Heiress Takes All

Rate this book
The Inheritance Games meets Ocean's 11 in this thrilling YA adventure about a teenager determined to pull off the perfect heist in the midst of her father’s wedding.

Seventeen-year-old Olivia Owens isn't thrilled that her dad's getting remarried...again. She's especially not thrilled that he cheated on her mom, kicked them out of their Rhode Island home, and cut Olivia out of her rightful inheritance.

But this former heiress has a plan for revenge. While hundreds of guests gather on the grounds of the gorgeous estate where she grew up, everyone will be thinking romance—not robbery. She’ll play the part of dutiful daughter, but in reality she’ll be redistributing millions from her father’s online accounts. She only needs the handwritten pass code he keeps in the estate's safe.

With the help of an eclectic crew of high school students and one former teacher, Olivia has plotted her mid-nuptial heist down to the second. But she didn't plan for an obnoxiously nosy wedding guest, an interfering ex-boyfriend intent on winning her back, greedy European cousins with their own agenda, or a vengeful second wife. When everything seems like it's going wrong, Olivia has to keep her eyes on what really matters: getting rich. And when she’s done, “something borrowed” will be the understatement of the year.

As a devoted fan of the duo (not only writing partners but also a real-life couple), I’m delighted to see them return to the young adult genre and create a fast-paced, highly entertaining high school crew version of an Ocean's 11 heist adventure, complete with vivid, varied supporting characters and a second chance love story.

I acknowledge that there are many silly moments in this book, and some of the twists are foreseeable from the beginning. There are also times when Olivia and Jackson’s sweet love story slows down the action scenes, and incidents in the book are hurled at us too quickly before we can fully absorb them, leading us into another action-packed sequence. Despite these faults, I still loved this book: it’s easy to read, with short chapters that keep your curiosity piqued, and the character development is still strong. Olivia is a determined, tough, and smart heroine that you easily root for, and Jackson steals scenes with his sweetness as he does everything in his power to win back his girl. I enjoyed their chemistry and banter, as well as the seamless introduction of characters and direction of the heist, which are told without dragging and without losing the reader's interest.

The main story revolves around Olivia Owens, who is kicked out of her Rhode Island house with her mother when their father decides to start another family with his mistress. This means war! Olivia is determined to get her share of the inheritance, which means she’s not going to steal, but she’s going to take what she deserves from her father’s accounts. To achieve her plan, she gathers her own Ocean’s 11 crew: a group of high school friends (most of whom are male, and I wish there were more female members to create subplots of love interest and conflicts) and a former teacher. But, of course, she didn’t plan on the involvement of her ex-lover, who may have cheated on her and is now trying to win her back, a bunch of European cousins who may ruin her plans, and a vindictive second wife who could turn into a wild card! Olivia has to keep her eyes on the prize to get her deserved share, but there are many additional obstacles to her plan that she needs to face. Can her team finish the job they started? Will justice be served fairly this time around?

Overall, I’m rounding up my rating from 3.5 stars to 4 stars for this very enjoyable, riveting, action-packed young adult romance! I especially recommend it to fans of the author duo!

Manipulation
Cheating
Divorce

I love the concept, but the execution not so much.

THIS WAS MESSY

TOM WAS THE BEST CHARACTER

I feel like our main girl was childish, but also spoke like a 30 year old sometimes?
She had a moment where she said she wished her parents were still together but I feel at some point, with all you know, how could you wish that? Even with all the money.

Our FMC was sooo confident and in charge of her master heist plan, but just in case you were curious, the majority of her 'research' was watching Ocean's 11 multiple times. I honestly wish I could be that confident from watching a movie about something.

Kevin was a whole story line which actually might have been the best part somehow?
All the others on the team just there? they were convenient.
Jackson - what can I say about him... I feel like he was too good for her but he was also blind and maybe even a bit obsessed with her - "he looked at her endearingly", "he worked for months to buy the Adidas shoes I wanted".

I'm a firm believer in silly, fun books. They have a lot of charm and are easily digestible between serious, lengthy novels. Heiress Takes All fits perfectly in that category.

