SQUEEEE!!! OMG I have so many feels for this book!!!!!

Everything about this story was beautiful!! ♥♥♥

It me cry, laugh, swoon and fan myself and honestly, I just loved it all!!

This is a spoiler-free review. 4.5 - 5 stars.

“The thing about falling in love so that no matter where you are when it happens, you can’t help but to color those moments with beauty, even if you’re in a location of ugliness. He made what would have been a place of nightmares into a place to dream.”

Second-chance love stories are my favorite but one’s with a cool twist are just a bonus. This is the kind of book that makes you want to re-read it, or at least certain parts of it. There is just so much to the story that you can only fully appreciate after having gone through all the big reveals… and knowing them just gives so much *more* to the story, so it’s going on my re-read pile for sure

Now, I know it’s only 192 pages long but honestly, it didn’t feel short at all. The story was never rushed and the ending wrapped up beautifully with a happy-tear-enducing epilogue. And sometimes you just WANT a really wonderful book that you can read in one sitting, you know?

The story starts out in a flashback. Evie is 14, Leo is 15. They met in the first foster home they were placed and became the best of friends. They relied on each other, bonded, and as they grew older, that developed into love. He was “the boy who makes me want to stay awake because reality is finally better than my dreams.”

But when Leo gets adopted by a family across the country, they are forced apart. They make vows and he promises to come back for her when they turn 18… but that is the last time she sees him.

Eight years later, Evie has forged a life for herself. Despite having grown up in a life without family, filled with drugs, molestation and bad memories, she is strong, self sufficient and has gotten a job, a little home for herself, and generally has everything under control. She has moved on from the hurt of her past but has never forgotten what she felt for Leo. So when a guy shows up one day who says that Leo sent him to check on her, it just throws her world. She feels pulled towards him somehow but there is something mysterious about him and his connection to Leo… and she has to decide whether or not she can trust him…

I was feeling the emotion right from the start of the book. By page 2, I already wanted to cry. The first scene of the book, which was also the scene of their first kiss/goodbye when Leo got adopted just made my heart HURT even though I barely knew them… definitely one of the most beautifully written first kisses ever!!

“I’m going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it’s going to mean that you’re mine. I don’t care how far away we are from each other. You. Are. Mine. I’ll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me…”

If that quote doesn’t make you want to read the book, I don’t know what will! From that line on, I was hooked! ♥

I loved the writing. It drew you right into the story and I felt totally connected to everything that happened. It was fast paced without being rushed and flowed very smoothly. It slowed down in the important parts of the scene but I loved that the story was constantly moving forward and adding more pieces to the puzzle.

It was told in back and forth flashbacks and present day…. but with the way the story was woven, it left me unable to put it down. I alternated between heart clenching during the flashbacks and swooning over the present day parts.

I have to say though that I read with a complete mixture of swoon and suspicion. I *knew* something was up, I just KNEW it but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. I had theories and it kept me guessing….

And so when the big reveal happened, I had to read it twice. The first time was just in shock (call me naive but I did not see it coming!) and I just got these huge chills and shivers and had to stop and go back and read that page again and then I just started to cry. Oh. My. God…. incredible scene!!!!

I just looooved the twist! It explained and connected everything perfectly! But then… hmmm once the full explanation came out, I had to think a little about how that made me feel about the character. But the more I read, the more understanding I became. It didn’t make what happened okay in my eyes, but people make mistakes and they mess up. Nobody is perfect. And if they get to a point where you kind of have to choose to accept them or not and there was no doubt in my eyes that I wanted to accept.

I also wanted to add in that, despite the fact that this story is told from Evie’s POV, the author has an awesome way of describing the male characters in these little subtle ways (narrowing of the eyes, clenching of the jaw, raking a hand through the hair… ) that just added extra yum to them and I found myself reading a lot with a little half smile on my face.

I’d classify this book somewhere between New Adult and Adult, maybe closer to adult. There is certainly steam and there are several hot hot hot scenes that are rather descriptive so that’s what’s leaning me towards Adult. That being said, I thought the steam was very well done because the story took the time to FIRST develop the connection with the characters so that by the time they got into bed, you were feeling emotionally connected to them.

The ending is fully resolved and very swoony. No cliffhanger, guys!!!

And, as a bonus, we get an absolutely gorgeous epilogue. Seriously, bless the hearts of every author who writes an epilogue. If I could hug them all, I would. That extra piece to the story just adds that last little bit that puts your heart to rest about the future of the characters you’ve fallen in love with. And this epilogue was particularly heart melting – it was the perfect conclusion to their story.

Overall, LEO is a beautiful, well-written, swoony and emotional read with steam, a bit of mystery and a happy ending ♥

“I can’t make the fire go away,” she had seemed to say. “I can’t guarantee you won’t get burned. But… I can remain steady and strong, because I believe in you. Because you are mine.”

I’d highly recommend it and am adding it to my list of Best Books of 2013.

4.5 – 5 stars.

Leo (Sign of Love #1) by Mia Sheridan had a great premise based on the blurb. It’s what I guess you would call a New Adult featuring a twenty-two year old woman named Evie who survived the horrors of foster care and has made a wonderful life for herself, but is still stuck on the young boy who made her feel special and not so alone. Evie first fell in love with Leo, who promised to keep in touch (he’s adopted at fifteen and moves across country) and come for her when she turns eighteen so they can be together forever. Leo was her protector and her soul mate, or so we’re led to believe from the beginning when Evie is fourteen and Leo is fifteen. Promises are made and kisses are exchanged. And then it’s eight years later and Evie is all alone. Leo disappeared ad was never heard from again.

Evie was able to get her GED, finds work as a maid in a hotel and as a part time server for caterer. She has her own apartment and is making ends meet the best she can. She still wonders what happened to Leo and why he didn’t keep his promise to her. One day she realizes she’s being watched, or stalked, as she comes to think of it. She confronts her “stalker”, who’s a pretty handsome guy named Jake and forgives him for freaking her out. It appears Jake once knew Leo, who he has died in a car accident. Evie is extremely saddened that Leo died and wishes she could have said her goodbyes to the boy she holds near and dear to her heart. But there’s Jake, who’s new to the area and makes her feel warm inside. At twenty-three Jake’s in charge of his recently deceased father’s company, drives a BMW, has money to burn and the GQ looks. Jake wants to get to know Evie better, and soon he’s whisking her away on dates and treating her like a princess. Evie isn’t sure about Jake, but he’s protective, nice and treats her well. He respects her and her past feelings for Leo, going as far to admit she’s a virgin because she promised Leo she would wait for him. But now that Leo’s gone and Jake is in her life, she lets the memory of Leo go and welcomes Jake fully. She gives her body, heart and soul to this prince charming. But things seem too good to be true with Jake, and when she finds out what he’s hiding, she’s destroyed because has hew too good to be true lover has been lying to her all this time.

