Rate this book
Call it fate, call it luck, but when a powerful wolf shifter walks into my life, everything changes.

Bel

I’ve made some stupid decisions in my life, and one in particular keeps coming back to haunt me. When I keep running into a handsome stranger, I know I should push him away, if only to keep him safe from my mess, keep him safe from me. But something inside of me—my heart, my magic, or my soul—keeps pushing me toward him, offering to make all my secret dreams come true. And I don’t know how to stay away.

Remi

When I travel across the world to open a new business—and get away from my overbearing family—the last thing I ever expect is to find the most beautiful and alluring fae Ive ever met. I’m drawn to him, and I’m pretty sure if he lets his guard down, he’ll admit he’s drawn to me too. All I want to do is pull Bel into my arms and protect him from whatever he’s hiding. But he’s skittish and suspicious, and I just want to prove to him that he can trust me.

Fate, and a bit of luck, brought us together, and I’m not going to let it or anything else tear us apart.

Michele is married to an awesome guy that puts up with her and all the burnt dinners she makes—hey, sometimes characters are a bit distracting, and who doesn’t plot when they’re supposed to be cooking? They live together in Baltimore, Maryland with two little monsters, a three-legged princess, a four-legged goofball, and a cutie with giant ears (aka their two kids, their two cats, and their dog). She hopes to rescue another cat soon, and if her hubby wouldn’t kill her, she’d get more than one… and maybe a few more dogs as well.

She loves creating worlds filled with lots of love, chosen family, and of course, magic, but she also likes making the characters fight for that happy ending. She hopes to one day write all the stories in her head—even if there are too many to count!

This was really cute!

"The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae" is a standalone story in this multi-author series packed with magic, fae and lucky coins; I'm looking forward to so many of these!
This one's blurb in particular had me so damn excited: I was sure I was going to love it... but yeah, although I did enjoy it (especially the first half!), I wasn't totally invested it, unfortunately.

First things first, the good.
"The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae" is a light-hearted, magical romance between a protective, sweet as sugar werewolf and a skittish, prickly fae with a hidden marshmellow heart: I loved seeing them get their much-awaited HEA. Their were cute and soft together.
I loved the side characters to bits, and I'm already looking forward to reading more books by this author. I haven't read the previous novels that are part of this same universe: for those who like me have started here, don't worry, you won't be lost. The world-building is fairly easy to grasp, and although there are a lot of side-characters that appear that have previously been featured in this universe, they have minor roles, and again, everything is easy to follow. I appreciated this quite a lot actually! I was worried I'd be lost, but Michele Notaro managed to make this novel feel like a true standalone: the character cameos aren't overwhelming, and Remi and Bel's romance remains the focus of the story from start to finish.
The world-building is intriguing; and I really liked the plot/premise in general too. No spoilers, but it had that Ella Enchanted feel to it y'know? *nods in approval*

Unfortunately, like I said, I wasn't totally sold on this book. There were a few plot/world-building holes that left me feeling a bit confused, like, the reason why the fae are treated so horribly and why nobody has done anything to remedy that; I'm hoping it will be addressed in the second book though.
I also kiiiinda got bored in the second half; I started skimming and that is never a good idea *sighs* I don't know; light-hearted books are fine, but I think I need them to have a smidge more substance and grit?
Also, I liked the two MCs, I did; but after a bit, they felt a smidge too easy-going, too perfect; they weren't enough to keep my interest. I like my MCs flawed and messy, and while Bel's definitely more my kind of protagonist (skittish, afraid, vulnerable, unsure? GIMME), Remi was just too perfect and too sweet for my liking.

Other than that, I did enjoy this, and I'm absolutely looking forward to reading about certain someones HEAs in the sequels.
Any reader who's looking for something sweet (with a smidge of plot related angst!), heartwarming and light-hearted will definitely enjoy this. And I'm sure any die-hard Michele Notaro fan will love it too!
I, for one, am so excited to read a few more of the stories in this series; I'm especially looking forward to Tavia Lark and Eliot Grayson's installments.