Olivia's father is the textbook definition of a deadbeat dad. Fortunately, he's a rich deadbeat dad. Olivia is hellbent on revenge after he screwed her and her mom over. The perfect opportunity drops into her lap: her dad's marriage to his mistress. She assembles a crew to steal millions of dollars from her dad. But, nothing goes to plan, especially as her ex-boyfriend keeps getting in the way.

Again, this book is just so much fun. It starts fast and resumes that breakneck speed. Olivia is a high-strung untrusting MC. She's quick on her feet and changes her plans as more and more things go wrong. Her crew was easy to distinguish

I had to suspend my disbelief from the beginning. Immediately, there were plot holes and questions swept to the side for the book to work. I had to ignore these things for the book's ending to work. I didn't mind, since the authors weren't going for a complicated, serious heist.

There were too many twists for my taste. While they kept the book entertaining, it was too much. The twists formed several subplots and mysteries that were hard to track as the authors built the story. Two subplots kept my attention, but I'm guilty of tuning out the rest.

I didn't expect the emotional turmoil Olivia would go through. Between crazy plot twists, Olivia grapples with her complicated feelings about her dad. She struggles with anger at how he's treated her, and the shame of still wanting him to be proud. The trauma and mistrust he's caused carry over to all of her relationships, especially with her ex. Usually, I don't like romantic subplots, but here it worked. It was integral to Olivia's character arc and coming to terms with her trauma.

If you want something light-hearted, and crazy with a feel-good ending, this is a great one to pick up! Just be ready to ignore some obvious plot holes from the get-go.

“Heiress Takes All” is an adventurous YA mystery / thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed. Light easy, entertaining read for teens, YA and adults alike.

The first chapter had me hooked, we see our FMC racing through a mansion whilst being chased down by guards, and just as we think she has found an escape an unknown persons crashes the party.

Then we flash back to what brought our heroine to these circumstances and learn all about her plot to run a heist with the goal of stealing millions of dollars from her awful father with the help of her group of trusty misfits, each with a unique sets of skills.

We also have some romantic tension and chemistry with the likes of her steamy ex boyfriend, Family feuds with her cousins and step mothers and lots of twists and action.

I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, this is the perfect pallet cleanser if you’re looking to take a break with a not-so-serious, humorous and adventurous read.

The only flaw I found was that the book did seem to lose steam for me after the first half, however I liked the way everything tied together at the end with one extra surprise twist and an open minded conclusion with a wholesome feel.

Thank you to Emily Wibberley, Austin Siegemund-Broka, Little brown books for young readers and NetGalley for the EARC!

Dnf @ 55%.

Finishing this feels like getting out of a quicksand. It’s hard. The authors just kept on adding and adding additional storylines/twists which got me so bored already. I understand the book needs it to make it interesting as I go along but why am I still bored? Lol. The only part that I like about this book is Kevin. He’s much more interesting than the main character, Olivia. He’s the only one that’s keeping me entertained throughout the book.

Love me a good heist story!

I loved this! I’ve read all of this author duo’s books and this is definitely one of my favorites of theirs. I’m a big fan of heist stories anyway, so the premise got my attention.

The story follows Olivia, who, with the help of a team she has assembled, is attending her father’s wedding — to steal his fortune.

I love the urgency of a heist story. The need to plan for every contingency and the need to trust in the team. I was on the edge of my seat to see everything come together.

This book has a very fun cast of characters. I had no difficulty keeping them straight in my head because they all had totally different personalities and traits. I also loved the chess nicknames. They were so clever and fun! I would have to say, McCoy and Kevin stole the show for me. I loved both of them so much.

I wasn’t expecting the book to be as funny as was. A lot of times, heist stories and be tense and serious, and this one was at times, but there were also so many humorous moments and I laughed aloud quite a few times.

Both hilarious and heartfelt, with a cute romance and an engaging cast of characters, this was an excellent heist story. I can’t wait for the sequel! (Please????)

Olivia gets a crew together to plan and execute a heist. The target? Her lying, cheating, deadbeat dad who is also a zillionaire, and about to marry his latest mistress.

I hoped it would be funnier, but given the subject--a rotten excuse for a parent--I ought to have expected a lot of emotional fallout, which are well described. And that's kind of the point of the book, rather than the heist, which works because the author is shaping the story. There is also romance; a fun read for a certain mood, but not a *funny* one.