Leo has a great beginning which crashes and burns immediately. This book is ridiculous to the point I was rolling my eyes throughout. It’s obvious this is a first time novel by Mia Sheridan because she makes all the mistakes a first time writer makes. Right from the start we have a massive amount of info dumping that doesn’t let up. Evie, the main protagonist is a stereotypical, been there, done that goodie goody who acts much younger than she is. Jake is only a year older than her and acts twice his age. What red blooded twenty-three year old male, regardless of their social status calls a woman a “minx” after they make love? Also Jake’s personality is all over the place. One moment he’s this alpha male, the next this self conscious, anxious young man that comes out of nowhere. Speaking of stereotypical characters, there’s a token sassy gay friend for Evie I found insulting (has it become a trope in New Adult to have a stereotypical sassy gay friend for the heroine?) and a skanky ex-girlfriend of Jake’s who warns Evie away from him, as well as Jake’s step-mother who’s a money grubbing, sexual piranha.

This book is one big cliché in every way. Also it has a big young adult tone, more so than an adult one (maybe because Evie acts more like a thirteen year old) but when it comes to the sex, and there’s plenty, it’s over the top cheesiness. I felt like I was reading the first draft of a letter to Penthouse. Words like “shaft”, “clit” and “white cum” were used along with over the top purple prose. This quickly morphs into erotica and really doesn’t fit at all. It makes for a very uncomfortable reading experience. By the middle of the book it was all sex and badly written sex at that. The dialogue Jake speaks while intimate with Evie had me giggling, and not because it was meant to be funny. The love scenes here would make most romance readers close the book in disgust. Seriously, if you’re going to insert love scenes into a book, I would hope you’ve done some type of research on what sex feels like and how it should be portrayed. I felt the love scenes were a mish-mash of various love scenes written in other books.

The mystery about Jake is very easy to figure out, and when he explains his past and his lies, that’s as comical as the cheesetastic sex he gives Evie. His story and how he turned out and why isn’t poignant or heartbreaking in any way.

Honestly, nothing about this book from the characters to the story feels realistic. It’s tripe and again full of clichés and reads more like an experiment from a first time writer who wanted to write an emotional, almost epic romance but failed in every way. How it sold enough copies to make the USA Today list last week is a big mystery to me because this book is far from anything worthwhile or spectacular.

A big pass on this one.

*ARC given to me by author in exchange for an honest review*

“And in the end, I had jumped. And the other side was just as glorious as her eyes had promised“

WOW WOW WOW 4.5 STARS!!!!!!

I must confess that I did not expect to love this book so much. In the beginning I had some trouble how the main female character takes slightly the idea of someone following her and not thinking that that is something you should report to police! But I was sucked into this story in a second!
I don't think there are many of books in which I love both main characters, usually SHE is annoying to me but this girl... i loved her from the beginning!
I must also admit that the style how it was written did remind me of KA's book CREED but honestly to me it was even better, much softer and CREED I really liked!

THE STORY

description

Evie and Leo met around age 10 in foster care, both having ugly childhood. Soon they become best friends and he becomes her protector. They plan leaving together when they both turn 18 but one day Leo gets adopted and moves to another city leaving her alone but promising her he will come back for her. She promises to wait but he doesn't come back to save her on her 18th birthday.

description

"I'm going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it's going to mean that you're mine. I
don't care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I'll wait for you. And I want you to
wait for me. Promise me you won't let anyone else touch you. Promise me you'll save yourself for me."

description

The story beginns with Evie realizing someone is stalking her for a week, having really bad childhood and learning how to survive on streets, she doesn't feel threatened and decides to confront her stalker.

And here enters JAKE MADSEN <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Four years after her 18th birthday she finds out that Leo died in a car accident a year ago, even though she doesn't want to feel the sorrow because he never wrote her in all those years, she can't help but feel betrayed...

description

Jake promised to Leo to check if she is alright and in the week he was following her he fell in love.

OMG!!! JAKE MADSEN!!!!! NOW THAT IS A NAME YOU WILL REMEMBER!!!

description

Jake is full of secrets from the beginning, even when he tells her something, he really does not say anything that she wants to know but the only thing that he tells her for sure is that he has every intent to make her his.

"Evie," he says quietly, finally looking at me, "What I mean is, when I fuck you, you're going to be mine. Is that clear enough for you?"

Jake as an 25 year old is extremely alpha and when you read about him you really don't have a feeling he is that young. He is very delicious, very mysterious, protective and possessive but every time the opportunity to destroy them as a couple knocks on their door he falls apart and you can see how much he is hurting and trying to tell her his dark secrets but doesn't know how to because with that he might loose her forever.

description

''He leans his forehead against mine and looks right into my eyes. There is an unreadable expression there and my heart starts to beat faster as we stare at each other, mere centimeters away. I don't know whether I'm scared or whether his closeness is causing my blood to pump faster. I don't know what I'm feeling in this moment, don't know whether I want to move even closer or pull away''

description

Now I must admitt that the hot parts with them were EXTREMELY HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

description

description

But to keep someone you want in your life, those secrets need to come out...
All you need to do is jump and have faith....

oh my goodness. what a tender story, one that really makes me believe in the goodness and beauty that can be found in humanity.

i had a great upbringing with two parents who loved me and made sure i had exactly what i needed, nothing more and nothing less. i went on to get a good education and currently have a job that i enjoy. my background couldnt be any more different than leo and evies. but if two people who have had to experience the crappy hand life has dealt them can still came out in the end full of love and compassion, well, then thats something to really admire.

i know this book is fiction, but their story is not. i believe that people have the capability to be never lose hope in the face of adversity, that kindness can be used as an effective coping mechanism, and that believing in someone (especially when they dont believe in themselves) is the kind of loyalty and support everyone deserves.

so dont let the cheesy outdated cover fool you because this story is sooo much more.

