Trish That is cool and such a weird coincidence because I JUST ordered volume 1 and volume 2 of The Essential Peter S. Beagle because they look gorgeous and there must be a reason why he's such a legend in the genre (I only know The Last Unicorn so far).

karen i own like 6 different editions of the last unicorn, it's a real problem. he's great, all hail the beagle man!

Trish *lol* I have two versions plus a graphic novel.

karen haahah oh yeah, i forgot about the graphic novel. what can i say, i loves me some unicorns!

Trish Yep. And too few are well done. It's like with dragons.

karen he's officially great at both! i hope he sells a million copies - that man has had a shitty time of it the past few years.

Trish Do you know why? I've been talking to my buddy-reader and we both agreed that we don't know why so many greats of the genre adore him because we only ever heard of ONE story of his.

karen i don't know why his other stuff isn't as widely read, but he's had a ton of legal battles trying to get the rights to his stuff back in his own hands.

he had a similar situation to leonard cohen - trusted a manager and got screwed over. this is a pretty complete summary

OH I GUESS WE CAN'T PUT LINKS IN COMMENTS ANYMORE?

fans against fraud has details. google it yerself, i guess. connor cochran/peter s beagle

i met them both during that tour and wish i could go back and punch connor in the nose

Trish Yeah, you can only post links if you put spaces in there - it's soooo annoying. Almost as annoying as artists getting screwed over.
...
Found it. What a story!

karen i've been away from this place too long, i guess! i tried putting a space and it still didn't work. what's the trick? i'm a goodreads noob suddenly!

Trish I never did find out which spaces work, I usuallly put in several and eventually I get it right. *lol* Stupidly, the links still work in reviews, just not in comments. Supposedly for our protection - the more I hear that lameass excute, the more aggressive I get. ;P

karen it's very very safe here now. more than half of my reviews are hidden now because of "spoilers," which just means - i talked about the book. even though i'm so careful to NOT spoil anything. i'm resentful that i spent so much time reviewing and now they've been tucked away by someone's decision for none to see. that's not why i stopped reviewing, but it's something that's making me reluctant to return to it.

[Name Redacted] We miss you.

karen i miss you, too. i really do.

Yeah, same here. I use spoiler tags, the rest is never more than a blurb would give away. I mean, we ARE supposed to TALK ABOUT THE BOOKS. *sighs*

Anna Kay So jealous! I've been excited for this one because The Last Unicorn is an all-time favorite. And this looks like so much fun!

the wait is nearly over!! TUESDAY!

"Yeah, same here. I use spoiler tags, the rest is never more than a blurb would give away. I mean, we ARE supposed to TALK ABOUT THE BOOKS. *sighs"

it is a very disappointing trend.

Trish Yep, it seems that people care more about being seen as readers than about actually talking about books and their topics or anything related. That plus what I see/hear about the fight American libraries have to fight is discouraging for sure (meanwhile, we never HAD your library system so a disgruntled part of me says "suck it up, buttercups" *lol*).

It varies drastically by where you live. Library systems in the US are funded by the county (Gemeinden might be closest equivalent for you?) so it depends how much money there is and what they vote to do with it. Some places don't have public libraries or don't have a new book budget. And as you see in many states they're trying to restrict access.

Trish See? It might have been better not to get used to it in the first place only to be berieved. ;P

Mir I used to live in a good library system but not right now...hence mostly reading ebooks.