Thanks GRR for the ARC. This is my honest review.

DNF @ 80%

I tried realllyyy hard to finish this but I just couldn’t. There’s so many characters introduced in the first two chapters that my head was spinning and all the characters felt so immature. I tried to push myself since I wasn’t sure if it was just the slump but I eventually found myself putting the book down and looking at doing other things and that’s when I called it.

4,5 stars for this really cute fae story.
I loved Bel and Remi and how they gave each other what they needed.

Remi especially is very patient and seems sometimes to be too good to be true.

But my favourite was Bel. He is a sweetheart.

This story has a bit of mystery and action in it, but it is not the main focus. That stays on our couple, which I really liked and fit this book perfectly.

The Ellwoods made an appearance, which was nice ... and maybe, I should read all the books as I stopped for Thays book

I loved the supporting characters, and I am really looking forward to the next two books.

In all, a lovely read, which I will re-read in the future

I loved this. Loved loved loved seeing the Ellwoods again, loved Bel and the other setups, and I liked the coin too. Sometimes with these things they can seem kinda gimmicky but Michelle did an excellent job setting this up. I thought this was a quick read but it is over 300 pages. It feels quick though, it's so easy to sink back into the world. I can't wait for Tan's book and I can't wait for the next one in this series!

I was a little worried at first to read this.

Michele Notaro is a new-to-me author and she has so many inter-connected series already released. I already experienced reading a multi-author series, where the author apparently used the previously released series to be the setting for the book, and I ended up being lost in the universe and the so-many cameos/characters introduced.

Well, apparently The Wolf's [Un]Lucky Fae is also related to Notaro's The Brinnswick/The Ellwood Chronicles series. Remington Ellwood, the wolf shifter, is the adopted son of Ailin and Sebastian from The Ellwood Chronicles and he comes from Brinnswick. He moved to Gauhala to set up his own security firm. Then he stumbled into a coin seemingly dropped by a fae with vibrant purple hair, Belryn Bixidor, and then their story went...

The plus point is this story still works well as stand-alone. Yes, there were characters from that series but it didn't bother me much. The author gave enough background for those characters so I didn't get lost. The world built was easy to understand.

BUT, the story felt too sweet for my mood at the moment 😅. Remi is WAY too perfect - he's handsome, he's rich, he's kind and understanding, his family is perfect. I mean, come on, give me some weaknesess!! And I got a little bored in the second half because I felt that it wasn't enough conflicts to make it engaging, although Bel did have threat to his life being obliged to a very bad fae.

I still look forward to other titles in this series though.

Not My Favourite

This is my first full story by this author and to be honest I struggled a bit. It seemed to take a long time for the story to get off the ground and it wasn't until around 80% that I truly became interested. The book is set in a fictional land that I still know nothing about. Why are the fae hated? Why has the king not left the tower in 25 years? It just all feels like a set up for future books which I probably won't read. I didn't feel any real connection with either of the MCs or any of the other characters. Even the coin was pretty absent for most of the book.

4.5 ⭐

The Wolf’s (Un)Lucky Fae is a standalone book in the multi-author series Fortune Favors the Fae, set in the same universe as Michele Notaro’s Ellwood Chronicles and Brinnswick Chronicles. While it's not necessary to read these previous series, it is recommended due to the numerous recurring characters.

The story follows Remi, the youngest child of Allin and Seb from the previous series. Remi, a wolf shifter, runs a security business in Brinnswick and is expanding his operations to Gauhala with the help of his friends: Isa (a fae), Tan (a witch), and Savelle (a kelpie).

On the first day in Gauhala, a mysterious coin leads Remi to meet Bel, his viramore. Bel is a fae in a country where fae are seen as evil and discriminated against. Despite being a talented musician, Bel is forced to live on the streets, making a living by busking and/or pickpocketing. Their encounter sparks a relationship that, despite Bel's cautious approach and troubled past, slowly develops as they date. However, Bel’s troubles continually disrupt their lives, but Remi remains determined to overcome the challenges posed by Bel’s history.