A lot, A LOT of things didn't work out for me in this one... I'm kinda shocked it's the same author that wrote Archer's voice and Kyland.... Extremely long rant ahead.

2 Stars:

I liked this book for the most part, I really did.. but the TWIST, the reason why he left her for 8 years and never spoke to her, DID NOT JUSTIFY ANYTHING. I was pissed.

IF I READ ANOTHER BOOK WHERE THE HEROINE IS COMPLETELY CELIBATE DURING A SEPARATION AND THE HERO LITERALLY WHORES AROUND, I WILL LITERALLY THROW MY KINDLE OUT OF MY WINDOW (ok not literally, but I think you guys understand my anger

Okay, let's start about what this is about. It starts quite beautifully as per usual with Mia Sheridan (whose books I LOVED previously). A young Evie and Leo meet throughout foster care. When Leo is 15, and Evie is 14, Leo is being adopted into a family, and he asks her to wait for him:

I'm going to kiss you now Evie, and when I do, it's going to mean that you're mine. I don't care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I'll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won't let anyone else touch you. Promise me you'll save yourself for me, and only me.

Fast forward 8 years, Evie hasn't heard from Leo once. Then, she meets a stranger, Jake, a guy who tells her Leo sent him to make sure Evie is okay. And from there, their romance begins.

Now, this 'romance', was WAY too unbelievable! She was celibate for 8 years as promised to Leo, hasn't done other sexual things as well, and by the second date, she immediately sleeps with Jake. Really, I mean you wait until you're 22 and you immediately sleep with Jake? I found that unbelievable.

Also, before she properly meets Jake, she knows he's been following her around, like a stalker. Now, I know it's fiction, but some reality is needed! As oppose to being freaked the hell out (specially cause the lock on her front gate is broken), she smiles when she sees him and is sad when he's not following her. Umm? That is not a normal reaction. But okay, whatever. They fall in love in like 2.5 seconds

Back to Jake and Evie. I felt like Jake's characterisation was badly done. I'm sorry to say this, but I feel like the author knows the hype about 'alpha-men' and how much us readers love them (me included), but Jake's alpha-ness was extremely unconvincing and it contrasted COMPLETELY to the other side of him, the sensitive loving one, that it ended up being completely unbelievable. He goes all Christian Grey on her with his demands, and her submission (where she always does as he says). I'm sorry to say, but I think this would have been A LOT better if the author stuck to creating a sweet, protective guy, and not Christian Grey wanna-be, with the hold "Now, finish your food." It was just so random in the story and creeped me out because I felt like that wasn't really him. I LOVE alphas, they're my favourite heroes, but it DID NOT work here at all.

Then there's Evie. While I admired how genuinely sweet she was, it was too good to be true. Considering her past experiences, I expected someone realistically more critical about trusting someone so quickly and letting them in. Also, I think the author imitated the whole 50 shades thing where he commands things and she agrees. She was quite the pushover at times and it pissed me off. When she catches his lies 3 or 4 times, he NEVER justifies because 'he's not ready', and he just says 'just trust me'. And she says yes. Umm, lady, you saw him with different women at different times, don't you think you need an explanation? It was kind of pathetic to hear her say "but I trust him, so it's okay." No women! Get an explanation! Throughout the whole book, he doesn't offer ANY explanation despite his EXTREMELY DODGY AND SKETCHY ACTIONS.

Then, of course, there's the extreme predictability of the story. As in, I'm sorry, we kinda all know that

Oh and alas, the twist! Spoilers ahead about the twist, for those of you who wanna give it a shot and wanna hear why I chose to give this 2 stars and not 4, without reading specifics, essentially it's this: throughout the separation, she's celibate, he's a manwhore, and his justification DID NOT CUT IT FOR ME. I considered it cheating.

I will never condone a book where the hero is a manwhore during a separation and the heroine is celibate. Unless 1- The heroine did something HORRIBLE to the hero like broke his heart and he believed she didn't want him, or 2 - If the hero thought she was dead.

Now here's the thing, reading Mia Sheridan's stories before and knowing how POWERFUL the love was and faithful the characters are, I was actually 100% sure it would be the latter, that Leo thought Evie was dead which is why he had so many women after, but of course not... the hero had to be a douche. The spoiler will go into specifics:

Also, can I add things that I didn't like as a whole:

1. She didn't recognise leo, already mentioned that.
2. She never saw the tattoo on his back? Dude, IT'S MASSIVE and you guys have had sex like a million times.
3. She's a virgin till 22 and has sex with him on a second date, bam bam thank you mam.
4. Their falling in love was too quick and a bit unbelievable
5. Too 50 shades for my liking
6. Too cliche / predictable
7. Her heart breaks for him when he tells her about the women and how broken he is. Umm, I would be furious but ok.
7. When she finds out he's Leo, I expected him to be KISSING HER FEET from regret, but this is what happens when she sees him again:
He closes his eyes for a minute like he's really just too tired to deal with my attitude Umm, I'm sorry, is her attitude (which is completely pliant anyways) too much for you considering she thought you were dead / now knows you've effed a million women despite your promise to her?

Then:

He sighs as if he's barely tolerating me. "Sit down Evie. Now." Man, if this is how someone spoke to me when they BETRAYED ME, I'd go mental, but of course she listens to him like she did the entire book.

Okay, I think rant done.

Oh, one last thing. I was EXTREMELY disappointed in the author for a part where Evie asks Jake if he's been with a lot of women, and he says there have been MANY but he hasn't dated any. That Evie's different. Okay, I like manwhores, but THEN when he asks her if she's dated a lot, she says there's been many but no one serious (as a joke) and he's furious about it. Then when she says the truth to him, that there hasn't been anyone, he says "because you're a better person than me". Sex partners does not tell you how good a person is or not.

Okay, NOW i think my rant is done. I used to purchase Mia sheridan's books on spot, cause I loved all her previous ones, but now, I learnt I need to be cautious.

Take into considering I'm a VERY minor opinion. You could like it if you're more forgiving than me.

My EVIE and LEO

This is a story about Evie and Leo. Two kids who met when Evie was 10 and Leo was 11...

