A dark and sexy thriller from a sensational new voice.
Deanna Madden, aka Jessica Reilly, hasn't touched another person in three years.

She hasn't left her apartment.

She makes money from performing to webcams on a sex site, where her clients pay $6.99 a minute for her time.

She's doing alright. The dollars are piling up in the bank. She's the number 3 model on cams.com.

And she hasn't killed anyone for years.

But when Deanna sees on the news that a little girl called Annie has gone missing, the story rattles her carefully ordered world. It's uncomfortably similar to the dark fantasy of one of her most disturbing online clients. She's convinced he's responsible for the girl's abduction - but no one will listen to her.

So, after three years, Deanna finally leaves the apartment.

And this is what happens...

★★★★! The Girl in 6E (book 1). A captivating, suspenseful & soul-searching journey for a reclusive heroine with secrets!

“They believe what they see, because they want to believe. They want to believe that I am normal. And for the brief moments I am with them, I fool myself into thinking the same thing.”

The Girl in 6E is another clever and brilliantly told story courtesy Alessandra Torre. It’s best dived into therefore my review will be very vague.

All books in the Deanna Madden romantic thriller series are stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order:
Book 1: The Girl in 6E
Book 2: Do Not Disturb
Book 3: If you Dare
- November 2015

The Girl in 6E is Deanna Madden’s story. Three years prior she moved into apartment 6E and hasn’t left her home since. Working for webcam companies as Jessica Reilly, a student and sex kitten, her carefully structured and organized life was prompted by her phobia that she is a danger to society. That fear came about around the time she lost her whole family in a gruesome crime all which will be detailed as her story unfolds.

She has accepted her solitary existence until one day when, through work she comes in contact with a person who could very well be a murderer in hunt of his next victim. Around the same time, one of several men in her life will step forward as a potential hero. The story will go on to cover some life changing events for Deanna, but not before taking us on a dangerous and suspenseful mission that will keep us at the edge of your seat rooting for Deanna and her HEA.

DEANNA MADDEN aka JESSICA BETH REILLY:

Seven words to describe Deanna: Smart, perceptive, organized, loyal, responsible, broken and captivating.

HERO:
~25 years/TBA/brown hair/green eyes.

As promised story does have a hero. Six words to describe hero: Patient, loyal, charming, endearing, perceptive and safe.

The Girl in 6E is a roller-coaster of events and suspense as well as a journey of self-discovery. It leaves Deanna with a happy-for-now and the door open for book 2: Untitled , due in the spring of 2015.

Thrilling and mysterious plot! Brilliant and effortless storytelling! Compelling heroine! And a very swoon-worthy and adorable hero!

this story has quite an interesting premise - a woman obsessed with killing hasnt left her apartment in 3 years. i was immediately drawn in, eager for the psychological twistedness that should come with homicidal tendencies and reclusiveness.

however, while the foundational basis is there, the story lacks deeper substance. deanna is an interesting character, with the potential to be complex, but i feel like the reader only sees whats on the surface. there are some small glimpses into her thinking and a glimmer of hope for character development, but its very minimal. and the majority of her interactions come from her webcam business. some scenes added to the story and did further the plot, but others… not so much. so there was some brief skimming from time to time.

i do like the mystery aspect of the plot, even if it does come later in the book. i also think jeremy is an interesting characters and a great opportunity for some of that character development i thought was missing for deanna. i might continue the series, just to see what happens between those two.

overall, a quick, entertaining story, but its pretty bare bones.

They say God giveth, and he taketh away. Well the night of my mother’s carnage, he gave me the urge to kill.

Despite how I feel about this, I’m curious to see what happens next.

In all honesty, it’s kind of my fault for going into this with high expectations, which I usually try to avoid. But with a premise like that, it was quite impossible to avoid doing so.

I mean, picture this: A girl who can easily be considered a psychopath hasn’t left her apartment in 3 years, and that includes 3 years of not touching another human. She’s isolated herself due to her obsession and thoughts about killing—the violent, gory way. To pass time, she takes up camming, where her source of income comes from. Through this, though, she discovers that one of her clients is a pedophile, giving suspicious urges and hints in how he asks our heroine (Deanna, but she goes as Jessica online) to comply. When her client has captured a little girl named Annie, Deanna insists on becoming someone who can help Annie, and hopefully save her. Maybe Deanna’s fantasy of killing will finally come true.

Deanna is an interesting character. The idea of camming was new and fascinating to me. Yet, what really grabbed my attention is the character of Deanna due to her literal thirst to kill. A psychopath indeed. Despite this, I have to say, if you’re curious about this trilogy, ignoring the romance or not really paying attention to it is the best choice. I know, the heroine does camming for a living, but this trilogy was mentioned to me though and I added it on a whim, not knowing much besides the premise, and then I went into it expecting so much more. After all, the camming and sessions aren’t what bothered me. It’s more or so how much space they took while the interesting part of this had little screen time.