Both Remi and Bel are fiercely protective of their families and loved ones. Remi is openly kind, while Bel, understandably untrusting, hides his big heart behind a prickly demeanour. With this Notaro skillfully portrays how their different backgrounds and life experiences have shaped them. So the gradual development of their romance, focusing on building trust and emotional connection, is needed and natural. It is also particularly well-done and perfect for them.

As always, Michele Notaro’s writing style shines through with great world-building, engaging characters and a mix of serious, sometimes painful subjects, along with humour and heartfelt moments. The book is a nice blend of romance, action, humour, and emotional depth, making it a charming read.

I am very excited that we will be getting two more stories in this universe—one for Remi’s best friend, Tan, and another for Bel’s cousin, Keryth.
I am eagerly looking forward to the next book!

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my unbiased review.

I love a multi author series so much. And this one is packed with some of my favorite authors. This one takes us back to the Ellwood/Brinswick world of Michelle Notaro. It isn’t necessary to have read those books to enjoy this one. It would just give you background on Remi’s very powerful family. (I love Seb and Ailin.) This story was so good! Poor Bel. Of course Remi is too perfect for words. He is an Ellwood!

I wish I could do half star ratings to have it at 4.5 stars. I loved it. I more than loved it. I'm not sure it's quite a 5 star for me, but 5 stars are rare for me at all. Still pretty close.
It's sweet that we get a new story on the Brinnswick/Elwood universe, this time with Remi as the main character. And we get a new place! And a whole new cast of characters, with occasional cameos of those we know and love. Remi is a sweetheart, Kel is a delight, the two make a lovely couple. And the adventure was jn point. I started the book and had a hard time setting it down.
And the hints of more books in the future! So exciting!

highly recommended and entertaining

Rating: 4.5 🌈

Well this is an absolutely splendid addition to the Fortune Favors the Fae series. I loved how Michele Notaro adapted her Brinnswick universe into this series, by means of that mischievous wayward fae coin.

While its personality doesn’t really come into play as it has in a prior tale, that coin is still the means through which unlucky fae Belryn Bizidor meets wolf shifter Remington “ Remi” Ellwood, newly arrived with some of the members of his family to start a family security company on Gauhala.

Its meet cute, and mate recognition, sort of . Mostly both feel a very special unusual attraction, which I find interesting because it takes time for this relationship to develop. For Bel, his situation is fragile. His city views Fae as the lowest form of life, discrimination is common, he’s homeless, and trying to protect what’s left of his family.

The more the reader learns about his character and how perilous the situation he’s in, the more we connect with him. Bel is the type of character Notaro crafts so well. Layered, emotional, and warmhearted. And desperate. In this case, to save his family.

Remi the wolf shifter who finds his viramore and is determined to hold him, no matter what, is kind and loving. Just by his own history he’s not as vividly drawn as a wounded Bel. It’s just the nature of the difference in the drama between them. They do have a gentle charm and connection that works well here.

Notaro has created a number of fascinating characters that support the main couple, ones that almost prove more compelling. Whether it’s Tan, Remi’s friend and business partner who’s in a frenemies attraction thing with the Dragon King, or Bel’s cousin Ker and the vampire bookstore owner, Anton Orsova, those are stories that beg to be told and look to come in a new sequel series soon to be released.

I hope we see these characters as well.

The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae (a Fortune Favors the Fae story) by Michele Notaro is a highly entertaining read and one I’m happy to recommend!

The Wolf’s (Un)Lucky Fae is part of the standalone multi-author series, Fortune Favors the Fae.
It is also set in the same world as Michele Notaro’s Ellwood Chronicles series and Brinnswick Chronicles series; while not essential I would highly recommend reading at least one of these series before.