We met in the first foster care home each of us were sent to and he’s my best friend in the world, the boy I’ve grown to love.

 photo fc3bbb38-9e15-4850-9816-9f298be5af7e_zps9c31dd12.jpg

Leo and Evie become the best of friends. As they get a little older, they fall in love. When Leo is 15 and Evie is 14, Leo gets adopted and has to move to SanDiego, across the country from where Evie. is.

 photo 690d1c2b-dc72-4f68-9de4-e9f241365077_zps33108d42.jpg

Leo makes a promise to Evie. He will wait for her, she will wait for him. In four years, when she turns 18, he will come for her. They can start to live their life together. He will write, call etc.

 photo 9f978356-367f-49f9-ac6f-40560bb05d3f_zps30dc0708.jpg

Evie lives up to her end of the bargain, but she never hears from Leo again. She is upset, worried, hurt, but she moves on with her life. She tries not to think to much about him, but 8 years later, one of Leo’s friends contacts her. Jake. Jake tells Evie he knew Leo from college, Leo was in a car accident and didn’t make it. But he asked Jake to check on her. This is really hard for Evie to hear.

Evie feels something for Jake. Something she has never felt for another man, except Leo. Jake asks her out and she accepts. Jake runs his family’s business, has a lot of money, and lives in a nice condo. Evie works two jobs, one as maid and the other, a caterer to make rent on her studio apt. But there is something about Evie. Jake is enamored with her. He wants to know all about her, but he doesn’t share much about himself. They grow close. Jake is a dominate, possessive, alpha male. He is a known ladies man, Evie is very inexperienced. She doesn't know for sure if she can trust Jake, but she wants to. They are happy together.

 photo 0089bcfa-5b6a-453a-a26a-ae0a41c40fdc_zpsce6bce0d.jpg

Jake has secrets. When they come to light, it will change everything between these two.

Okay- my take: I really liked this one. It was a shorter read, but good. I spent a lot of the book trying to figure out why... why didn’t Leo contact Evie, what is Jake hiding? When I read the ‘twist’ of the story, I was a little shocked, a little sad, but also happy.

 photo 1b37683c-0c2e-4ef4-8789-fd678aeeaf60_zps8793e6fd.jpg

All the flashbacks with Leo, that was one of my favorite parts of the story. I loved seeing Evie and Leo’s relationship. Leo was the sweetest. I hate what he had to go through as a child. The stories with his brother broke my heart. Evie didn’t have it easy either.

“I went through a lot to get where I am and I don’t take anything I have for granted, ever. That’s my reward.”

Evie is independent. She is sweet, kind, compassionate and polite. She has had a hard life, but hasn’t let that life turn her hard. She is happy with what she has accomplished, and doesn’t take anything for granted. She was a great heroine.

It was also cool that this story took place 10 miles from where I live :D
The ending was fantastic, I loved the epilogue!
A solid 4-4.5 stars from me! I would definitely recommend this one!

“Everyone tells a story about themselves in their own head. That story makes you what you are, dictating all your actions and all your mistakes. If your own story is filled with guilt and fear and self-hatred, life can look pretty miserable. But, if you're very lucky, you might have a person who tells you a better story, one that takes up residence in your soul, speaking louder than the woeful tale you've convinced yourself of. If you let it speak loudly within your heart, it becomes your passion and your purpose.”

★★★★1/2! Sign of Love series, book 1 (Stand-alone) Debut by Mia Sheridan. An amazing heroine & a bossy alpha male with a troubled past are brought together by the loss of a friend.

This is book 1 in the Sign of Love series. Based on this book’s ending I have concluded that this is a stand-alone series, but this has not been confirmed by the author yet.

Hero: Jake (Jacob) Madsen/business owner-mogul/$$$/23 years old/light brown hair/brown eyes/6’2”
Heroine: Evelyn Cruise, Evie/hotel maid-part time caterer/22 years old/dark brown hair/brown eyes/5’5”

Jake and Evie are brought together when Jake seeks her out to deliver the news that her childhood friend and first love, Leo has died in a car accident. But even though this book opens up with such tragic news we’re quickly pulled into the story and the budding romance between Jake and Evie. This is their story!

The memories of Leo will serve as a backdrop throughout the book with Evie reminiscing about her childhood. Leo and Evie met in the foster care system and became the closest of friends. When Leo was adopted and moved away his last promise was that he would come back for her on her 18th birthday and he had made her promise she’d wait for him. The glimpses into their past are very poignant, but also give us an understandings of who Evie is and why she would save herself for 8 years waiting on Leo. Here is their first meeting at age 10 and 11 respectively:

“This is Leo's first night here. Leo was in charge of putting the napkins out and I notice that he put them on the right and they're supposed to go on the left. I only know this because I like to read books like Ann of Green Gables, and Little House on the Prairie, and I pick up random things like that from the stories.”

Evie is truly a wonderful heroine; she is smart and witty, beautiful and kind, loving and caring and so very strong. Despite everything that has happened to her she has persevered and managed to make a modest life for herself. She works two jobs with hopes of being able to attend college. She has aspirations of becoming a writer, but since she doesn’t own a computer she uses the computer at the library. She is the type of person who touches people’s heart. Chances are she will stay with you…
“It will only ever be you, Evie.”

But she has a spunky, feisty side:
“You don't know me. You think you do, but you don't. You think you know what type of person I am, but you have no idea. And so, you don't get to do this. You don't get to interrupt my life over and over again and then think that I will be grateful to you for gracing my life with your very presence…”

Evie also has two wonderful friends in Nicole and Landon (aka the Cliché).

Jake is has many of the characteristics I love in a hero. At first glance he is the bossy alpha male hero and he is handsome and sexy, successful and rich and he is quite taken with Evie. But as the story progresses we learn that there is more to Jake; He has secrets and we catch glimpses of a troubled hero. Add to that villains (scorned exes) set out to break them apart…. I will say no more because I want you to enjoy reading Jake’s and Evie’s story as much as I did.

This was a quick read. And I really don’t have any complaints, other than I might have wished the book to be longer so ending could have been stretched over a longer period of time. That said I am content with how events unfolded. I loved every moment. An excellent debut by Mia Sheridan!

There are moments of joy and butterflies, sexy hot moments with a very bossy Jake and then there are other moments of profound sadness… and reflection:

“Everyone tells a story about themselves in their own head. That story makes you what you are, dictating all your actions and all your mistakes. If your own story is filled with guilt and fear and self-hatred, life can look pretty miserable. But, if you're very lucky, you might have a person who tells you a better story, one that takes up residence in your soul, speaking louder than the woeful tale you've convinced yourself of. If you let it speak loudly within your heart, it becomes your passion and your purpose.”

