really liked it
bookshelves: 2017-shelf, reality-bending, sci-fi

Ah, I think this is one of Sanderson's better novellas, easily, and not just because it's housed in a police drama genre. :)

The simple concept of a whole world that can be replayed like a virtual reality is very much a Cosmere concept, but what he does with it, replaying the reality of the last day in order to hunt down a serial murderer, is really cool.

I can totally see myself getting into this as a part of a longer series, but the actions and events of this one is quite satisfying. I'm not complaining at all.

Simple story, interesting reveals, and best of all, a very clear voice and classic cop characters... with a superb twist. :)

(Even if it's kinda predictable, it's still a very well-written and satisfying story.)

Siona St Mark This story actually isn't set in the Cosmere!

Bradley Isn't it? But it fits! Especially with that one that had many multiverses that flit between fantasy realms and hard sf and back again. This is a virtual universe that seems to do the exact same thing! Alas! lol

Siona St Mark Yeah, normally it'll say specifically in the front of the book. To my knowledge, the only Cosmere books published are the short stories in Arcanum Unbounded (sp?), Mistborn, Stromlight Archives, Warbreaker, Elantris, and White Sand. The Alcatraz and Rithmatist books are not apart of the cosmere, and neither are the Reckoners books. I consider myself a bit of a Sander-storian if you will lol

Bradley I'm not saying you're wrong! Far from it. But coming from a story standpoint, I see no problems whatsoever with dragging the Rithmatist into the greater Cosmere. Why not?

Granted, I think the Reckoners books don't feel like much of a match and neither do the Alcatraz books, but anything that has strict and glorious world-building and magic rules OUGHT to be let in that door. :)

Just my opinion. :)

Yeah, I think the only real reason they aren't is because they wouldn't tie in to the over-all plot, you know? And the Rithmatist was originally going to be apart of the Cosmere, but Brandon took it out for whatever reason. Any story set on a version of Earth is definitely not in the Cosmere though, Brandon has said that.

Bradley *wail*

Well, all right. No Cosmere. I still love it when authors tie all their works together. :) To whatever degree. :)
