycle, the Motorcycle is a vehicle you can unlock and craft to take on joy rides and to help with daily looting.
How to Make a Motorcycle
To craft a Motorcycle in 7 Days to Die, you need to reach Tier 3: Motorcycle and Stack of Gas Cans in the Vehicles section of your Crafting Skills menu. It takes 44 Skill Points to unlock the Tier, doable by reading Vehicle Adventures magazines you earn as rewards or via looting. You begin the game with one skill point already in the Vehicles section.
Unlocking the Motorcycle is only the first step. You must also unlock the Workbench by reaching Tier 2 in the Workstations section under Skills. Thankfully, you'll only need to read nine Forge Ahead magazines for the Workbench. You may also need to unlock the Crucible if you lack the necessary Forged Steel resource. Forged Steel can be found while looting, via Trader rewards, in Supply Crates, or by disassembling objects like chandeliers or empty vending machines.
With both unlocked, you can start working toward crafting your first Motorcycle. It's a bit more complicated than the Bicycle, as you'll need to locate an engine and a battery.
Here's what you need to make a Motorcycle:
- Motorcycle Chassis
- Motorcycle Handlebars
- Engine
- Lead Car Battery
- Wheel (2)
Once you have all five parts in your inventory, you can open the Workbench menu and search for Motorcycle to find the blueprint. When you're ready, select "Craft" to build the vehicle.
For the Motorcycle Chassis, gather these materials:
- 37 Forged Steel
- 15 Mechanical Parts
- 15 Duct Tape
- 15 Leather
- 4 Mechanical Parts
You'll need these for the Motorcycle Handlebars:
- 15 Mechanical Parts
- 15 Duct Tape
- 1 Headlight
- 9 Electrical Parts
- 7 Forged Steel
Finally, you can either loot Wheels in the wild or craft them. To make one Wheel, you'll need:
- 3 Forged Iron
- 24 Scrap Polymers
- 2 Oil
- 15 Coal
- 1 Bottle of Acid
The Motorcycle is expensive to craft, but the materials you require can be looted from just about anywhere. For the Lead Car Battery and Engine, you can find them faster by dismantling lootable vehiclesMechanical Parts, Electrical Parts, and Headlights can also be ripped off vehicles using a Salvage Tool.
If you're low on materials, try using level points to unlock the Motorcycle Maniac tier of the Grease Monkey perk in your Intellect Skill list. Doing so will make Motorcycle parts 33% cheaper to craft.
How to Use the Motorcycle
As with other vehicles, to use the Motorcycle you must add it to your Hotbar like an item. Next, highlight it in the Hotbar, find some flat ground, and press the right-click button on your mouse (default for PC) to place it down. Press the E key on your keyboard to hop on your new ride.
The Motorcycle is not pink by default, but it should be.
Unlike the Bicycle, the Motorcycle burns Gas as opposed to Stamina. You need to collect gas from Rusty Barrels or by dismantling vehicles. You can also get some while looting or from a Trader. Oil Shale ore, found exclusively in the Desert biome, can be turned into fuel at a Chemistry Station if you have one unlocked.
The Motorcycle burns gas quickly, so keep an eye on the fuel meter at the bottom-right corner of your screen. You can hold the shift key to accelerate, but this increases fuel consumption.
You get 36 storage slots with the Motorcycle, making it a great choice for looting on the go.
The Motorcycle also has spikes welded to the front, letting you kill most humanoid enemies and animals by running into them. But not bears. Please don't drive into the bears. Be warned that killing something with the Motorcycle will damage it, so be sure to keep Repair Kits handy.
How to Customize and Repair the Motorcycle
With the Motorcycle on the ground, hover your reticle over it and hold the E key to open its menu. The menu offers options such as Storage, Repair, Lock, and more. Choosing "Take" places the Motorcycle in your inventory, but only if its storage is empty. Picking Repair will fix the Motorcycle to full health, but requires one Repair Kit.
You can customize your Motorcycle when it's in your inventory. Select the Motorcycle and choose the "Modify" option. The vehicle includes four Modifier Slots and one Cosmetic slot for colored dye.