The idea and research put into this, which the author provided a note on that she did, along with different sources she even used (we love authors who do proper research), doesn’t bother me either. However, we know Deanna’s thoughts, so one would expect more of those thoughts to turn into actions, yet majority of it was spent just internally or through her webcam sessions. Some of them felt unnecessary. I felt like some of those scenes could have easily been used to foreshadow anything related to what was going to happen either later in the book or in the next books. I would have even taken more internal monologue or obsessive thoughts Deanna had of killing.

Not only that, but I hoped the “romance” building up (or at least, I suspect?) wasn’t such an integral part of this. Considering Deanna hasn’t touched a human in 3 years, it’s pretty darn understandable that when a man is on top of her, kisses her, and touches her, she’ll start to react sexually. Yet, it gets to the point where those internal thoughts start to become more and more relevant to a plot that was so minimally effective and only towards the end.

Adding on to that, I easily lost interest in the beginning. It was 20% in when I started questioning if something was gonna happen soon because of how bored and out of it I was. While I know Deanna’s webcam sessions were done for the reader to get an idea of her character (you know, meet her, get to know her, know why she does what she does, etc), the style of it dragged and felt tiresome.

Yet, I do admit that I have some hope because this is the first book in a trilogy, so I don’t doubt I’ll appreciate more of where Deanna’s character will develop to in the next books. So, in the end, this was definitely more of a me problem.

Being in Deanna’s head was, admittedly, fascinating. But the substance was very little.

I’ve read one book from Alessandra Torre (actually, her novel Moonshot was one of the first NA romances I read back in 2016, when I got back into reading), but this was my first time reading her as A.R. Torre, as well as first time reading one of her thrillers. This novella was extremely short, stopping at 150 pages, so it was a quick and easy read.

Here I go again… boldly stepping outside my protective reading bubble and trying something new. An erotic thriller!🔥

Deanna is a responsible sociopath! She knows she’s dangerous and has a passion to kill. So, as any responsible murderer would do, she takes precautions. (Thank-you, Deanna.) She’s directed her neighbor to lock her in her apartment at night so she can’t get out, since this is when her temptations are worst. It seems to be working. It’s probably been years since she left her apartment. Everything she needs she orders from the internet for delivery. So much so, she even has her own special UPS delivery man ... Jeremy. Who happens to have more of an interest in her than just customer deliveries.

How does Deanna support herself if she never leaves home, you may ask? Well... Miss Deanna is an online sex worker. And these little trysts are her only human contact with the real world. (So to speak.)

What will it take to lure Deanna out of her self-imposed lock-down? And of more concern…given her notorious little hobby, will anyone be safe out there if she does step out?

I can’t say enough about this book! I loved it! I listened to the audio and the narration was fabulous! I devoured this entire audio in just a few sitting. Something I rarely do!

When I finished I was pleased to learn this is just book one of a series! I already have book two queued up!

Alessandra is an exceptional author and I was completely blown away by this series.

We have a Girl with a penchant for knives and *cough* blood, a geeky hacker, a mailman, and a deliciously swoony psychiatrist. Between the lot of them, this non-stop suspense will have you gasping long after the last page.

Don't miss this series. Deanna is a badass.

This beautiful quote, for me, sums up the emotion of Girl in 6E. The words touch my heart, show me the beauty, the sadness and the eloquence of the writing.

I was excited, but also a little nervous going into this read, I knew it wasn't my normal kind of book; at times the gruesome nature of it made me want to squint at the words, look away..... Some of the subject matter is uncomfortably rotten, but in some scenarios, it had to be this way. Alessandra Torre was keeping it real.

What’s it all about? Well, I can only give you a small taste, a sense of the characters and how it made me feel. The plot and inner workings, you’ll have to discover for yourself, it’s the only way to experience Girl in 6E.

It's a deeply layered story of hope and courage, depravity and loss. The dark suspenseful beauty is sublime, the words so powerful and intense; the helplessness of the character is palpable. This story is both gruesome and tender.

Deanna Madden is the Girl in 6E
Deanna's personality and wicked sense of irony are revealed during her many web chats. So much attention is given to character detail and it’s clear, from the honest writing, that this author has researched the subject areas with care and attention.

“He thinks he knows me. They all think they know me.”

We become immersed in the web cam world, with Deanna and her alter ego, Jessica. We meet her various clients, and other professionals from whom she needs services. We see the strange and wonderful, and worse.... Deanna has her regulars, her one offs and new people who decide to take their chats 'private.' People reveal to her their secret fantasies, their perversions but she doesn’t judge them, not when her secret, “….obsession, is worse than any of theirs.”

She has it under control.
She’s locked herself away from others.
She’s the Girl in 6E.

Fantasy does not always match reality… This is explored with subtle brilliance.

The transitions between different aspects of the story telling are seamless; lots of elements and a plethora of additional characters all falling perfectly into place. The story emerges slowly, as to why she’s the Girl in 6E, and we're taken along a road of intrigue and suspense as we see the story unfold… I loved trying to work it all out, the suspense, the intrigue, WHO??? WHY??? My mind was in overdrive and I loved it!