This was such a fun YA heist novel!!! Full of twists and an ending I didn't see coming. Ocean's Eleven meets The inheritance games in this latest from married couple Emily Wibberly and her husband that sees a teen girl plotting revenge against her rich father with a group of misfit friends. Good on audio and perfect for fans of Holly Jackson and Jennifer Lynn Barnes. I can't wait to read the next book in this new series that is now my favorite by these authors!!

tl;dr
A fast-paced heist plot stitched into a lot of complicated family drama.

Thoughts
If you like your heists with a side of ~drama~, this one's for you. We've got messy parental relationships, squabbling extended family, blackmail, and dash of a love triangle to round it all out. Olivia Owens used to live a life of luxury - full of money, and devoid of meaning. This all changes when her mother divorces her cheating father, and she's left hanging in in the void between them. Kicked out of her family home, and with a mother struggling to make end's meet, she decides to get revenge by stealing millions of dollars from her father, all in the middle of his wedding to his third wife. She cobbles together a group of skilled teens (and one out-of-luck teacher) for her crew, puts together a very serviceable plan, and gets to work. The crew members are all fun and well-written with strong personalities and reasons of their own to be in this caper. I always like the actor character, so Tom is my instant fave, but they're all great. So great that Olivia somehow winds up being the one with the least to go on. She describes herself as determined, but all flashbacks portray her as somewhat directionless, with no clear path to how she became who she is. She researches thoroughly, masterminds a plan, and then doesn't include any fallbacks or contingencies for the complications that inevitably arise. Her motivations never fully hit sympathetically relatable, or ruthlessly entertaining, hovering somewhere between the two. She spends a lot of time pretending to be the girl the tabloids expect her to be, and very little being herself. I can't tell who she really is at all. Maybe she can't either. The book ends as a fairly comfortable oneshot. The door's open just enough that a sequel could happen, but the ending is satisfying enough that it doesn't need more.

I’ve read all the books by this author duo and I honestly never thought they would write a heist book, but they pulled it off so perfectly!

Heiress Takes All was such a joy to read from beginning to end. It was full of twists and turns and I loved every second of it. The stakes were pretty high and each of the characters had something to gain/lose with the heist. I was immediately immersed in the story and anxiously waiting to see if they could pull off stealing millions of dollars.

The protagonist Olivia definitely had a Type A personality. She was smart, analytical and liked to be in control as much as possible. These are great qualities to have as the leader of a heist. But she also had insecurities and questioned whether she was deserving of love. She felt guilty for a lot of things, especially her parents’ divorce, which was something that was 100% not her fault. I loved the growth she had throughout the book. She starts to recognize her self-worth and how much of a douche her father was.

The book had a great group of supporting characters as well. I adored Jackson and his unwavering love for Olivia. The banter and yearning between them was amazing. I was definitely rooting for them. The rest of the crew was equally interesting. Tom was another one of my favorites. He was just so funny. And even Kevin, who I had a love hate relationship with at the beginning of the book (I mean how was this guy just everywhere at all times!?!), I grew to care and root for.

All in all, I adored this book and I would highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the mood for a thrilling YA novel!

Thank you to the authors for sending me a physical ARC in exchange for an honest review!

"I guess what I'm saying is....hold your grudge. Get your vengeance. Wonderful, as long as it's not...against yourself."

This was a really fun read. I picked it up based on the comparison to the Inheritance Games, and while I don't know that it completely reaches that level, anyone who loved those books is going to enjoy this one too.

Seventeen year old Olivia Owens needs money. Cast out of her extremely rich father's house after her parents' divorce, she's gone from private schools and designer couture to public school and a minimum wage job. Desperate both to help her mom pay off mountains of medical debt and to get revenge on her slimy, cheating dad, Olivia carefully cultivates a group of individuals from her new life and plots to steal millions during her father's upcoming wedding to bride #3. But she's not the only one headed to the wedding with an agenda, and it's going to take everything she has to make it out unscathed.