If you do know these series, then this book is about Remi, Allin and Seb’s youngest child and he is the last sibling to find his viramore! At first I was a bit disappointed to hear this as I thought that meant no more Brinnswick stories, but more on that later.

Remi is a wolf shifter, he runs a security business that has a lot of firms in Brinnswick, but he is opening a new one in another country called Gauhala. He is joined by three of his friends (Isa a fae, Tan a witch and Savelle a Kelpie). Don’t worry we still see quite of few of our favourite characters from the treasured Ellwood family!

A strange coin causes Remi and Bel to meet and then to keep meeting actually. Bel is a fae and in this country fae are seen as evil and discriminated against. Because of this Bel is quite prickly and untrusting, rightfully so, but very caring towards his family (his five cousins). Bel is also very gifted with music and has a deep love of it. Remi on the other hand is a total sweetheart - protective and kind. This story was exactly what I needed to get me back into reading.

Allin being the same over-protective dad he has always been never fails to make me laugh. The family moments in this book are so sweet and often made me say “aww”.
“You guys came and put up wards?”
My dad simply said, “Yes.”
“Dad! You do know that I run a security firm, right? Like, this is what I do for a living?”

And that is why I love Notaro’s style of writing. I know when I pick up one of her books it will be a well written story, with characters who are engaging and more often than not will have me laughing out loud at some point. This was a wonderful read that had me swooning and laughing and left me with a smile on my face.

If you believe heat is to do with the chemistry between the two characters then you will certainly not be disappointed. However, if you believe heat is directly related with intimate scenes then you should know these are minimal, as the book is mainly focused on the developing relationship and the feelings/ trust between them. Personally this didn’t bother me as it felt right for the two characters.

Sometimes both Remi and Bel act oblivious which doesn’t fit with their characters and low key annoyed me, however, this didn’t make me love them any less.

What I was really excited to learn is that Tan (mentioned earlier) and Keryth (Bel’s friend, a vampire) will each be getting their own individual books! And they both actually meet their viramores in this book so we even know who they will be with!

This heartfelt romance has it all. A sexy, sweet hero; a strong, snarky hero; action; humour; heat and lots of heart. I highly recommend!

This book contains sensitive content such as homelessness (one of the MCs), discrimination, violence and death.

Sigh, I just write a whole review only for the app to shut down at the end. So I'm sorry if I'm not that eloquent the second time around...

I loved this sweet love story between the fae and the wolf shifter. It was also a blast to meet up with some beloved characters once more. This is a huge benefit to your setting being in a fantasy world where people live hundreds of years 👍🏻

Remi was a very sweet and patient partner to Bel. This is what I love about books like that and about Michele Notaro's writing style. There have been books in this and other series that were darker themed and where the action and hart wrenching moments were more in the forefront, but always up to a point. Never just for the sake of it. I love that you can relax with one of this authors books without having to worry. Some characters demand/call for a more emotional story line and others are more on the cosy side of things. There is always a time and a place. This book also deals with heavier topics but it was handled with soft gloves rather than exploiting it to take the reader in darker waters.

I in generell am not a fan of too dark tropes as I am of the mind that the world we live in is unpredictable enough and the beauty of literature is that you can emerse yourself into a world were true love exists, and a resolution to a problem and wholesome families and comfort. Thisnis why I enjoy this authors work. Michele Notaro knows when and how much to push and when to let up.

So, true, Remi with his seemingly endless supply of patience, capacity to act with hindsightand loyaly might only exist in our world in people born every other blue moon but I would like to think that there are people like that out there. Maybe a bit like this famous Mr. Rogers? But who cares in the end? I loved him exactly for that reason and for who he portrayed.

I think a little bit of Bel lives in all of us. Scared and suspicious of anything good happening, looking for the flaw or the price tag that comes with it. So, I understood why the stories emphasis was more on their relationship with an action subplot rather that the other way around or equally spaced. The real plot was Bel himself. For me at least.

The conclusion with their adversary was foreseeable to me early on but nonetheless satisfying in the end.