Jeremy.... *sigh* I adore him and that's part of the beauty, Alessandra gave me a male lovely on whom to focus and hope for. He's my promise of things to come...

What shapes our thoughts, our wants, our desires?

Girl in 6E is incredibly intense but it also managed to touch my heart and bring tears to my eyes. We see a person struggling daily to control evil desires believing she’ll never do normal things.... There’s a terrible sadness in the dark shadows of this book but by the end I felt a sense of being uplifted... That's the dark beauty of this story.

Alessandra Torre is a writer known for producing the most delicious, beautiful erotic stories so I need to clarify one thing, Girl in 6E is a book without smut, that’s right…. NO SMUT! But let me tell you it matters NOT, the book has adult content and the promise of maybe something more in later stories. It hooks you in, captivates your imagination and takes you on a compelling journey.

She has a unique and effortless style and I know, when I read one of her books, I’m going to get incredible writing with layers and depth in an individual world with characters so real and tangible, it takes your breath away. You feel their truth. And Girl in 6E is no exception. For me, it's a complete story in itself, and it’s not necessary to wait for the sequel. There isn’t a cliffhanger, more a feeling of wanting more from the characters and another story. The dark beauty in the writing is genius. And I want more.

The Girl in 6E is a suspenseful and captivating book that gets you hooked from the beginning. Dexter Morgan lovers you will fall in love with this series. Deanna Madden aka Jessica B. Reilly; a twenty-one year old spends her daily living as a “Cam Girl”. She has survived for over three years without any human contact because she believed she was a danger to society. After a horrible tragic that left her basically homeless; with no mother, father or brother and sister she isolated herself inside her apartment 6E. In order to survived she had to find a job that pays well and required never leaving her home so “Webcamming” worked perfect for her. Pretty fast she learned it was a great way to save her from the urges of killing and blood and a fast way to make a lot of money.

Camming became her life, “her normal”. She would order all her supplies and food online so she never had to step away from her apartment. A very handsome delivery boy named Jeremy who worked for the UPS Delivery Company found Deanna intriguing and mysterious; he wanted to know the mystery of the girl that hide behind the door of the apartment on 6E.

“Her voice was strong but had a sweet tone and enough sass that his mind begged for a look at the woman connected to it.” Jeremy

description

I wanted to know more about Jeremy and Deanna and if their “none” existing relationship will become more. Jeremy’s curiosity for Deanna was intriguing and I wanted to know more.

“He disorients my world, captures my spirit, and heals a little of my soul, all in the course of seconds.” Deanna

One of her first customers was Mike. He was a great character; his fun relationship with her was great to watch. She paid him to be her personal hacker. He made sure she was protected from other hackers and always kept her updated from danger of stalkers. His layback personality was adorable he is defiantly a likeable character on this book. Deanna’s doctor Derek was very mysterious and I also wanted to know more about his character.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Deanna learned pretty quickly how to identify killers like her by their actions. One client in particular had some fetish and she didn’t like it one bit. She started was so smart I loved her character and she found out very quickly this guys fantasies were going to become real if she didnt do anything about it. She risked her sanity and left her apartment for the first time in three years. However; all the risks and what she did made me love her more. Overall, I loved this book because Deanna was able to use her instincts; she used her killing desired to save a person and that was amazing. This book was something I was totally not expecting. There was so much anxiety building up, so much suspense; I didn’t know what to do with myself. I thought I was going out of my mind I was scared to death of what was going to happened but the author was able to make this book super intense, intriguing, thrilling and fascinating. I just couldn’t get enough of Deanna and her story. Her past was so sad I couldn’t help loving her character and will power to be a good person.

Before I started reading Romance, I was a mystery, psychological thriller, mind fuckery reader... yes, this gal who now reads all the hot, steamy, HEA's she can get her little hands on use to devour them.

So when The Girl in 6E came to me... I was very intrigued... classified as romance??? Has the main character with urges to kill so strong her existence is in her apartment and she never leaves??? How the hell is this going to work, I wondered.

Well... deep down I knew it would all come together masterfully because this was not some little attempt at mindfuckery..oh, no.... this was done by Alessandra Torre... and when you put together these elements with her creativity... I knew I was in for a ride.

Our main character, Deanna at 21, is presented to us as she is now... she has been living in her apartment for the last 3 years never leaving.
Yes, that is correct... she never leaves the place or physically sees anyone. Everything is either delivered or mailed to her; she only has limited real interaction with 2 shrinks she talks with via phone, a Vicodin addict who locks her in ever night in order to get his monthly prescription and the UPS Deliver man whom she never sees and only says leave the package, thank you.

The decision to live this way seemed to be the only way to keep others safe....for Deanna has desires... needs... overwhelming wants... to kill, mutilate, slash any human who comes in contact with her.... and she is only doing what she sees is right... for left to her own devices... blood would flow...