Was this book particularly realistic? Definitely not. Was it still a good time even with all the ridiculousness? Absolutely. The plot for this one is one twist after the other - some of which I called, many of which I didn't - so it's a quick read (I finished in about a day and a half). The heist team had some pretty lovable characters, so it wasn't hard to root for them. Olivia reminded me of Veronica Mars a little bit - smart, sarcastic, underestimated due to her appearance, and all-in when it comes to getting even with those who have wronged her. I had Vector from Despicable Me in my head for Kevin at the beginning (and still a little at the end too) but he grows on you. I've never read anything by this author team before, but after this I'll need to give their other books a try.

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is AMAZING for fans of “The Inheritance Games” by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, “Theives’ Gambit” by Kayvion Lewis, and the “Oceans 11” movie.

Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka have managed the genre-shift masterfully with this book! (They have only published both YA and Adult romances, but this is YA mystery). Along with romance, their specialty, “Heiress Takes All” brings readers on a ride of revenge, heists, and female rage. Wibbroka never ceases to keep me intrigued, but this book was a whole new level, with the added suspense and mystery of the genre shift!! The plot twists had me SO SHOOK!! Everything was so intricately woven together!! I’m betting they had some sort of cork board with strings thing each character and event together. I truly felt like I was watching a movie in my head while reading this! Not only was the mystery element fantastic, but they still had some juicy romance and AMAZING friendships and found family aspects. All of the side characters were so vibrant, unique, lovable, and make the most unlikely, yet perfect, group! My favorite character being Kevin, for reasons that will be obvious when you read it.

In general, they deserve much more hype on all of their books!! Truly, top-tier authors. They can do no wrong in my eyes. This book continues their perfect 5⭐️ record. Out of the 5 books of theirs I have read so far (out of 10, the rest are on my TBR) all have been no less than perfection and a complete joy.

I am so unbelievably honored to be the first person, besides their editor, to read this book!! When Emily told me that, I was SHOOK. What is my life??? How did this happen?? (However that does not mean that in any way influenced my review, I am a very critical reviewer and these were my 100% genuine thoughts). I am not worthy!! I already preordered a finished copy!! I’m so excited for the world to experience this story.

Let me start by saying that I completely saw Olivia as Parker from Leverage as a teenager and I loved it, if you have no idea what I'm talking about that's ok.

The idea behind this book had me intrigued and I wanted to to get sucked in, and at moments I did but there were moments that were just hard for me to get through.

While I loved the story, the plotting, the theft, the relationship with Olivia and her group of teenage (and a sort of ex-teacher) theives that ending just kind of ruined it for me.

I have to say I will always be honest in my reviews and I have to say if I could give this one 3.5 stars I would so I'll be rounding up to 4 stars for review purposes.

This was so much fun! A group of teens plan to steal millions at a wedding and chaos ensues.

I loved the characters in this, they were funny and smart and mismatched in a way that helped the crew come together to make this plan work. The pacing is quick and there were a couple times I chuckled at the antics, especially parts with a certain "Assface" involved.

This was a hit for me and I hope others will check it out!

This was so fun and full of twists!

If I had to describe this quickly (and badly), just would say that this is about a girl with deep seeded rich daddy issues who plans a heist with her friends and a teacher to steal millions from her father. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Olivia’s dad is a terrible man who cheated on her mother and when she told her mom, he kicked them out of the house basically leaving them with nothing. Olivia’s mom then gets into a car accident which she survives, but the medical bills pile up. Years later, fed up and wanting to get revenge on her father, Olivia puts a crew together to steal 5 million dollars from her father during his third wedding. Can they pull it off or will they get found out?

I really liked the characters in this for the most part. Olivia kind of rubbed me the wrong way. I think she was a bit more vindictive than she wanted to admit. However, I thoroughly enjoyed most of the other characters. With the teacher though, like sir, what were you doing there? Even with the explanation, it seemed a little far fetched. Besides that, I also enjoyed the thrown in romance aspect of it. Olivia was told her boyfriend was cheating on her and he tries to get her back. I actually liked how that all turned out.

Overall, this was fun and filled with twists at every turn that kept it exciting! I love the idea of a heist ran by teenagers-very “Catch That Kid” and I was here for it. This was also compared to Inheritance Games and I did get that feel! If you’re looking for a fast paced and thrilling, this is the book for you!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book!

