had no idea what to expect with this booif you haven’t heard of Deuxmoi yet, you living under a rock?!?! i think she’s everybody’s IG guilty pleasure…
had no idea what to expect with this book but i loved it. it was the first bingeworthy book i’ve read in a few months—I devoured it in 24ish hours (two sittings) and couldn’t stop thinking of it when i wasn’t reading. it’s a work of fiction, but it’s based on some true events and how Deux started the account. i think that was my fave part—trying to think what was real and what was exaggerated. it’s all so believable (except for a detail of the main twist, that made me lol...more
3ish stars for me! this was a cute, quick and unique second-chance romance that i enjoyed but didn’t love.
i saw the plot twist coming but still had m3ish stars for me! this was a cute, quick and unique second-chance romance that i enjoyed but didn’t love.
i saw the plot twist coming but still had my heart racing—it just ended too abruptly. i needed a chapter epilogue like 3-5 years later to wrap it up a bit better. i also feel a little icky when something like this was used as a plot twist… trying to keep this spoiler free!
this was on the emo side as far as romance novels and it was also an adult romance. appreciated both of those things! the female MC was really beautiful and her representation was awesome to see.
heard AMAZING things about it so maybe it was a biiiiit overhyped but still a good quick read that i recommend....more

Kubica is teetering between 3.5-4 stars so rounding up here! thank you Park Row for the gifted copy of this highly anticipated 2023 thriller release.
Kubica is the queen of domestic thrillers and i was so excited to pick this one up when it arrived. it’s set in Chicagoland which was so fun to read about given that’s where i grew up! it starts with a bang and is extremely bingeworthy. i finished it in two sittings and was super interested to figure out the twist.
one twist really shocked me, but the major twist let me down slightly. while it started off SUPER strong, i felt that the middle fizzed out and needed a side conflict to keep me more invested as it was getting a bit repetitive. what i did enjoy is how every character was so untrustworthy—i couldnt figure out who was telling the truth, who to believe and whose side i was on.
i’m a HUGE fan of Kubica’s and have read all her work, so unfortunately i compare new books to old work as i go and this wasn’t as good as some of her past books for me (namely THE GOOD GIRL, LOCAL WOMAN MISSING, THE OTHER MRS.). however, i will read ANYTHING she writes and she’s still a super talented author and one of my faves ...more

i’m tough on thrillers so i hope my review below helps shed light on why it wasn’t 5 star for me, but make no mistake it’s one of the best thrillers i’ve read this year for sure :) i gave it 4 on GR, but it’s much better than some thrillers i’ve rated 4 so perhaps it’s more of a 4.5 vibe ...more
toying between 3-3.5 stars for this upcoming release. here are my quick thoughts…

pro’s: - the cover - the setting - plot was very creative - very on point with the cult theme this year - first half of the book was great. pacing was good, background and context was good, plot was good. i was invested - very quick book; i read it in 2 sittings. would be a good beach/pool binge!
con’s: - the back half. the execution fell so flat for me :( - the side plots were halfway flushed out. the book was only 300 pages and for once, i feel like an addition 20-30 pages on more context of her history growing up, her fiancé’s family, the resolution at the end (keeping spoiler free) would have really helped out - speaking of resolutions… there were HUGE plots that were legit over in 2-3 paragraphs? like maaaajor conflict resolution that again, needed more detail and more context. hard to say more without spoiling ...more
this was sadly a big miss for me :( absolutely loved the A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER series and was hoping for another addictive thriller but this tothis was sadly a big miss for me :( absolutely loved the A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER series and was hoping for another addictive thriller but this took me nearly 10 days to finish.
i did like the ending and was surprised by the twists, however by the time we got to them i was sooooo checked out and over it that i probably said “nice” and moved on. it was far too long—nearly 400 pages, which NO thriller should ever be—and the middle was really lacking in content. it was also a locked door thriller trope which is by far my least favorite, so that was working against me from the start.
it did have a few shocking elements and the plot was creative and entertaining for me to keep going vs. DNF, but it just didn’t work like AGGGTM did :( there was also a majorrrr cringe character that screamed toxic male masculinity and it was super annoying.
i’m seeing a lot of reviews saying positive things though, so if you think these things i mentioned won’t bother you, then pick it up and check it out for yourself!!
thank you Delcaorte and Get Underlined for the gifted early finished copy in exchange for my honest review! ...more
this is for lovers of true crime, the JonBenet Ramsey case, quick thrillers and multiple red herrings.
however this story has been done plenty of timethis is for lovers of true crime, the JonBenet Ramsey case, quick thrillers and multiple red herrings.
however this story has been done plenty of times, which caused me to grow a bit bored and want more originality. on the one side i was fascinated because i also followed the JBR case to closely IRL… but on the other side, i was bored because i’ve heard all that before. double edged sword!

3-3.5 stars! this premise hooked me in and i was expecting more DEFENDING JACOB vibes but it went a totally different way. not a bad thing, just that 3-3.5 stars! this premise hooked me in and i was expecting more DEFENDING JACOB vibes but it went a totally different way. not a bad thing, just that + the slow burn/length messed with my expectations. if you go in knowing it’s a slow burn and it’s more of a mystery/family drama (think THE LAST THING HE TOLD ME or THE LOVE OF MY LIFE), then you’ll enjoy it!
it did have a few shocking twists along the way, but took nearly 200+ pages to get there. i enjoyed the time travel aspect and the story was definitely unique which is hard to find in thrillers these days!
i recommend sitting down to read this in few, big chunks vs overtime—i did the latter and i forgot a few things. i finished the last 1/2 on a flight and breezed through it and enjoyed the binge that way.
thanks to William Morrow for the gifted copy. this was a Reese Book Club pick for august....more