Now the way Deanna figured out how to support this lifestyle was genius... she looked into stuffing envelopes or call centers... but the one most lucrative was virtual sex... you know, the kind where there are cams in the girl's rooms and they do stuff for the people they are talking with....they never actually touch or meet... but at $6.99 a minute... Deanna could cover all of her needs in her self imprisoned environment.

Deanna, though, was smart, crafty, college-educated, and wanted to be left alone. She created Jessica Riley; got all of the necessary official documents, set up a mini studio in her apartment working the cam system and her popularity took off. She made herself the perfect wet dream of all men across the globe... played the 19-year-old coed... spoke directly to them, gave them whatever fetish they wanted without judgment.... she was perfect.

She had her life down to a routine... and she fought her demons every day ... what makes the change... what makes this all come to a turning point is with her picking up a new subscriber to her website... what he wants... how she feels about it... and where it goes... Deanna senses all her dreams may come true finally with purpose...

This book takes you on this ride ... it grabs you by your virtual balls, and squeezes them when necessary to get your attention... you think you have a handle on what is happening and then Ms. Torre does her thing...

She grabs you... she puts you on the edge of your seat and dares you to walk away and put the book down ... I didn't take that dare... I read from cover to cover because it was that good...

I wanted to know what was going to happen... I was able to put pieces together and go with Deanna/Jessica down this rabbit hole through all of the characters' POV'S... It was spellbinding... I could feel how each person felt and tried to anticipate what the next move was going to be. There were times I got it... but then there were times when the magnitude of what Deanna had experienced just shock me to my core.

Ms. Torres took me into a world that really exists... she was thorough and made all of the facts.. interesting yet also laced with humor and understanding.

This was a revision of the first publication and I am very excited to say the ending was not a cliffhanger yet there is another book coming involving these characters. I for one cannot wait... bring it on, Ms. Torre... Bring it on.

4.5⭐️ unpopular opinion: 95% of dark romance should be written as erotic thriller/horror 🙂🙂

Deanna Jessica is a cam girl who suffers from anthropophobia, which is fear of human interaction. Anthropophobia, mixed with a healthy dose of cruorimania, which is obsession with murder.

She manages to avoid human interactions for three years but when she becomes an enigma and source of interest to the hot mail guy who leaves her the many, many packages she needs to cope, her self-isolation is threatened and her murder fantasies come out to play, so to speak.

On her web life, a client who enjoys getting off on her cosplaying as a little girl makes Deanna realize that a real girl might be in real danger from a pedophile in the family.

So after years, Deanna leaves her apartment hoping her will to save this little girl is greater than her hunger for murder.

apparently, this is my first erotic thriller 😌😅

This is me fulfilling my promise to read a book with lots of blood and deaths and believe me this book has those things AND MORE- things that made me choke harder than the sight of blood and gore. This book annihilated what is little left of my innocence and if you want to keep your innocence intact, I suggest you stay away from this book. Lol.

This is probably what I looked like during the first half of the story.

Good thing there is more to this novel than those gory, graphic triple X RATED details because the thriller and mysterious aspect of the plot somehow made the entire thing work better than I expected and it was a relief that the last half of the novel relied mainly on those two things. The conclusion is very satisfying and I really liked the character development of the heroine and even though there were quite a lot of unrealistic elements to the entire story, they were what made it entertaining and even darkly funny.

So thank you so much to my dearest friend, Pearl, for sending me a physical copy of the book. This was indeed a very unforgettable, one of a kind reading experience. It doesn’t hurt to try new things once in a while and thank you for giving me that opportunity. Hehe. <3

A.R. Torre is quickly becoming one of my favorite versatile authors. I first read EVERY LAST SECRET (coming to you in October 2020), and loved how juicy and fun the thriller was. Next, I read THE GHOSTWRITER, which she wrote as Alessandra Torre. It’s a rich, emotional drama with simmering suspense that made me bawl. She also writes romance (haven’t read those). Then, we have THE GIRL IN 6E (almost sounds like “sexy” and I wonder if that was intentional)...the first in a trilogy of erotic thrillers.

Deanna Madden lives alone and hasn’t left her apartment in three years. She has everything she needs delivered to her. She makes her money from her occupation as a camgirl, having cyber sex with strangers who pay $6.99 a minute for various “sessions”. Although money is no issue in her life, she has an insatiable desire to kill. That’s why she won’t let herself step outside of her apartment. When she finds out that one of her clients might be a pedophile with a victim already in mind, she may have to step outside of her comfort zone in more ways than one.

I’m not a fan of trash and/or erotica in my books, but this is not a trashy novel. It just so happens that this is Deanna’s job. Although there are some scenarios that might even make Jenna Jameson blush (...ok, not likely), there is much more to the story than that. It’s suspenseful and gripping...and I couldn’t help but turn the pages to find out what Deanna was going to do about the situations that occur. It’s disturbing and suspenseful, but I also found myself smiling and feeling happy at times for the character growth. I can’t wait to devour the rest of the trilogy!

Sooooo I think all those that know me- or those who THINK they know me (over the last week...Yes, you- HATERS included- heheheheeeeee)- know, I am NOT a big fan of erotica.