Socialite and heiress Olivia has been all but disowned by her wealthy father as he moves on with his new wife. However, she has a plan for revenge - she's going to use the distraction of his wedding to rob him of millions.

This was a cute, easy read. Some parts of the heist were weak or implausible, but overall the vibe was fun. I did rather enjoy the ending in particular, and the element of found family.

Ok look, maybe it’s because I’m in a reading slump right now but why is this book SO lame. I read this in like three days and I was soooo bored I’m not even putting a lot of thought into this review, and the thing is I feel guilty giving this book 2.5 stars because I wasn’t even like hating on the book when reading it’s just the book started right when the heist was about to begin and that fucking made me want to cry. I LOVE heist books I really do but when it happens the day of the heist it just really deflates(?) the excitement and the buildup of the heist, like the recruiting people and shit we got to see NONE OF THAT. anywho I’m not even going to do a character part to this so let’s be quick. I felt no connection to the characters, I wasn’t excited or felt anything the whole book, and I hated the second chance romance. The romance fell so flat and also them getting back together was also so fucking like ugh I don’t know how to explain it but not it. Honestly, Olivia had so much more chemistry with Tom and they spoke in ways where I was like ouuu something is definitely happening with them but she just went back to boring Jackson. Also it felt like the authors were just making shit happen to make the book longer and I was so done with that. So much unecessary stuff happened ugh I’m done goodnight.

5 Reasons to Read

Heists

This book was so much fun! Very reminiscent of an Ocean’s 11 movie. What would you do if your millionaire dad just dropped you from the family one day as if you didn’t exist? Why not take his money? And at his next wedding for that matter? That is exactly what Olivia has been planning to do for months! She may not be an heiress anymore but she’s not going to let that stop her from taking back what she’s owed!

Family Drama

Olivia’s father would never win father of the year. Olivia had a difficult time trying to make him love her and finally realizes it’s just not possible. Now he’s getting married for the second time since divorcing her mom and she’s decided it’s time to get back at him for all the years he treated her and her mom like they didn’t exist. She’s not the only family in attendance at the wedding though, and she ends up learning much more about the family she never really felt like she fit into.

Secrets & Blackmail

The heist was going as planned until things weren’t. Olivia finds her plan falling apart quickly when she walks into her father’s study and see’s someone she’d never thought she’d see again. With cryptic messages from her cousin and the name of someone she’s never heard before found in her father’s study, Olivia is starting to realize there are many more secrets than she’d anticipated. Now other people are popping up in her way as she’s trying to pull off this heist and some of them are willing to blackmail Olivia to get a piece of the pie.

Teamwork

Olivia brings quite the band of misfits together to implement The Plan. It was fun learning how she identified each person to play which role in her master plan. It helps having two lives, one rich and one poor, to pull people from. Each has a motive for money and by the end of the book there’s additional players on the chess board and the motives have gone beyond just hitting her dad financially.

Plot Twists

I enjoyed the end of this one. There were so many little twists and turns from beginning to end. It was great seeing how with each piece of Olivia’s plan fell apart, she was able to redirect in the moment. She was determined to complete her plan and make her father pay. This will keep you on your toes from beginning to end all why you’re having fun! I hope we get to see more heists from Emily and Austin in the future!

It wasn't just a simple heist and Olivia's dad is not just a simple rich annoying guy. He has a couple of dark secrets of his own and Olivia is going to steal it along with his money 🙌

Not just the suspense of a heist going, the side second chance romance plot is also delightful to see.
It’s interesting to see Olivia’s relationship with her father and watching her character grow throughout the story.
I like seeing the unexpected friendship Olivia formed with her crew members.
My favorite member would be Kevin, he really liven up the story and I have to admit he was pretty smart too!

The ending feels quite satisfying with a couple of twists thrown there but things look far from over based on Olivia's dad last words.
I really hope this get a sequel or form a series because I would like to get back with the funny gang again 🙌🙌 and maybe planning another heist 👀👀

Overall, it’s an entertaining and enjoyable read, it’s perfect for teens!
If you like reading a YA story about scheming, romance, secrets, families and revenge then this book might be for you!
I’m looking forward for the next book by this author in the future!🥰

Thank you to TBR and Beyond Tour, Netgalley, author and publisher for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!