I was so excited when I saw that Remi Ellwood was getting his own story, and I absolutely loved his and Bel's healing journey. Their romance leaned hard into slow-burn and hurt/comfort themes, and my heart and soul got so invested in seeing them reach a happy ending. Bel had been through so much before he met Remi, and it broke my heart to see how little trust he had for anyone outside of his small family. I could tell that he had no idea what to do with Remi's sweet earnestness, and it was very cute to see Bel slowly open up and learn to trust in it. Remi was such a sweetheart in the way he approached Bel--always careful to respect his boundaries and offering reassurance without any strings attached. At times I thought Bel might skitter away and never contact Remi again, but with time and patience the two of them built a deeply intimate bond. The more Bel opened up to Remi, the more I saw what an incredible person he was, placed in a crappy situation. I was downright horrified when I found out about all the strings tying him to an evil mastermind, and the fact that he bound himself to keep his family safe was such a self-sacrificing Bel thing to do. In terms of the storyline, I really enjoyed getting to see more of the world outside of Brinnswick and follow a new set of characters. Remi's new security firm was an exciting endeavor to explore, and while I didn't get a ton of time to meet his team I already like what I see. Michele Notaro laid some breadcrumbs for a couple of potential relationships that I'm already desperately curious about, and I can't wait to see what twists and turns are in store for all of them. The big bad of Remi and Bel's story wasn't a huge surprise to me, but the action heated up quickly right at the very end and left the team with some devastating losses even as they eeked out a victory. And of course, I can't review an Ellwood book without talking about their huge, messy, loving family and how much I adore all of them. Even though most of this book focused on Remi's independent venture, there were plenty of cameos from my old favorites and it was a ton of fun to see Bel meet everyone.

This book is in a multi author series that is also attached to the authors previous book series. I don't think it's absolutely necessary to have read the previous series but with all the characters that pop in it would definitely be a plus. That being said it is a very good book.

Bel is someone trying to live a good life when he's in a bad situation. He lives on the streets and busks for money to survive and help his cousins out too. He is approached by Remi who returns a coin to him that isn't his but Remi insists it feel from his backpack. Okay he'll take it and pawn it later for money, only for later to find the coin gone. Then Remi approaches him again to give him the coin that has mysteriously returned to him. This leads these two to dating and forming a relationship. Remi is full tilt ahead and Bel is cautiously taking it day by day. Bel's past history keeps interrupting his current life with Remi and causing trouble. Remi isn't about to let Bel's past get between them though.

This is an interesting fantasy/paranormal/romance. It is well written with good world and character building. The chemistry between the MCs is good. I really liked that Remi was set on Bel and not about to let anything keep them apart. He believed in Bel's good side that he was standing by him. I liked that Bel was in a bad situation but was determined to help those around him. I liked that there was characters from the authors previous series as it showed how tight and loving Remi's family is. I also liked that there was situations set up for more books attached to this one. I definitely liked this book and recommend it and the author.

Michele Notaro is one of those authors that has made me weep uncontrollably in a public space because a brutal scene. So going into this I figured I was going to be completely emotionally wrecked. I did get fairly close to that outcome but thankfully no one died that I didn’t want to see die.

The best thing about this world and being able to time skip is that all out magical friends have a long life so we can see characters like Remi our wolf boy fully grown up. Getting to see him working with his fathers Ailin and Sebastien who were the main focus of the original series. I liked getting to see this book branch out into other countries in the world as, while I love Brinnswick, the land is too set up for justice and a new land gives Remi room to make it a better place.

Getting to know Bel was one of the best parts about this book as he is a fresh face with a tragic backstory. Living on the streets and selling his glamour ability just so that his cousins don’t loose their home. He wants to trust but only has it in him to trust his cousins and his vampire friend that owns the 24 hour bookstore. Also side note now i want to open a 24 hour bookstore as that sounds like an absolute dream. I really appreciated watching Bel’s journey to learning to trust Remi and being heartbroken that he had to stab Remi in the back. The scene where he is crying and broken in the museum about betraying Remi got me tearing up and wanting to comfort the purple haired fae.

