I've been blogging and writing full-time since 2014. After the Countless Lies trilogy concluded in 2019 with End of Lies, I took a year off as the sinister activities and mysteries on offer didn’t fuel my conspirator’s imagination. Starting in the second quarter of 2020, Singapore shut down along with most of the rest of the world. The combination of Covid-19’s unclear origins and a hermit’s lifestyle rekindled the writing bug and Dark Cure was the result.

There’s only a single major character overlap between Countless Lies and Dark Cure, so existing readers will have a new set of personalities to sink their teeth into. The timing is July 2020 and the setting is the San Francisco Bay Area. Covid-19 mutates into an even deadlier form, an exp

As a new author, of course you must write. But at least two-thirds of the challenges aren't directly related to creativity and writing per se. There's an equally-important bundle of tasks that involve editing (3-levels), titling, cover design, burbs, layout and actual publication. These are either expensive or time-consuming. And then there's the issue of creating awareness of the book and the author, something I'm just coming to grips with.(less)

Worth reading, but the writing (while good) falls shy of the standard seen in his John Rain thrillers. Suspect it's headed for a 3-4 star rating.

Trading off with Charles McCarry's "The Secret Lovers," a Paul Christopher espionage novel from one of my favorite old school authors of that genre. The book came out in 1977, and back then Le Carre was the author everyone in the genre emulated. I really struggled to get through the first eight chapters until the plot began to take shape. If I didn't know McCarry could write and the book wasn't recommended by a friend, I would have quit. Just too much on setting and relationships which don't advance the plot. (Note: I write page-turners so I'm more sensitive than many other readers.)

Eldest kid just returned from the US for the summer with a few books in his bag, so my summer list includes:

"Left of Boom" by Douglas Laux is the story of a CIA officer in Afghanistan in the 00's through 2011 (bin Laden's death). Received good reviews and I enjoyed the author's interview on Reddit so I bought the book.

"Relentless Strike" by Sean Naylor is the "secret history of JSOC". I will be reading this more for background for my books (e.g. "Pack of Lies" is in editing while "End of Lies" is in initial development) than for enjoyment.

"On Writing" by Stephen King is a re-order of a book I lent to someone (!) and never got back. It's a wonderful mix of a memoir and a how-to-write manual.

"On the Water" by Guy de la Valdene is a fishing memoir. I'm a fishing nut, so this may be one I save until August when I head to the wilds of British Columbia for an extended fishing vacation.(less)

“Really? Nolan thought it over. What if he didn’t want to forgive the CIA back? What if he didn’t want absolution bestowed by an organization that murdered 235-plus passengers in return for secret access to a handful of offloaded people and cargo?”
Bradley West, Sea of Lies

“You are an embarrassment, Bob. A dead hero resurrected and tried for murder is a political nightmare in an election year. Come to China with me. If you do not like it, leave and reunite with your family. Just stay out of the US.”
“Is this you talking, or Payne?”
“It is common sense. America and you are finished.”
“I just want the lies to end,” Nolan said.
“Nonsense, it is the lies that keep us going.”
Bradley West, End of Lies

“Nolan asked, “What’s your real mission? We both know it doesn’t have anything to do with MH370.”

“My assignment now is to stay with you until you’re dead. If someone else doesn’t kill you, then I will,” Kaili said.”

Bradley West Sea of Lies is being printed in the US and will be available for sale on Amazon later in July. I have yet to solve UK physical distribution, but hope to do so by end August. 4Q 2016 will see the paperback for sale in Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka (at a minimum).

Depending on where you live, help is on the way in the next six weeks to five months.

Glad you liked the story outline and reviews to date, too.

KOMET Hi Brad,

Thank you for the kind words about my review of "TEARS OF AUTUMN." McCarry is one of the few American spy novelists whose work has really impressed me. The other would be Edward Wilson, who lives in the UK.

I've read several reviews of your novel on Amazon. I've also read the official summary of the novel, which has further stoked my curiosity about it. What I would like to know: Is 'SEA OF LIES' available in paperback? If not, do you have plans to have it published in paperback? I'm very much a paperback man and would love to check out the novel in that format. The premise you've set already makes me want to read 'SEA OF LIES.'

All the best.

Sincerely,

KOMET