Well I am definitely in the minority here. Fairly predictible and quite boring actually. I do not like giving low stars.

Cannot believe this is the same author who wrote Stinger (Sign of Love, Scorpio 1) by Mia Sheridan.

Maybe if I had read it back when it was first released and had no high expectations of it, I might have enjoyed it more. Maybe it is because I have read a few really excellent books not so long ago.
Sorry to all my friends who loved it and there were quite a lot of you out there - you were the reason I wanted to read it.

I HAVE SAID IT ONCE I WILL SAY IT 1000 TIMES I HATE CHEATERS

Her staying faithful while he sleeps around is a big no for me.
How can he say he loves her here? What kind of crazy messed up relational was this? That he should freely have sex with his "step-mom".
To me it's obvious I mean seriously dude get some help! That is so messed up I can't even touch that.
Also, this story sounds strangely familiar!
Guys have dicks so hey it's not their fault. That sh*t is so old, it's back in the Stone Age.

“Why are you looking at me?”
“Because I like your face.”

This was such an exciting read for me. My very first Mia Sheridan book. Now most of my friends suggested to start with some of her later works, but for those of you who know me I'm pretty peculiar and very insistent on reading in order. Without an actual series order I went with release date. So Leo it was. And what a sweet and moving book to get the ball rolling. A solid first book by Ms. Sheridan and something that made me very interested in more.

“Maybe I’m an open book, or maybe love is like a magnifying glass straight into the souls of those who own your heart.”

Leo tells the story of two kids who grew up in foster care. Leo and Evie first met when they were 11 and 10 years old. Stuck in a cruel system with no one to rely on but themselves. That was until they learned how to trust and support each other. A beautiful friendship grew into a strong and unmovable love.

Until one day when Evie was 14 years old Leo was suddenly adopted and had to move away. They promised to never lose their bond and stay connected until they could be together again. It's been eight years since Evie last heard from the love of her life and she lost hope long ago that she would ever see him again.

Evie did the best she could with her life, but for all intents and purposes she is stuck in suspended animation, still waiting for her soulmate and trying to improve her life little by little. That changed the day she confronts her ‘stalker’, the handsome and mysterious Jake.

“All the world's a circus. Sometimes you choose your act and sometimes it's assigned to you. I had roamed the arena for far too long, roaring and bellowing, believing that I wasn't brave enough to leap through fire. But all along, she had stood there, constant and calm.”

I'm not going to lie, it was painfully obvious what was going on here. Nothing was really a big surprise. Despite some rather unexpected revelations towards the end the direction was clear from the start. And I didn't mind at all. The story was beautiful and heartwarming nevertheless. I enjoyed the writing, the carefully constructed characters and if you ae in the mood for a sweet and a little sexy second chance romance you should give this a try.

Since I’m writing this review after I already finished Leo’s Chance, the companion piece in Leo’s POV, I want to mention that I very much suggest reading the second book if you liked Leo. It is very rare that the same story written from different character's viewpoint gets my attention or better yet holds that attention long enough for me to finish reading.

I have to say it was a very well rounded and very enjoyable addition. For the most part I even think Leo's Chance was the better book overall, the writing was improved (if that is even possible) and Leo's voice was very strong and well developed. In hindsight the different vantage point was probably needed to really tell the story. Leo’s Chance didn’t really disclose anymore than Leo did, but it was a lot more emotional and gut wrenching even. I have to confess tears were involved...more than once. Both books together make a really good complete picture and both have their right to exist next to each other.

All in all, an enjoyable read and from what I've seen so far, Ms. Sheridan is an author to check out.

I finished reading this book in one day and it was going to be one of my favorite books with “5 stars” but it lost me in the last 20 percent after “the twist of the story”.

I was left so disappointed that it felt as if someone had taken something I loved dearly from me. I really would rather it had evolved into something else.

***********************************************

“LEO” is the story of two kids from a foster care who love each other very much and it is really an emotional book. The story touched me from the very beginning, but even during the happiest moments, there was a lump in my throat as to what was going to be revealed that would make me unhappy because there were signs of something disturbing to come, something sad.

I knew it all along but I couldn’t put my finger on what it was. Actually, I had two theories as to what it was, both turning out to be wrong in the end :(

***********************************************

When I read the twist of the story, I was shocked because I did not see it coming. Up until the “twist”, I was happy – I was saying, “Well everyone has secrets. So what? He will explain it in the end and she will understand...”

She did, but I did not! When the full truth was revealed, I was saying to myself “Oh... WTF?” with resentment and frustration. I did not expect it at all. I did not expect to be so disappointed in the hero.

I still have difficulty in understanding and forgiving – maybe it is because forgiving is not one of my strong suits. I wanted to throw away my kindle or hit the hero with it at that point!

Here is why I was so disappointed:

BIG SPOILERS HERE, BE CAREFUL!

And here I say to the writer, “Why did you make Leo do all that ?– it just does not fit the character at all. After a few days of their separation, while he was missing her that much (we learn it later from his beautiful letters), how can you make him do it?

I just don’t understand and I think I will put the blame on the writer rather than the hero himself. Well, maybe, the book deserves 5 points with all this beautiful story telling, the deep emotions and the hot chemistry between them which was felt on every page, in every sentence, but I am so angry with the writer for ruining such a beautiful love story for me; hence my low grade.

***********************************************

And here is one more thing that made me question the book... This is the most important revelation - please don't read if you have not read the book and intend to read it.

That was totally unconvincing...

If you ask me, this book is a waste of time with this ending... It is very frustrating!

5+ "I choose you" Stars!

 photo Leo - Mia Sheridan_zps7ozceduu.png

After a quite bad read I needed a feel good and sweet novel and I knew Mia Sheridan would be a good choice. Earlier this year I read my first book by her (Archer's Voice) and I loved it so I decided to give it another try and now read Leo (which happens to be Sheridan's debut novel).

