Jessica Day George likes chocolate, knitting, books, travel, movies, dragons, horses, dogs, and her family. These are all things to keep in mind if you ever meet her. For instance, you could bring her chocolate to make the meeting go more smoothly. You could also talk about how adorable her children are, even if you have never seen them. You could discuss dog breeds (she had a Maltese named Pippin, and grew up with a poodle mix and a Brittany Spaniel. Right now she has a Coton de Tulear named Sunny). You could talk about Norway, and how it's the Greatest Place On Earth, and Germany, The Second Greatest Place On Earth. You could ask her about yarn, and indicate a willingness to learn to knit your own socks, if you can't already do so.

And, we

“I've faced worse than a dressmaker who breaths fire.”
Jessica Day George

“Galen Werner, you may choose one of my daughters to be your bride, and when I die, you shall sit beside her as co-ruler of Westfallin."
"Your Majesty.... I - I don't know - "
Rose felt her knees shaking. Did he not love her after all?
"Psst, Galen?" Pansy tugged on his arm. Galen leaned down. "If Rose doesn't want you," the little girl whispered loudly, "you can marry me."
Galen laughed shakily. "Thanks, Pansy."
"Oh, Rose! Don't just stand there like a lump," Poppy said, poking her in the back. "If he's too embarrased, you should be the one to say something."
"Poppy!" Daisy looked scandalized. "It's not Rose's place to - "
Under cover of their squabbling, Rose took Galen's hand and moved closer to him. "Do you want to marry me?" she whispered in a much quieter tone than Pansy had used.
"Yes," he said.
"If neither of you is going to speak up," King Gregor said, "I shall simply have to decide it for myself!"
"Father," Rose protested, "that won't be necessary!"
"I choose Rose," Galen blurted out at the same time.
"There. Done. Easy." King Gregor clapped his hands.”
Jessica Day George, Princess of the Midnight Ball

“It looks as though your shop is doing well," Luka said gazing around, "Could you help me find a gift for a lady friend of mine?"

My heart plunged to my grenn satin slippers, and I had to stare down at Azarte for a minute, petting him hard. Naturally Luka had a "lady friend." She was probably nobly born: the daughter of a count or a duke. I imagined her having thick dark hair and clear skin, and was bitterly jealous. "Of course," I stammered after a time. "What would she like? A gown? A sash?" If she came in for a fitting, I decided to "accidentlly" poke her with every pin.”

“Claim whatever you want. Say you only want a happy family or a successful career or a big house. I say: no, that's not what you want. You'll settle for those things, but you really want a monkey that does your evil bidding. Pullman is a genius just for this.”
Maureen Johnson, World of the Golden Compass: The Otherworldly Ride Continues [Paperback]

“It struck me as pretty ridiculous to be called Mr. Darcy and to stand on your own looking snooty at a party. It's like being called Heathcliff and insisting on spending the entire evening in the garden, shouting "Cathy" and banging your head against a tree.”

“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.”

Cassandra Jessica:
Since I know you're into knitting (and dragons, of course!) thought I'd just point you to a super awesome knitting book that my mom and I own: KNITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD by Nicky Epstein. It has a pattern for an amigurumi dragon (the reason we bought it in the first place) that I'm working on--So cool! There's also a ton of super cute clothing items in there.

message 15: by Kelsey

Kelsey Ellis Jessica, I just had a few thoughts that I'd like to share...
1. Today I went to my library to look at the books I was on hold for... the book next to mine was your new Princess of Glass. It made me sad that I couldn't read it until after the 65th person reads it (It's on hold and I'm 66th in line...) until I get to magically take it off that shelf and take it home with me. Oh well, a few more weeks!
2. I have a maltese mix, and her name is Sadie. I think Pippin and her would be friends.
3. My last dog was a Brittany Spaniel- she lived only a 1 1/2 years, due to cancer. :( But, I wanted to let you know that I love that breed, and they make a wonderful pet :)

message 14: by Kellee

Kellee Moye I cannot wait until Princess of Glass comes out!! I wish there was a way to read it now! :)
