This is one of those books that will pull on your heart strings, and make you emotionally connect with it. And then simultaneously, it's one of the most gruesome horror books ever - the gore is insane and so gross and disturbing. I loved this so much, read it all in one day! I need to read more form this author!!!

I love books that follow writers, and I loved the atmosphere in this book of New York City and her taking on a job writing as a columnist for the newspaper. But there were about four "twists" at the end of this book, and I predicted every single thing that happened. It felt really obvious to me, and I wasn't sure why the main character wasn't picking up on what was happening, so that's a bummer.

It's kind of giving Under the Dome and Wandavision vibes. A street is haunted and inaccessible to the rest of the world, and only three women are still able to visit the street they grew up on. I was HERE for the sapphic relationship explored in this book, oh my god they were so cute, I would read an entire separate romance book written about these two, they had me so smitten. I also thought some of the ideas in this book were so COOL, omg it got so twisty in ways I wasn't expecting, and I loved that. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is because the ending started to feel like it was getting a little repetitive, and some scenes with the flashbacks were a little confusing.

I ended up really connecting with the characters and ending was really interesting too, I felt a lot of sympathy for the protagonist with making hard decisions. I also loved the slow burn romance as she started to fall for her husband in the future and bond with her children, I thought it was so sweet.

This had all the nostalgia of 80's horror films. I love how it simultaneously feels like the cheesy horror movies of that time, but also addresses very serious and realistic horror like addiction and dementia. All the characters were so interesting and well fleshed out, and the ending was perfect, I loved it so much.

I loved Sally's character, she was so interesting to read about and not only her perspective, but a second perspective in this book that got explored was my favorite. These characters were soooo fascinating and felt so real. There were so many shocking scenes, especially in the second half, I was GLUED to the page, I couldn't put it down.
I included this book and one other in a Patreon exclusive vlog, where I talk about spoilers for this one and get deep into my thoughts about it, you can see it here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/106214157...more

Margo's character was really interesting to follow, even though I didn't always agree with her decisions. I don't necessarily care to read stories about the struggling single mother, but the OnlyFans storyline kept me so invested and intrigued. I like the social commentary on doing something like OnlyFans and how people perceive you in a certain way, and the difference between men and women doing sex work, and how society is so much harsher on women, it was interesting. I thought the ending was good, but I wanted a harder emotional punch, I guess. The audiobook was great though, it's narrated to Elle Fanning so that was really cool! Ahhh, I was not expecting to love this the way that I did. I read this for a video where my subscribers recommend me books, they think I'd give 5 starAhhh, I was not expecting to love this the way that I did. I read this for a video where my subscribers recommend me books, they think I'd give 5 stars, and I'm so glad I read this book for that video because they were right. This book is everything I love in a story -- it's so thought provoking and interesting, it has great characters, and we follow so many, but I felt so connected to all of them. It also mostly takes place in New York which I also love.
The concept in this book is wildly fascinating, I could read several books that take place in this world. Everyone gets a box with a string that determines how long they have left to live. I love how so many different and unique situations are explored, and anything you can think of that could happen is also explored. I love how it shows how it affects people in relationships and families and how it affects politics and different countries, it was all so interesting.
The ending was a little predictable and yet I still cried. It got me right in the feels. Here's the reading vlog where I read it: https://youtu.be/ih5PqBZIseI...more
I am so shocked that I ended up enjoying this book as much as I did! I haven't really enjoyed any books I've read from this author, but I was hearing I am so shocked that I ended up enjoying this book as much as I did! I haven't really enjoyed any books I've read from this author, but I was hearing great things about this one, so I decided to give it a go, and I'm so glad I did! This book was so fun and such a quick read. I love getting all 3 siblings POV's, their relationship was toxic but interesting and complicated, they had a lot of history there and haven't spoken in years. We also get their Mom's POV from back in the 90's, which I also really liked. I was invested in the mystery of this book, and I was pretty surprised by some things that happened at the end, I didn't see it coming and I really loved the final chapter of this book. I also liked that this book had less romance and felt a little more serious in tone than the other books I've read from this author.

When I saw the synopsis said Schitts Creek meets The Bear, I got very excited and honestly, this book delivered on that. I LOVE that it takes place in a small town in Oregon in the PNW, I love that it's a next door neighbors kind of romance. I love that Fisher is a really well-respected chef from NYC, he definitely reminded me of Jeremy Allen White's character from The Bear, and the small town in Oregon was giving all the Schitts Creek vibes. I love how Fisher is taking care of his niece, and he's her guardian now, their relationship was insanely cute.
There were so many moments this book that actually made me laugh out loud, it was f*cking hilarious. I loved these two characters, Sage and Fisher had such great chemistry. It's rare that I actually enjoy reading the steamy scenes in romance books, but like low key some of these scenes had me blushing and shit like they were so hot together. I annotated and tabbed the hell out of my copy haha, like I can see myself rereading this in the future. My only *small* complaint is that I wanted even more scenes of Fisher actually cooking, I feel like I didn't get enough of that in this book haha but otherwise it's perfect!
I'll definitely have to check out more books from this author after loving this one as much as I did! ...more

I have loved so manyCloser to 3.5 stars Sorry to come on here with a slightly unpopular opinion, but I didn't love this book as much as I expected to. I have loved so many books from Kristin Hannah, so I assumed this one would be the same, but there were a few reasons this book didn't work for me.
For some reason, I found it hard to connect with Frankie as a protagonist, I feel like there wasn't much more to her character other than being a nurse. It just kind of felt like she lacked a personality most of the time. This book is really dark and sad and hard to read (obviously because it's about war) and this is definitely a me-thing, I just don't love reading about war in historical fiction, it's so hard to stomach and knowing people actually experienced this shit makes it harder. I respect what this book stands for and that it acknowledges the unique struggles women faced during this time -- but it was also really difficult to read at times.
I also was not a fan of any of the romance happening in this book. So many times, I was cringe-ing and wondering why, I just couldn't get invested in the romances. And it took up so much of the story, especially in the second half. Most of the ending I appreciated, and thought was really beautiful, but there was one scene I was like.... are you fucking serious. I just felt like I couldn't suspend my disbelief that many times.