Nope, not a fan of erotica at all- NOT one little bit.

...but I will say- I didn't hate this book- and the person that put THE GIRL IN 6E on my radar- I looooooove immensely... Richelle, my darling. Yes, I <3 you- sooooo I put my feelings of erotica aside, and I will review this book accordingly.

Deanna Madden- aka Jessica Reilly hasn’t touched another human being in three years. Because Deanna knows she may have "killer" tendencies. So she shuts herself away- to keep others safe.

 photo 6c6ef755-e54b-458a-91d3-84e50927a7f9_zpsmycmb3dy.jpg

She has spent the last little while- semi-naked surrounded by Barbie pink...talking to perverted men online, for a living- with nothing on their minds but sex sex sex.

The only people she comes in contact with is her prescription drug addled neighbor (this photo is for you Stepheny- you're welcome)...and the hunky UPS dude- that delivers alllllllll her needs...

...but one day- she realizes that one of her perverts has crossed a line. And could be a tad dangerous...especially after she learns a little girl is missing- and Deanna is willing to take a chance of crossing her own line- to save an innocent....

Maybe....

I think this series has a lot of potential- even with a few glitches here and there. I give it a couple of thumbs up- minus half a thumb. ;)

"Hope is dangerous. Hope can be the loose thread that pulls apart your sanity."

Suspense, intensity, horror, blood, terror, sex, passion, voyeurism, broken, joy, and romance are just a few words to describe the magnificence of Alessandra Torre’s The Girl in 6E.

Just like many other books, I saw this read splashing across the walls of countless GR posts. Of course, I shelved it with the other thousands and thousands of books on my to be read shelf and called it a day. When I found out the second book was coming out, I knew I wanted to jump on the train. Let me just say before you ride this baby you better have a few hours to give because once you start reading this you cannot stop!

Deanna has been living in her apartment for three years. She doesn’t leave her house. She has urges to harm people. Couple that with her profession as virtual sex cam girl and you get one interesting heroine.

"That’s the reason I stay away from people. Because I want to kill. Constantly. It’s almost all I think about."-Deanna

Deanna functions on a strict routine. She has her own rules to follow. She has put safeguards in place to keep her safe.

"Would I like to run free through life, have friends, fall in love, feel the sun on my face? Yes. But that is no longer an option for me; there is no point in dwelling on and torturing myself over it."-Deanna

One day everything changes.

"His hug breaks me, breaks every wall I have built, dam I have constructed, and weight I carry."-Deanna

"I don’t know what’s going on with you, with your whole “I don’t talk to people, I kill them” act. But I know what’s going on with me, and that’s that I can’t get you out of my mind. Please let me in."-Jeremy

description

Deanna must acclimate or else…

"Disappointment in others is tough. But disappointment in yourself is far worse. I’m not expecting others to disappoint me. No— I am my own dream killer."-Deanna

How do I describe this dark romance? I can't. This is something you feel through the text on each page.

The Girl in 6E is captivating. The characters are intense and in depth. The story is told in multiple point of views which gifts the reader with a panoramic glimpse of the characters. Each moment is captured with complete procision. The action is intense and yet the inner monologue of the heroine will keep you smiling. In short, I felt shocked, embarrassed, swoon worthy, love, compassion, pain, and heartbreak all in the span of minutes. I simply cannot say enough about this book. When reading this, you should go in blind. The less you know the more enjoyable the reading experience will be. I am so glad that I read this book. No matter how messy the tangled web developed, Ms. Torre is the master of packaging everything together and dressing it with the most stunning of bows. This is one package that I will surely want to open again and again. Don’t waste another second. Everyone should experience this read! Bravo!

I DON'T READ EROTIC STUFF, I don't even like romance mixed in my suspense. ICK!!

In my defense, I have never heard of "erotic thriller" as a genre. My innocent (!) little mind thought this book looked like it would be similar to THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW. I have been dying to get my hands on that upcoming book by AJ Finn.

The Overdrive app I use to borrow e-books from my library recommended this to me since all my other choices are still on hold. Don't you hate waiting for books on hold???

So based on the title alone, I started reading this unknown book from a genre I didn't know existed. And guess what? I didn't hate it!

The main character, Deanna, is a cyber sex worker. Meaning, she rolls around on a pink furry bed at home all day with 5 cameras and hot lights focused on her every move. All kinds of people pay her $6.99/ minute to share "private time" with her. You will get to learn about all kinds of weird sex fetishes. The author describes the mechanics of the sex industry and how much money is at stake in our cyber society. That aspect of the book is truly interesting. You can tell she did a lot of research on the topic and it is fascinating (to a non-erotica reader like me!). The sex part of the book is extremely graphic, yet presented in an almost light hearted way. Think 50 Shades of Grey.

Deanna is also a "Final Girl" (many thanks to Riley Sager for the scientific literary term). She has suffered way beyond PTSD, turning black-hearted and dangerous. She is convinced she must stay locked in her apartment for her own good and for the safety of all other people. She has murderous desires that would put DEXTER to shame.

