Zackman asked Charles de Lint:

You are astoundingly prolific, and your work is always both fresh and well written. Do you find it a challenge to maintain creativity and to keep up the quality of the work at the same time?

Charles de Lint You know how you never get tired of finding a good book to read? That's what writing's like for me. I write books I'd like to read but haven't been written yet so I have to do it myself. I don't work from outlines so, juts like a reader, I'm pushing forward to find out what happens next. Mind you, that's a first draft. After that it's the same work as it is for everybody: editing, rewriting, polishing, which often takes longer than that first draft.