The distrust of the fae in this country is abhorrent and I hope when we get Tan’s book where and the dragon king become viramore that he makes a change to treatment of fae kind.

4.5/5 I had lots of feels with this one. Bel was stuck in a crappy situation, and it was so nice to see him learn that Remi could be trusted. I liked how respectful Remi was while still wanting every good thing for Bel. I enjoyed seeing them get closer to one another and dancing around the idea of viramore. We’ve got a solid fated mate trope but also lots of time for them to get to know one another. I loved how solid Remi’s trust is. I hope that there’s continued improvements to how fae are treated, because it’s pretty rough. I like Remi’s way more egalitarian approach, and I sure hope it spreads.

It was fun to spend time with the Ellwoods again. (Not sure if it would be overwhelming for someone who hasn’t read any of the other books. I thought they worked well as side characters/family here without needing to know all the background. But for those who have read them, lots of familiar faces popping in occasionally.)

I look forward to the two upcoming books by Michelle, as this one definitely made me want to see what happens to those two other pairs, while also being happy to head off with the coin to the next adventure in this series.

Remi travels far from home to establish a new business, and as a bonus gets him away from his overbearing family. He cannot help but notice a beautiful man and gives him a coin he saw fall from his bag, allowing him to talk with him. Bel is skittish and mistrustful, but Remi is determined to get him in his life, even if he has to take baby steps. Bel feels the same attraction but wants to keep Remi safe from his mess of a life. As luck would have it, neither man wants to stay away from the other.

This book is part of a multi author series called Fortune Favors the Fae and this should be an amazing series. Remi had to work hard to overcome Bel’s trust issues. The Fae are not treated right and are often refused service and housing. Remi had to work around that but Bel had a secret and that secret was coming back to haunt his new life. He wanted nothing more than to be with Remi but things are not looking good. Exciting, with lots of action and Remi’s family who refused to be left out, everyone, including his partners, are working towards a happy ending. I really enjoyed this story and plan on reading the rest in this series. I recommend you do as well.

The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae is a story that left me conflicted. It was one I picked up because it seemed to offer plenty of things that I enjoy, and I was curious to see how it would come together, yet my feelings changed as the story progressed.

I started curious about this one, eager to learn more about the story. The biggest thing I was curious about was the world. It seemed so similar to ours with the supernatural thrown in, but I never really got a full picture. As more details were added, I remained curious to see how they would come together. Sadly, they were never fully developed. Instead, the story focused on being overly sweet between the main characters. While there is nothing wrong with this, it did take away from the rest of the story. There were so many elements that I wanted to explore more deeply, but they were pushed aside and only appeared again toward the end. It meant the impact of the story was not as hard as I had hoped, which is why my interest lessened the more I read.

All in all, this had potential, yet it did not tick my boxes. However, I am sure it will work for others who are more interested in sweetness between characters than deeper world building.

“The Wolf's (Un)Lucky Fae” by Michele Notaro was a fun exciting and enjoyable read. There is plenty of humore and action/exciting events but at the same time there is a hurt/comfort feel throughout and plenty of heart. It is part of the Fortune Favors the Fae multi author series that has a magic coin as the connecting focus.
Bel is Fae and in his country they are not treated well. Because of this he has serious distrust of everyone aside from a few close family and friends. Remi temporarily moves for business and and meets Bel. He is a genuinly nice guy and struggles with trying to show Bel how much he cares and can be trusted. Their relationship is a bit slow burn but it’s true to the story and the characters. It’s a rather lovely romance.
This story is set as a prequel to a new spin-off series so there are familiar characters as well as events that seem to lead up into the first book in the new series.
I highly recommend this book!
I was given a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

I was hooked on this story, and invested in the characters and their world immediately. I’m curious about the origins of the coin! I haven’t read any of the author’s Brinnswick series, but plan to remedy that very soon as I need to know more about Alin, Seb, and the rest of Remi’s family.