Basically, through her "clients" she learns of a possible child abduction. We start to see her heart is not as dark as she claims it is. But will she be able to leave her apartment and rescue the child? And not go on a killing spree at the same time?

The story is entertaining and a quick read. Deanna is written as a strong personality and I definitely love my heroines with character flaws. She is over the top and unpredictable. She changes through the course of the story as she learns more about herself. The second half of the story is like a different book. All the shocking graphic scenes are in the first half of the story and then the book takes a fizzle as it follows the plot.

Out of my comfort zone and it may be out of yours, too. But, if you are looking for something different AND your complete wish list is on hold at the library....check it out!

Whoa. There was a lot going on in this one. I actually don't like most of Alessandra Torre's romances, but her thrillers have all been so entertaining so far, without exception. This one, despite being a little out there, engrossed me from the beginning and I finished it in a couple hours.

THE GIRL IN 6E is about a woman named Deanna Madden, a camgirl who works under the name "Jessica." Deanna lives in an apartment all alone, where she has her super lock her in at night, because she has an exceptionally dark past and obsesses about all the murders that she'd like to commit. For the good of humanity, she keeps herself in a cage.

The camgirl stuff seemed really well-researched. I actually just read Isa Mazzei's memoir, who was one of the most popular camgirls on the site that she used, and a lot of the stuff that Mazzei said or talked about (numbers, clients, the difficulties, perks, etc.) matched up, so I feel like Torre really did her research. Maybe she even sat in on a session or two for research. I was really impressed.

One day, one of Deanna's clients disturbs her with his request. He's into ageplay, but the details he gives her are so specific that she begins to wonder if he's imagining her as a specific girl. One he might be moving to hurt very soon. And that starts the rundown on a clock, which might just result in all of Deanna's very worst instincts coming out. The cage door is open... and the predator must be stopped.

(I should write book blurbs.)

So obviously, I really enjoyed this book. I think I actually read this as an ARC when it first came out but I didn't actually read that much about it. Recently I bought the sequel but since I couldn't remember what happened, I bought the first book again, too. I think it really holds up. The weakest element for me in this book was the romance (I didn't like Jeremy), but Deanna was awesome, and both the mystery and the camgirl sessions were really cool.

It was ridiculous, but kind of intriguing at the same time. I wasn’t a fan of plot or characters, but writing style kept my attention and it was very easy to read. The story itself I found very unbelievable and nerve wracking at times. The main character motivation behind her action was weak and sometimes she felt like she mocked herself, as the story progressed she become more and more irritating. I kind of see why this book is so loved by a lot of readers, but for me it wasn’t good in any way, shape or form.

The Girl in 6E is an intriguing, suspenseful read. The story of a 21 year old shut-in who spends her days and nights as a 'Cam girl' and lets just say business is good in the virtual world of sex. But with Deanna there is more than meets the eye. Deanna has locked herself away from others because she is afraid, if given the chance, she will not be able to resist her dark desires. Her mind is constantly plagued with an overwhelming desire to kill, for blood to flow.

The first shrink I had said I have anthropophobia, which is fear of human interaction. Anthropophopobia, mixed with an unhealthy dose of daconomania, which is obsession with murder.

She is comfortable with her routine, she has rules and everything seems to working fine, until a series of events changes everything. First an encounter with her UPS guy and then when one of her subscribers reveals his own disturbing desires, Deanna finds herself having to make some choices.

Hope, in general, is dangerous. Hope can be the loose thread that pulls apart your sanity.

I really enjoyed this one, complex characters with an interesting plot that I found very unique. I'm looking forward to seeing what is to come for Deanna.

Sadly, this book ended up being just okay for me. I wanted to love it so badly because a lot of my friends seem to really love it, but I thought it was just okay and not really my thing. I love the idea of this female killer who makes her living as a cam girl, this premise is so interesting, but the execution wasn't my favorite. Nothing really happens in this book until about 50% of the way in, and I wasn't a huge fan of the romance that was happening, it just felt kind of cheesy and unrealistic. Here's the vlog where I read it and talk more about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qd3S0...

One thing changed my mind. One darn thing.

When I first finished The Girl in 6E, I honestly thought I was going to rate higher than where I ended up. At first, I was thinking something between 3 and 4 stars because I'd been entertained. But I sat on my thoughts for a moment and waited to review, which lead me to realize that my initial feelings about the entertainment value of the story were not balancing out my feelings about some of the unresolved character issues at the end of the book.

My initial assessment that this book would be dark erotica was incorrect. While The Girl in 6E was dark, it certainly wasn't a turn on. There were erotic details because of Jessica's profession, but if you're wanting to read a book for the sake of steamy and captivating sex, this won't be the book for you.

Jessica/Deanna is fighting off urges to kill. She keeps herself locked in her apartment so she doesn't harm anyone. She supports herself by being a webcam girl, who acts out fetishes and fantasies for money.

