Health Alliance
The Northern Indigenous Health Alliance started in 2017 as a 5-year program funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada to reduce the behaviours of those at risk of contracting HIV, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted Blood Borne Infections in northern Alberta through a collaboration of High Level Native Friendship Centre Society, Sagitawa Friendship Society (Peace River & High Prairie), Grande Prairie Friendship Centre and Kimamow Atoskanow Foundation (Sandy Beach). In April 2022 the Northern Indigenous Health Alliance was renewed for another 5 years.
The program focuses on building relations within the community to encourage people to know their (STI & STBBI) status through regular screening processes, education, and cultural practises. Our culture is one of acceptance. Our project welcomes ALL people.

Information, education, presentations and awareness about HIV, Hepatitis C, and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and blood-borne Infections (STBBIs)

Monthly Know your Status (STI & STBBI) testing in partnership with Northreach Society

World AIDS Day ( DEC 1st) & Indigenous AIDS Awareness week events (Dec 1st to 6th)

One on One support for people living with HIV, Hepatitis C, and STIs

Free safer sex supplies

Preventative presentations/programs for Youth, Parents, and Service providers.

Cultural Programming for all age groups

Connection to traditional Indigenous ceremonies, medicines, knowledge keepers, and elders

A winter and summer youth & young adult camp that includes sessions on sexual health, mental health, culture, and life skills building in collaboration with our Alliance and community partners.
Traditional Culture
We work to connect clients with local Elders, knowledge keepers, and traditional medicines. Through GPFC and NIHA we work to facilitate our program from an Indigenous worldview and way of knowing. Our Staff is always learning and applying their knowledge to better enhance their services. We have teachings from the Blackfoot, Cree, Dene, and Metis of our community.