First let me say this in advance, I believe I will not be able to review this book without 'spoilering' something. The whole book and one of the characters in particular has this secret and it happens to be everywhere in this book. I literally read 10% of Leo and I already suspected on the 'big secret' so PLEASE if you haven't read this book and you want to, DO NOT CONTINUE READING my review. You've been warned ;)

Leo is a stand-alone (that belongs to Sheridan's A Sign of Love novels) and it tells the story of two kids that have grown up together in foster care: these are Leo McKenna and Evelyn "Evie" Cruise. They start as friends (Evie being 10 and Leo 11) and obviously, as time passes, they fall in love. However, Leo is adopted at the age of 15 and has to leave his beloved's side. He promises he will come back for her...

"I'm going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it's going to mean that you're mine. I don't care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I'll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won't let anyone else touch you. Promise me you'll save yourself for me."

And he never came back. We do not know why and with that eight years pass. Now, Evie is 22, she is free and she is living a decent life (even though, she had quite a difficult past thanks to her druggie mother). She works, she can pay a little apartment for her and she has amazing friends (loved Nicole and Landon to pieces!!). However, her love life is nule after having her heart broken by the love of her life.

Then.. Jake Madsen a.k.a "creepy stalker" appears. He is rich, super handsome and he is kind of stalking Evie (who happens to enjoy it a little bit!!). After some time they actually talk and Jake comes with news about Leo. News that Evie was not expecting after eight years.. Also, the news that Evie happens to be very VERY attracked to Jake, of course!

"You know, I'm sure there are girls all over the city who would love the opportunity to be stalked by you. It really doesn't seem fair that you focus all your creepiness on me."
He smiles. "I've decided I like focusing on you, though, Evie."

They feel a very strong connection towards each other and they start dating. Evie and Jake are the sweetest and hottest together. I love Mia Sheridan's characters and the ones in Leo were not an exception. So, Jake and Evie are dating and they feel this connection which reminds me so much of the one she had with Leo.. Evie senses that as well and she also sees that Jake is hiding something.

He rips his mouth from mine as he growls, "Mine. Only mine. Only. Ever. Mine," still slamming into me, pounding me against the wall.

I had made a promise a long time ago and although that person was no longer a part of my life, nor was he ever going to be, somewhere inside I always knew that if I was going to fall in love again, it was going to be because something in that man reminded me of Leo.

The novel is a mix of Evie's present and flashbacks and well.. Obviously, there is quite a surprise towards the ending: I very much suspected of it since the beggining but still I really enjoyed Leo. I enjoyed it so much.

"I love you, Evie," he says quietly. "Whatever you think about what I'm about to tell you, you have to know that. I've always loved you. I've never stopped. Not for one second in eight years."

I loved the writing. The main and secondary characters. And specially the chemistry between the couple. As always, Sheridan does not fail on that! And the ending! Awwwwww, it was just so freaking sweet! I love cheesy, lovey dovey, love you forever kind of ending haha ;)

Everyone tells a story about themselves in their own head.
If you let it speak loudly within your heart, it becomes your passion and your purpose. And this is a good thing, the best of things. Because it is the very definition of love, nothing less.

Therefore, my rating is (clearly) 6 STARS because I simply loved this novel: just the whole thing (writing, characters, plot, etc.). I think it was an amazing debut book and I cannot wait to read the other ones written by Mia Sheridan. So, if you haven't read anything by her or you haven't read Leo, please do, I highly recommend it! :)

"This is not goodbye, Evie. Remember our promise. Don't ever forget our promise. I will come back for you.”~ Leo

description

I really enjoyed Mia Sheridan’s writing in her debut novel Leo! I loved the characters and the past/present presentation of the story line. I found myself engrossed in the story from the prologue.

Leo is the story of Evie and Leo two foster children who have survived horrible upbringings and have found home in each other. Through the years they fall in love. I found that their teenage love story was just beautiful and I just loved the prologue.

”Maybe I’m an open book, or maybe love is like a magnifying glass straight into the souls of those who own your heart.”~Evie

When Leo gets adopted and has to move across the country, he makes some big promises and declarations to Evie.

”Then before we know it, you’ll be 18 and I’ll be able to come back for you. We’ll make a life together.”~ Leo

”It will only ever be you, Evie.”

Sadly eight years have come and gone and Evie never hears from Leo. She has made a safe life for herself on her own and has accumulated some wonderful friends. She works hard for all that she has. She is a beautiful, witty, caring and wonderful person. Despite the hand she has been dealt in this world, she is the kind of person a friend would value.

Evie realizes that she is being followed by a handsome stranger and is shocked to find out that he is sent on behalf of Leo to check in on her. Jake delivers some crushing news and slowly Evie and Jake start spending time together. Jake seems to have some secrets, he is rather vague about his past and there are one or two woman who seem to be circling around him.

Jake Madsen and Evie fall in love but this story takes a couple of twists and turns and through love, salvation and a happily ever after, this reader was left with a smile on her face.

The only aspect of this book that didn’t work for me was the cover. I felt that this kind of story deemed something different than the promise of sex as the cover offers.

”All the world’s a circus. Sometimes you choose your act and sometimes it’s assigned to you. I had roamed the arena for far too long, roaring and bellowing, believing that I wasn’t brave enough to leap through fire. But all along, she had stood there, constant and calm.”

Beautiful story job well done Mia Sheridan!

Let me start off by saying that Mia Sheridan is one of my favorite authors. This book started off really great, I was in 100% from page 1. As I kept reading I started to think "Please don't let this be one of those cheesy clichéd books, please!" But as per usual Mia does not disappoint, EVAH!!! The "big reveal" was brutal and that ending!!! Sigh.

I’m extremely exhausted with second chance romances featuring a celibate fmc and a manwhore mmc.

Breaking his promise to her THREE DAYS LATER because his new Not to mention he’s LYING TO HER the entire book. Remind me again why this is love?

So many similarities to 50 shades in this one. Also, how many times have they had sex and she’s never seen the massive tattoo on his back? Does he walk backwards into the bathroom afterwards?

The last 5% kinda redeem it, his letters, and his teenage love for her. There is nothing wrong with the writing, and I liked the Mary Sue fmc, so 2 stars.

Wow!!!! What a story! I gotta say, I started and finished this book in 12 hours. That's never happened. I can finish a book in a day but in 12 hours? Yeah, not so much. Granted it was a quick read or at least quicker than most.

I have to keep this simple because I'm afraid if I say too much, I'll reveal the crazy ass twist.

I loved this book. I LOVED Leo, Evie was great and Jake rocked too. But my favorite was Leo. Oh Leo, my poor poor Leo. I love the sweet, kind, amazing Leo. Sigh.