I loved how kind-hearted both Remi and Bel are, and how determined Remi is. He’s such a sweetheart and goes out of his way to help others, such as the homeless fae. Bel hides his good nature better but gets himself into a lot of trouble protecting his cousins. I liked how clueless both of them are about their connection.

The supporting cast are wonderful. I loved their families, and how they look out for each other. Remi’s friendship with Tan, Isa, and Savelle are a highlight. I loved everyone rallying around to take down the bad guy in an exciting showdown, and Remi’s dads’ reactions afterwards.

I always appreciate a cat in a story, and loved Orangelica.

I love the hints of what’s in store for the future. Remi and Bel’s HEA is sweet, and a satisfying conclusion to their story.

So even though this is part of a series, it is part of the standalone multiple author series. It is also set in the same world as part of a couple of the author's series. I haven't read all of them, yet, but didn't feel lost. So Remi has decided to branch out to another country to open a branch of his security company. His parents, Allin & Seb, are not happy that he is leaving. But they know that he does have to spread his wings so to speak. As he is exploring his new home, he sees a coin that he believes Bel dropped & stops him. There wasn't that "OMG" you are my mate, but there is instant attraction, especially on Remi's part. Bel is very distrustful of the "rich" Bel as he is very poor & struggling to take care of himself & helping out with his cousins. There is a slow development of a relationship and building trust between our MC's. I really need to get caught up on the other series. I am also so glad that Tan & Keryth will be getting their own books as I love them.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

DNF @85% I tried to skim for a while but better to just move on imo. The following comments are notes for myself in case I forget why I gave up. 🤗

I haven’t read the series this is connected to and it’s not really necessary but some things weren’t super fleshed out for me (or I’m dumb idk I’m running on very little sleep this week) like the obligation situation. I didn’t know what the rules were for it so I was lost for a while wondering why Bel didn’t ever try to get help but I guess he couldn’t talk about it (what about writing though? He didn’t try 🤔)

I liked Bel who was a homeless fae busker and his character was pretty interesting overall but Wolf boy was so one-note I was immensely bored by him. There were also hints at other romances that weren’t interesting to me and then the two deaths at the end meant nothing because those characters had just been introduced. Idk I just stopped caring.

This a such a sweet story!

Remi and Belryn are just very lovable, trying to take care of each other and falling more and more in love with each other. The story focuses mostly on their relationship, with a slow building action plot line. An easy read, with hardly any suspense. There's some heartache and a few sobs, but there are plenty of sweet and tender moments as well. A lot of focus on (found) family and friends, making sure there are plenty of great side characters as well.

The world is easy to understand, with an urban fantasy feeling. Though this book is the second one in the 'Fortune Favors the Fae' series, they are all set up to be read as stand-alone books, so you don't have to worry on missing out on anything.

This story and the character Remi is connected to the Brinnswick/Ellwood series by Michele Notaro. Not having read any of those books, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. Even with a powerful family at his back and call, Remi wants to take care of his issues himself, which I think is really nice. It also ensures there is no OP character stealing the show from the sweet wolf boy.

There were be more books in this world, where some of the side characters in this story will get their own story. I can't wait to read those stories as well!

The Wolf’s UnLucky Fae is part of the multi-author series, Fortune Favors the Fae. The book is Elwood-Brinnswick adjacent in that one of the main characters is the son of Sebastian and Ailin. Remington (Remi) is the wolf shifter baby that the two adopt at the end of the Elwood series.
This book is a sweet paranormal book about Remi finding his fated mate (viramore) in the fae Bel. One of Ms. Notaro’s best abilities is the world she creates in her novels, and this one is no exception. Remi has moved far away to a place called Guahala in order to open a new branch of his security business (and escape his loving but overbearing family). Bel has had a hard life in Guahala because the fae are regarded as lowly and untrustworthy there. It is so beautiful and satisfying when Bel meets Remi because he brings all of the sweetness and kindness that Bel deserves in his life.
This is a book you can devour, savor, and later reminisce many times. Absolutely 5 stars.

