Jazz by Toni Morrison
"I appreciated Morrison’s style and story-arc here in Jazz, but the narrative and chronology shifts were befuddling enough that reading felt like a chore. As a descriptive period piece, it’s beautifully written, but that (to me) can’t compensate for s" Read more of this review »

Jazz by Toni Morrison
"I found this book to be ill-defined, disjointed, and difficult to decipher. I couldn't make an essential connection with it, despite having the desire to do so. Reading it is making me feel inadequate, and therefore the experience is unpleasant. So i" Read more of this review »

"The perspectives switched without transition and it quickly got old, eroding my interest in the book. It seems exciting from the summary and then it is the dull backstory of characters who have failed to become interesting. There is action and excite" Read more of this review »
Jazz by Toni Morrison
"I really wanted to like this book. I just couldn’t. I didn’t care for how it was structured as well as the narrative of the characters jumping around different time frames. The prose, while at times lyrical, others times did not make any sense to me." Read more of this review »

Didn’t finish. I read the first book and as much as I wanted to get into this.. I just couldn’t. I felt like the characters changed. It wasn’t holding my attention. I had to save myself and put it down. Sadly. Moving on.

Kathryn Thanks for the friend invite, Debbie! I'm making an effort to NOT add to my TBR very much this year - I don't think it worked too well for Jan - last time I checked I had added over 20!

I love historical fiction. I was just remarking the other day that almost every book on my shelves is historical fiction or involves a different culture that I'm curious about. This is what I love in books, exploration, learning.