I look into his eyes and ask, “Why are you looking at me?”
His eyes search mine for several long seconds before he hold contact and whispers, “Because I like your face.”

*sigh sigh sigh*

 photo Jake-Leo_zpsae8bb6df.jpg

It was a bit predictable but even though I had my theories( which were confirmed later), I still second-guessed myself a lot. I thought I was right but then I figured I was wrong. I was all kinds of confused and uncertain. But I still enjoyed it. There were minimal editing issues but not enough to really make a difference. There were ALOT of sex scenes and boy were they hot and panty melting. There were a few issues or things that I wished could have happened or I wished didn't happen but overall it was enjoyable. I love that we get chapters of past (when they're 14/15) until they're adults and inbetween. Well they met at 11 and 12 and it goes back and forth. Love that.

Basically...2 broken kids in foster care, meet fall in love and part ways. Later, said girl moves on with her life making a life for herself and she's got alot of emotional baggage from her old fucked up life. Said boy moves away and makes a life of his own but shit happens, keeping said boy and girl apart...life goes in different directions...Leo *gulp* dies and more shit happens and shit hits the fan and it's a cluster fuck of what the hell is going on.

It was a great read. I'm glad I saw it. I bought it. And I read it. It was worth the journey, to me. I love LEO!!!!!! Sigh.
Go read and form your own opinions. I'm curious what others think.

'...the boy I've grown to love intensely, the boy who makes me want to stay awake because reality is finally better than my dreams. But he's been adopted and I'm so happy for him to finally have a family because it's so rare for that to happen to teens. But at the same time, my heart feels like it's bleeding inside my chest.

 photo heartbreak012_zps09ca543b.gif

He's looking at me intensely now like he can read my mind. Which of course, he can. Maybe I'm an open book, or maybe love is like a magnifying glass straight into the souls of those who own your heart.'

"I'm going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it's going to mean that you're mine. I don't care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I'll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won't let anyone else touch you. Promise me you'll save yourself for me." ~Leo

"He came to say goodbye to me the night before he left and he kissed me for the very first time. And when I say he kissed me, I mean it was like a vow, that kiss. I've heard people say they lose themselves in a kiss, but it was like we found ourselves the second our lips met. It was like he took me apart and put me back together with that kiss." ~Evie

Evie and Leo meet in foster care, they become best friends and fall in love. The day Leo finds out he is being adopted and moving clear across the country is the day everything in Evie's life changes. Because the boy who promised to love her, stay in touch with her and eventually comeback for her never does ...

"I knew Leo. He asked me to check on you." ~Jake

Eight years later Evie is being stalked by a guy who claims to be sent by Leo. Jake. Evie and Jake are connected in more ways then Evie can imagine. Jake is hiding something though. Something that has haunted him for years.

'He's also leaving something out. I don't know exactly how I know this, I just do.' ~ Inner monologue of Evie

Evie can sense that he is withholding something; yet the intense pull she feels toward Jake has her falling in love with him regardless of his secrets.

When the truth is revealed will Evie stand by Jake?

Is love enough?

FAVORITES

Fave things unsaid...

'And when he laughs like that, I swear a piece of my soul, the part of me that keeps secrets even from myself, tries to lunge towards him, like his happiness is an invisible pull to my own heart. It's crazy. I don't even know this guy.' ~Evie

Heart stopping lines...

"And, Evie, when you walk away from people, even strangers, you gotta know that their eyes follow you. And I'll tell you why because I've felt it myself. It's because they don't want to see the light that is Evie, the light that is you, walking away from them. They want to see it coming towards them and staying with them." ~Jake

"God, Evie," he whispers. "You feel so good. You smell so good. You undo me. And I haven't even had you yet. What will that do to me?"
~Jake

"Why are you looking at me?"
"Because I like your face."

In Leo, Mia Sheridan does it again. She brings romance, heart, grit, and tenderness to every story that she creates. I found myself swept away by this beautiful piece.

description

Leo begins in the past. We meet Evie and Leo. Both wards of the state, they have found friendship, acceptance, and love in each other. Both having to endure the hardships of the foster system, they find solace in each other.

description

"Maybe I'm an open book, or maybe love is like a magnifying glass straight into the souls of those who own your heart."

When Leo is fifteen, he is forced to say goodbye to Evie. He has been adopted and is moving away. He vows to find her when she is 18. They share a tender moment on the roof under a blanket of snow.

"I don't ever want to stop looking at him. I don't ever want to stop being near him. But he's moving across the country, and there's nothing we can do."-Evie

description

8 years later....

Evie is alone. She is making a way working as a maid. She is living a simple life. She enjoys reading and spending time with her friends. Only one thing is missing in her life....Leo!
She recognizes a stranger following her.

"Someone is following me. He's been doing it for a week and a half now. He's crap at it. I marked him almost immediately and I've been watching him as he's been watching me. Clearly, he's no professional. But I can't think of one single reason why someone is following me around town."-Evie

The stalker turns out to be a friend of Leo's named Jake. Jake is everything Evie is not. He is a polished business man with plenty of money, polish, and class. He is drawn to her. She is drawn to him. Although Evie doesn't have much experience with men, she begins to spend time with Jake.

Jake is a bit of a mystery. There are several instances where she fears he is lying to her. Evie is especially sensitive because of the numerous differences between the two. He is educated and running a multi million dollar company. Evie has her GED and is working as a maid. Every time Evie hesitates with Jake, he draws her back in.

"Please, just trust me, please don't go."-Jake

"I follow Jake and my heart once again. But hoping deep inside, that that doesn’t make me a fool."-Evie

Their relationship soon transforms into a passionate love affair. Jake and Evie find connection on every level. This is a tender friends to lovers story.

"He takes the back of my head in his hand and tilts it so that he can plunge his tongue in deep, and then we're kissing like we can't get enough of each other, like if a herd of zebras trampled through his living room right now, we wouldn't even come up for air."-Evie

description

Overall, Leo was a beautiful read. All of the quesitons are answered. I won't lie, I private messaged a friend with several questions along the way. In true Sheridan fashion, she has crafted a story that will stay with me forever. I can recommend with out hesitancy this read to anyone that enjoys a tender romance and a story of broken things made beautiful. There was a high level of angst as you try to put the pieces together. Still, it was an unforgettable read! Days later I am still thinking about it.

