I’ve felt this way about the two other books of hers that I’ve read. I’ve given up on this author.

sorry amelia, i will not be reading it but if it makes you feel better it’s best i don’t read it at all than i do read it and give 2 stars
okay because I'm like only on Chapter 7 or something and I'm bored. Roman is already interested in Iris and they've barely interacted. And something about the way the author is having Roman describe Iris as this really amazing writer who gets you emotionally interested in her topics but doesn't just.....show us a clip of an article Iris has written gives me very ... I wrote a character who is a better writer than me so I'll just describe her as amazing because I can't show it. She then proceeds to give stories and snippits from tomes about the warring Gods so like....this just feels lazy. I'm not expecting it to get better.
i’m reading this book on an epub. It started out well, i liked the scene where forest leaves right away and cuts back to the present and builds on it. but never mind that. One of the first things i noticed right away was the writing. It was unnatural, and i could feel it. also the part where her mother dies? i feel like we moved on too quickly from that. her death was expected but it was sudden but not in like a good way. The romance also wasn’t really developed and i’m already halfway through the story, but it is rivals to lovers so yeah… nothing much i can say. I also like the part when she meets attie and marisol and there’s this thing about the hounds. It keeps you on your toes, but then winnow and roman come out unscathed. THEN they both leave right away. The pacing of the story is too fast. right now on part three: the words in-between 29. the sycamore platoon. i’ve decided to dnf this book. sorry if what i want to convey comes out a bit weird here since english isn’t my first language and i’ve only learned it from consuming media. also someone spoil me with what happened with forest, is he alive? orr?
i just read a few more reviews of this book on the rest. i was right to dnf it. it seems like from what they said the plot points set up in the beginning, author completely goes ~blindd, also said that she forgets about forest except when she casually remembers him for some reason or what. i guess he’s a live since he shows up at he end or something? idk
ain’t no enemies to lovers, no fantasy aspects and you can’t convince me these people actually fell in love through a typewriter smfh
😭 I am upset lol I definitely had different expectations for sure but yes the magical typewriter was more interesting than what was actually going on🤣
Ugh everyone hyped up this book so I was so excited but it was so boring :( I felt no connection to the characters
This is how I felt as well, a lot of plot potential, with so much underdevelopment! I am wondering if we will get more of that development in the second book, but if that is the case then two books could probably could have been one.
This review is basically everything I was thinking whilst reading it. I wanted more God’s backstory. The war was just not what I was expecting, nor wanted to read about. Disappointed after the rave reviews for this!
Just finished, what a chore to get through the last 3rd of that book. It was so great, then a nosedive into straight garbage.
I honestly agree with your review! I really wanted to love this book but as you said, so much potential and so little of it being used…
Yeah, I’m about 40% through and I really am not invested at all. It doesn’t help that this is not the style of book that I love, but I just don’t feel any connection to any of the characters and the world that the writer has built, seems like a hodgepodge of other stories that were popular. I can’t find an interesting element here
There can be a enemies to lovers book and there can still have an interesting plot !! The war could have been so much more interesting but every time they where at the action they where focusing on each other and that’s fine but there was so much potential lost and it was a tiny bit cringy in my personal opinion and if I offended anyone in this post apologies 😅
Thank god someone feels the same way! I was genuinely interested in this story but towards the end it just felt…really weird. Like a totally different story almost.
Thank you. I feel such relief that I’m not the only one. The way this was just a pitiful historical romance, and somehow I also didn’t care about the romance was astounding.
Same thoughts!!! It just felt like a checkbox for this, this, this and OH war okay we’re good. 🤦🏾♀️ I gave it 3 but I was ready to move on. It could’ve been amazing!
I was SO excited to read this given the reviews. But what?!! Excuse me?! Glossed over big moments, barely any descriptions for the towns, cities and war zone. I couldn’t get a clear picture in my mind at all. And where is all the magic?? Such a frustrating read!
I needed more background and had to go back to how there letters to each other magically disappeared to one another A WARDROBE?? I pictured the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
I didn’t get a good backstory on the “gods battle or why really . Then all of a sudden music is banned and I’m like what did I miss ????

Totally! The parts around the war between the gods and the humans were interesting and as you said it has so much potential but turned into a sloppy and boring teenage romance.