Different concept, right? I thought so. It was all kind of bizarrely fascinating to watch "Jessica" at work. Every client had a new kink. Every package delivered to her home was left for her to retrieve when no one was around. The girl had issues. I have a twisted interest in people with issues.

Very mild spoilers ahead about character behavior, but I'll avoid any big plot reveals.

The webcam side of the story was executed well. It was obvious to see that the author had put a lot of research into knowing how girls on camera go about making their living.

The 'crazed killer' side of the story was awkward and not fleshed out as well on that front. Some of Deanna's behaviors didn't match up from one moment to the next. Is she well, or is she unwell? Her thoughts and habits lead me to believe unwell in every sense of the word. Just because Deanna might have changed her behavior and chosen to do something good for another person, this does not mean that it would flip her switch and make her a "safe" human being again. Jessica's transformation back to the Deanna side was unrealistic in every way, and handled irresponsibly. Given all that we'd seen of Jessica/Deanna, there's no good reason why she should be out walking around in society again without any supervision.

Basically, there wasn't enough information given at the end to show us which direction this woman was headed in next, other than insinuating that she'd figure it out in some way. And I didn't like that, given where she'd come from. If this person was real, I'd still consider her a loose cannon who needed a lot of help - something that she couldn't get from having a boyfriend and an internet shrink alone.

"Sex is the great amateur art." David Cort

A Male Perspective on Agoraphobic Internet Sex Operator

In a quick scan of other reviews I see I'm maybe the only guy writing a review. Almost all others were penned by women, many of whom (I note) have written reviews of novels in the "erotica" genre, a type I've not yet read. While my gender and heterosexuality lend no extra credence to my review, the combo may provide a potential reader at least a different perspective.

THE GIRL IN 6E is a 4 star suspense novel that kept me spellbound, boiling and bothered. A.R. Torre's writing made the Girl in 6E, the protagonist Internet sex operator Jess/Deanna, come to life before my internal dilated pupils, dry mouth and accelerating heartbeat.

While certain aspects of this book appear to border on fantasy, and I would have liked to explore further the Girl's character, this book was gripping fun, a frisky tryst from some heavier lit on the market, as suspenseful as today's typical fare in the genre and certainly much more rousing.

Ms. Torre changed her name to "A.R." from Alessandra for this book, ostensibly so it would not be viewed as purely in the erotica genre (like her last several novels). This is not erotica, though I am guessing it has a number of the same elements. Ms. Torre's future is in the bright lights if she can continue the hard task of blending erotica into suspense.

This was SO GOOD! I had a few issues with the first half of the book where the character would repeat things that she'd already told us and there were super random chapters that were shoved in to give her backstory that didn't flow with the rest of the story, but when I got halfway through, I couldn't put the book down. I was SO hooked and I just had to know what happened! I can't wait to continue on with the series!

I finally bought myself a copy of The Girl in 6E after lusting after it for some time, I did have a bit of cover love, I have to admit, but it was they synopsis that sucked me in. I love it when you read a blurb and know it's just different to anything else you have read lately. A game changer, that is what this was and I really enjoyed the journey.

Deanna Madden, aka Jessica Reilly, hasn't touched another person in three years. She hasn't left her apartment. She makes money from performing to webcams on a sex site.

But WHY doesn't she leave her apartment, what's the catch?

I liked Deanna (Jessica) straight away, whilst living not the normal lifestyle, she has her own reasons for it, basically if she sees a person she gets an overwhelming urge to kill, she won't even open the door to collect a parcel and a neighbour locks her in at night so she is not tempted to go out on a killing spree. I thought she would make a cool friend, or then maybe not.

She is super successful in the world of sex cam performing, she struts her stuff via camera, via the internet, safely in her room to paying customers, all wanting different things from just a chat to things that might make you feel a little bit sick. She's number 3, she's worked hard and earned a lot of money, but she is one isolated chick. For a lot of the first part of the book it's very character centric on Deanna. We get to know her pretty well.

When she hears of a young girl that has been abducted she has a puzzle piece click in the brain with a client who has some darker requests than some and for the first time in years she leaves the apartment, on a mission, to find the girl and save her. And she doesn't go alone.

I loved this part, she has been totally locked away for years but throws herself back into the world, where everything is still the same, but many things have changed. She eats an awful lot of junk food in a big binge, but that doesn't go down terribly well.

She is a character of light and shade, certainly darkness within, her desire and ability to kill is not questioned BUT when certain people cross her path and she begins to realise that perhaps she can have friendship without wanting to kill them it becomes an internal struggle.

The book held my interest from the start with a tight plot, interesting characters, and a pace that builds up until you are running full speed with Deanna on her quest to save a little girl. What happens from there I can't tell you, but it's good, really good and I highly recommend for a really entertaining read. I can't wait to read the second book to see how Deanna has developed as a character.

So it did not let me down, I whizzed through it and did not miss a beat. This one gets 4 happy paws from the Booklover Catlady. I think this would appeal to most readers (unless you are a bit prudish about webcam sex scenes).

