Shelley's Book Nook I felt the same way! So many people gave this five stars and I just don't get it. I persevered and gave it 2.5

message 2: by JanB (new) - added it

JanB This was a dnf for me too Lindsay!

Donna Finally, someone who doesn’t get the 5 star reviews too. I gave it a 3 rounded up from 2.5 and honestly struggled to finish the book.

Lindsay L Shelley, Jan and Donna — we sit at the outlier table together!!! 🥂

Southern Lady Reads (Crazy Busy-Will Catch Up!) Awww sorry you had to DNF but glad you're able to move on to the next great read!

Jayme Clearly not a book for every reader! Hope you love your next! ❤️

Canadian Jen Oh no! Oh well....onwards, Lindsay!

message 8: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Thanks Southern Lady, Jayme and Jen!

message 9: by Chiara (new)

Chiara Stephens I'm almost halfway through and pretty bored. It doesn't feel like the 80s either, it has a weirdly old-fashioned vibe.

message 10: by Julie (new) - rated it 1 star

Julie Wilpon I could only give it one star. Very disappointed. I don’t think I would read another novel by her……

message 11: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Chiara - sorry to hear it is boring for you. I had the same issue but didn’t get as far as you. I agree that it didn’t feel like the 80’s. Hope it got better for you in the second half?

message 12: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Julie - too bad this didn’t work out better for you either. Having a much loved book feel like a disappointment always makes it even worse because expectations were so high. Hope you love whatever you pick up next!

message 13: by Jodi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jodi So sorry that you didn't connect with this, Lindsay! I loved it enormously, but I certainly understand we don't all see things the same way. I wonder if you picked it up again if things might be different? As I'm sure you know, our mood can tremendously affect how enjoyment. Anyway, better luck with your next read!!
(P.S. Sending hugs for Charlie!)🐕🐾💚

Thanks so much Jodi! I know I'm the outlier in my thoughts on this. And maybe I should give it another try sometime in the future. I am so glad you loved it!!! Charlie says thanks!!! xo

message 15: by Deanna (new) - added it

Deanna Sorry it didn't work out. I hope you love your next read :)

message 16: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Thanks Dee!

Nancy Brame I wish I had quit. My reason was that I did not like any of the characters.

message 18: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Sorry this didn’t work out better for you Nancy. Hope you pick up something you love next!

Cheri This one started out slowly for me, and I wasn't sure this would work for me at the start, but the more time I invested in reading it, the more loved it! Sorry it didn't work as well for you Lindsay, but I completely understand - we can't love them all!

message 20: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Thanks Cheri! Perhaps I’ll give it another go later on and see if I connect more

message 21: by Kellie (new)

Kellie O'Connor Sometimes it's for the best to DNF a book that you can't get into, Lindsay! I hope that your next book is a 5 shiny stars rating for you!! On to better books!! Lots to choose from!! 😁📚📚

message 22: by Jenny (new) - added it

Jenny I received this one as a giveaway and it's the only reason it's on my tbr pile. I'll give it a try, but we'll see if I finish it.

message 23: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Thanks Kellie!

Hope you love it Jenny!

message 24: by Marialyce (new) - added it

Marialyce This was a dnf for me as well.

message 25: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Marialyce - we sit at the outlier table together! 🥂

Marcia Totally agree. What is the hoopla about??!!

message 27: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Marcia - welcome to the outlier table! 😉😆

Terence M - [Quot libros, quam breve tempus!] Lindsay, thanks for saving me from starting this one - onto the return shelf it goes!

Marcia Lindsay, I LIVE on the outlier table!!! 😁🤣

message 30: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Terence - I’m definitely the outlier so you may love it like so many others have.

message 31: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Marcia — too funny! I sit there often too. At least we have each other for company 😁

Marcia Yaaay!

message 33: by Dee (new) - added it

Dee I’m joining you. I can’t take any more. Repetitive. Wooden. I grit my teeth every time the author mentions the bus trips between Northwestern (Evanston) and Pilsen (family home) as though it’s just a few blocks, a few minutes. The trip, at best, is 1 - 2 hours. The sisters couldn’t come flitting in to Julia on lunch break, just to “kiss Baby Alice”.
At 1/4 of the way through, I have to quit this book. The storytelling seems to be getting worse. I am sorry to miss out on a family story, full of what could be interesting, lively people.

message 34: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Dee - I’m sorry to hear this didn’t work better for you either. Hope you love whatever you pick up next!

Jennifer (Jaye) (My vision is on the right track yay!!! catching up slowly) Shame it didn’t work for you Lindsay, hope your next read is amazing 💕💕💕

message 36: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Thank you Jennifer!!!

message 37: by Melissa (new) - added it

Melissa Crytzer Fry Oh, how I understand. Though I DID push through, only through the help of listening to the rest of it on audio. And even then, it was tough going for me.

message 38: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Sorry to hear it didn’t work out better for you either Melissa. Glad I gave up when I did.

Nevin I wanted to DNF it several times myself. I completely agree with you! 💕

message 40: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Nevin, sorry this didn’t work out any better for you

message 41: by Kelli (new) - added it

Kelli Same! I DNF'd at 47% and I'm truly jealous of your earlier departure.

message 42: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Oh no Kelli! Sorry to hear you pushed that far and still didn’t connect. On to better books!!!

Ellen Disappointing!

message 44: by Lindsay L (new) - added it

Lindsay L Ellen - it was disappointing for me 😕
