I so badly wanted to like this and can appreciate what the author was going for, but I just couldn’t buy in. I never really grew to like the characters and I never felt a strong sense of setting, either. The occasional well-written scene as well as the book’s non-offensive characters earn this 2 stars. If I wanted to read Rebecca, I’d read Rebecca.

Thank you. It is a rip off of Rebecca and the historical bits were so poorly done or irrelevant to the story.