This was a cute, easy read. Bel was just adorable; I wanted to wrap him in a blanket and hug him. So selfless, so sweet, but so distrusting...and rightfully so! And then he meets Remi, so much his opposite. Remi's got a loving family, has plenty of money, and apparently came from a part of the world where, while there may be some discrimination, it's not as awful as where Bel's lived his entire life. Remi is such a hero and Bel didn't want someone rescuing him. But they worked well together, eventually found a rhythm.

It was good, really enjoyed, but I was left wondering why the fae were so discriminated against in this part of the world. It mentions how the fae aren't to be trusted, that they can trick people, gain obligations from them, make people owe them and so on, but....is that what happened? I'm kind of curious on this.

I may actually read some more of this author--I believe I only ever read something from Michele Notaro in an anthology--as I did find this a fun read.

Will be continuing with this multi-author series and, if you enjoy sweet, fun reads, I recommend it!

I really liked this one. I never read any of the previous books from this universe, and while I feel like it might have been helpful to have a better feel for some of the side characters, it wasn't necessary and I didn't feel like I was missing anything.
Michele is great at writing repressed and discriminated groups of people. Anyone who read the Magi Accounts can attest to that. While we didn't get as many details or go as dark in this one, I certainly felt for the fae and hated seeing what they were going through, especially how Bel internalized a lot of that hate and truly believed it.
I loved Remi. He was so sweet and patient with Bel, and even when everything went down, he never doubted him. I loved it. It was definitely a slow burn mixed with hurt/comfort but it worked for these characters. I also liked the set up for some future books and the use of the coin, which is the connecting piece in this multi-author collab.

A fated mating between a sweet and kinda wolf shifter and a fae who’s been told he’s evil he’s whole life. For me I didn’t feel the emotion that should have underlines the story. I felt intrigued throughout the story, wanting to know how it ended, for the world, and I wasn’t upset by the ending. It’s a great story that so far matched the series and I enjoyed the way Michele used the coin to connect the MC’s.

Troupes:
Multi-Author series connected by Coin.
Fated Mates
Shifter x Fae
Down On his luck/Change of Luck
TW: homelessness, discrimination, violence and death.

Connected: Ellwood Chronicles series and Brinnswick Chronicles series
I haven’t read the above series. I felt there was something missing in the beginning; however he explains who his family is enough throughout the book that I only made me want to start at the beginning.

Sweet romance

I enjoyed this as I was wanting something that had a sweetness to it and this fit the bill. Bel and Remi are great; you’ve got one solid, sweet, easy going MC and one MC who is prickly, vulnerable and feels like he’s got to be on guard all the time. It’s a good combination for a sweet romance because it keeps enough of an edge that it doesn’t feel bleh but also stay sweet. There’s a bit of having to just accept certain things plot wise (some aspects aren’t really explained, we’re more just told that’s how it is with no real background) but I didn’t mind so much as in all honesty the focus for me was the romance. This is set in an existing world but I didn’t feel lost at any point even when there were cameos (I hate when suddenly I’m lost in an inside joke from the main series). All in all it’s a good, light sweet read that left me happy.

I enjoy the series of books which are multi author with a theme. I think its usually best of the theme running through the books is maybe a place. For this series of books its a coin. The trouble is book 1 kinda of sets the coin and in this case was a a little bugger who had a love hate relationship with its master.
In this 2nd book in the series, the coin was almost an after thought. I understood the first appearance of the coin but failed in the other few attempts. He had no personality. As it said at the end of the last book he was going to see Bel and there was a bit after the epilogue in this book to say he was now going onto new MCs, it is supposed to be the same coin. So having a complete personality turnaround made no sense, ( except it was written by a different author.)
The story between Remi and Bel was nice, fated mates who took a while to decide it was true.
