I have a hard time with her books too. Wasn't a fan of this one...

Oh finally someone else who can't get into her books... I found this one to be predictable and problematic ...

Yeah, everyone seems to think that it's a masterpiece but honestly, it was kind of mediocre/not that great...

This was my first book I've ever read by Holly Black. And I loved it, so hopefully you'll enjoy it more then other ones seeing as the world building and charters are just over all amazing.

I love the Curse Workers trilogy by Holly Black, which doesn’t involve faeries.

I can't seem to get into her books either. I read this, thinking it would be worth all the hype--unfortunately, it wasn't. I've just given up on her books now.

This is the first book by Holly Black I gave 4 stars to. I didn't like her early books, The Curse Workers trilogy was good (3 stars for me), I was surprised myself to like The Cruel Prince so much. I hope this one will work for you, otherwise... well, we all have authors where it just doesn't work for us.

I felt the exact same way, but this book is CAPTIVATING. I loved it so so much!

Have you read The Darkest Part of the Forest? Her books are hit and miss for me. Tithe was a complete disappointment and I almost gave up on Holly Black after that.

This was my first Holly Black book so it is hard for me to compare. It was decent, but it really set the stage for the masterpiece, The Wicked King.

No, but I will check it out.

I enjoyed this series but it was like reading a book on fast forward-- there just wasn't enough! And not just cause I really liked the story and wanted more of it but things just happen so quickly and I need more depth and build up.

True, everything happened so fast, I couldn't process it. I still don't know much about Jude as a character.

Mmmm… this was just OK for me. I did give it 4 stars mainly for making it interesting towards the end. Not enough Cardan for this to be titled "The Cruel Prince". Kinda misleading. I expected to be wowed but that didn't happen until like I said towards the end.

For some reason I don't feel like reading her books, they aren't that great - my opinion...but I thought this one would be different since there was alot of hype and everyone said it was a good book and series so I'm going to try reading it in a few days...hope im not as disappointed as I was when I started reading it - was too boring and not interesting enough for me...

Mary, if you haven't liked her in the past, you probably won't like this one either. Way over hyped.

I was looking for a comment about this! I'm only a few chapters into the sequel and she's already done something which has turned my dislike into actual hatred

Totally agree. For me, Jude in the first book was one of those MCs that are unbearably annoying, but the hook of the story was interesting enough to continue reading.