Tough, damaged, flawed and gritty character with a soft side that shines through now and then. Loved her.

“To the people I cam with, I am JessReilly19, a bubbly nineteen-year-old college student – a hospitality major – who enjoys pop music, underage drinking, and shopping. None of them really know the true me. I am who they want me to be, and they like it like that. So do I. Knowing the real me would be a bit of a buzzkill. The real me is Deanna Madden, whose mother killed her entire family, then committed suicide.”

After Deanna . . . ahem . . . finishes off her client (if you know what I mean) the book does proceed to thrillsville and we find out she works as a webcam girl due to the fact that she never leaves her apartment. Ever. Deanna has an obsession with death . . . she fantasizes about murdering anyone she comes into contact with, ergo she never allows herself to come into contact with others.

“I don’t mind being killer-crazy, but I don’t want to be loony-bin-crazy. That would probably be bad for business – a bit of a turnoff.”

Thanks to services such as free shipping from Amazon Prime (all hail almighty Amazon!) and prepackaged meals from Jenny Craig, Deanna can get anything she wants delivered straight to her door by her UPS man, Jeremy (who wishes she’d open the door for him just one time).

The poop really hits the fan when one of Jessica/Deanna’s cam clients starts getting a little too obsessed with having Jessica roleplaying the part of a young girl and she has to decide whether or not it’s time for her to finally open her door for the first time in three years . . .

That’s all you get. I’m not spoiling this one. If you dig dark reads and are looking for a serious psych thriller with some f*&^%d-up kinky romance thrown in to the mix, pick this one up. My local Book Pusher told me to and he didn’t steer me wrong.

WOW! This was definitely not my usual read but I have to say that I enjoyed every moment. This book grabbed me right from the beginning and kept my interest all the way through. I learned a thing or two about webcam sites and could tell that the author did extensive research in this area.

The heroine Deanna was like no other heroine I’ve ever read about. She had a horrific back story that made her into a very dark person. Despite all that, I LOVED her character. She did some amazing things by the end of the book that had me thinking HELL YEAH!

We really don’t get a chance to get to know the hero which is why I only gave him 3 stars, but I can honestly say what I did notice is that he was ABSOLUTELY YUMMY!! I really hope that he plays a huge part in the next book, Do Not Disturb which should be released on 4/21.

This was my first read by this author and I will definitely be reading more of her books. Do Not Disturb is a MUST read, I just have to find out what will happen next.

Interesting concept. Execution...

not so much.

DNF 60%

The writing felt forced, dialogue was sparse with pages and pages of inner monologues, and nothing happens for pretty much 50% of the story. The Girl in 6E is supposed to be a dark thriller and it only got the first half right. You get a lot about her internet sexcpades, homicidal tendencies, and not much else.

This is a book I've been meaning to read for years, so many of my book friends recommended it to me. I loved the concept of the book and how it sounded, but the execution...... not so much.

The two great things about this book are the concept and Torre's writing. My god, Torre is an amazing writer. She has a way with words unlike any other author I have seen in this genre. My problem with the book lay mostly with my own personal tastes, and the fact that the majority of the book just seemed to be different descriptions of sex cam scenarios and fetishes. Speaking of, when Torre did research for this book, her internet history must have been CRAZY.

After dnfing Black Lies by this author a couple years back, I had stayed away from her books thinking they weren't for me, and maybe they're not. I'm still gonna try her other stuff and see if maybe these two books were just flukes.

Anyways, I am obviously in the minority. Lots of people loved this book so don't let my review discourage you.

3.5 stars but I'm rounding it up to a 4 because man was this book enjoyable.

Erotic Thriller. A genre I thought I would never read. And yet, I've been hearing so many good things about this one that I just had the urge to pick it up. And I'm SO glad I did, it was the perfect book for me to read right now, with exams taking up 99% of my brain space.

The Girl in 6E is a story about a girl who locks herself up in an apartment - apartment 6E - because she has thoughts of murdering people and cannot control her urges. In order to make enough money, she has become a cam girl, and a very popular one at that.

It's definitely a very interesting premise and one of those books that just fly by; many readers would probably be able to read it in a day. I was always looking forward to picking it up and once I did I found I didn't want to stop. I was thoroughly engrossed and entertained all the way through. Also, I really liked the main character and enjoyed reading from her point of view.

Despite the fact that I enjoyed this book so much, I couldn't give it a higher rating because besides entertainment, it didn't offer me much else. It became repetitive after a while and there wasn't much more to the story than the immediate plot line. I wish mental health would have been explored more, though maybe the author will get deeper into that in the second book in the series. Also, I didn't like the buddying-sort-of romance present; the guy seemed flat and I found that part of the story to be quite unnecessary.

Overall however, I full-heartedly recommend this book to all kinds of readers (even if you think erotica isn't your thing, it's not my thing either), especially if you need something quick and easy to get you out of a reading slump. Be warned however, that this book contains both graphic sex and violence and that child molestation comes into play. So if either of these make you uncomfortable or are triggers, stay away.