This sweet and touching story greatly showcases the power of love and the unsurpassable beauty of redemption. It opens with an emotional glimpse into the childhood of these broken characters, and quickly unites with present time-- sprinkling in important flashbacks as the story progresses.

Evie has come a long way from the lost and neglected little girl she once was. But one thing remains constant--her undying longing for her childhood best friend and first love--Leo. Although she has accepted his disappearance and his broken promises, she continues to quietly save her heart for the boy who broke it all those years ago...

I'm going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it's going to mean that you're mine.

When Jake stalks into Evie's life, armed with determination and information on Leo, Evie's world seems to finally come alive again. He sparks things inside her that she's never felt, but he also harbors secrets that could ultimately break the solid ground she now stands upon.

I really enjoyed the way this story progressed, and how we were gradually introduced to its secrets. The twist in the plot was easy to decipher, but I got the feeling that we were purposely being clued in ahead of time. As if the shock value of this story was meant for the characters and not necessarily the readers—allowing us the suspense of watching the truths unfold.

Jake was a passionate, bossy, and sexy hero. There were some areas of his character that lacked a little depth, but his guarded persona was warranted. The steamy scenes intense and descriptively sensual.

Evie—hands down—MADE this story, for me! Her actions built her character, not her inner dialogue, which was a true testament to this author's amazing execution. Instead of wallowing in the why me's, Evie uses her tortured childhood as motivation to rise above. The world has given her so many reasons to never trust it again--but she does. Heartache, neglect, poverty, and instability has plagued the precious years of her youth-- but she perseveres. Not only is she an inspirational heroine, but an amazing example of how every negative in life can be used to gain a positive perspective. Evie, and all that she represents, became the heart and soul of this book. Very sweet read!

This is a pretty good story of friends to lovers, second chance kind of love between two children who met in foster care. One gets adopted, one gets left behind but they promise to find each other when they are eighteen. ~Sigh~ Of course, that doesn't happen.

description

I have a lot of conflicting feelings about this story. I was intrigued and couldn't put the book down but it was blatantly obvious who a certain person was. Fortunately, there are enough twists that it keeps you on your toes and keeps you interested...well, at least it did for me.

Both Leo and Evie are quite enjoyable and you just can't help but pull for them especially with all they've been through. And they're just so sweet in that first puppy love kind of way.

Fast forward eight years and Evie has someone following her. Turns out it's a friend of Leo's named Jake who was sent to check in on Evie. Things progress quite quickly but there are things about Jake that just don't add up and slowly but surely, things come to light.

description

Jake and Evie were quite a lovely couple as well but their relationship was also a bit disconcerting. What Jake did was not right but Evie should've taken time then to figure out things and really look at the signs.

There's drama and there's angst but finally we get some answers and it's as bad as we thought it would be. Luckily, Evie has a great support system and is able to get to her true feelings.

I thought things got resolved a bit too quickly but overall I was happy with the story and the epilogue was really sweet.

There's a second book from Leo's POV called Leo's Chance. Hopefully, it's not a total rehash of the same story and we get some good insights. (ETA: It is a rehash but there are plenty of new things to keep things moving along. But more than that...the ending and extra epilogues make it highly worth reading!)

{Everyone tells a story about themselves in their own head. That story makes you what you are, dictating all your actions and all your mistakes. If your own story is filled with guilt and fear and self-hatred, life can look pretty miserable.

But, if you're very lucky, you might have a person who tells you a better story, one that takes up residence in your soul, speaking louder than the woeful tale you've convinced yourself of. If you let it speak loudly within your heart, it becomes your passion and your purpose. And this is a good thing, the best of things. Because it is the very definition of love, nothing less.}

Leo is the debut novel by one of my favourite authors, Mia Sheridan. I've read a few that she has written after this one, which I have really liked, but this one...let me just add that I am in the minority here...didn't work for me. It failed to excite me.......

I'm going to try and keep my "rant" as short as possible.

The writing was nothing like the other books...it was just okay. No great quotes stood out to me!!!

There were so many things that glaringly reminded me of 50 Shades of Grey.....all that internal dialogue, the broken and dominant hero, the sweet and virginal heroine, etc, etc

So, the heroine is still at a virgin....she promised to wait for Leo, remember.......and then..........presto.............2 dates and she sleeps with the hero...who is not Leo!!!!

Can I do some eye exercises here please!!!!!
 photo housewives-roll_zpszklwjmzq.gif
I actually liked Evie, the heroine. She was a really sweet and likeable characters......but when she starts telling her besties and friends all of Leo's secrets and how much she loves him....blah blah..........I just couldn't believable that any sane person who do that, even if it's her very best best BFF...............

I couldn't engage with Jake, the hero.........his whole attitude was ...ooh I'm so great.........and quite honestly, I can't believe a guy that age would be running a company like he does!!! Oh, did you say he's like Mr Christian Grey????? Really!!! Guess there's a lot of hot hot very very rich very very young zillionaires out there that I am not aware of!!!Or not!!! Ummm
 photo tumblr_njo81xucYY1skolcto1_500_zps83qqxj2c.gif
Yes, some more eye exercises after this......

Evie sleeps with Jake....lots and lots and lots of times and she never never ever sees the ginormous tattoo on his back.........what, they just do the missionary position in the dark!!!! Seriously!!! And to test my intelligence further....Evie DOES NOT recognize Leo when she sees him after all those many years........come one...
 photo Hermione_eye_roll_zps1vndilfg.gif
So when Evie discovers Jake's big secret - she's heartbroken for him...naturally!!! She's a sweet and loving and caring person.......and she's totally so understanding......really!!! The guy has slept his way through the years.....she's remained a virgin.........allright, so I can't exactly expect a person to keep their virginity in this day and age......but why can he be a slut and she has to be a virgin!!!!

Jake's sob story ..............I was like......

Despite the disappointment, I am still going ahead and reading the remainder of MS books........and I can't wait.

As they say, you can't win them all..............

I really wanted to love this book. However, despite its promising premise, I was disappointed.

Unfortunately, this book suffered from far too many editing problems. Most of the dialogue tags were punctuated incorrectly, with periods at the end of the dialogue where commas should’ve been used instead. Furthermore, you can’t speak an action. A period is needed as a separator between the action and the dialogue, not a comma.

I'm sorry, but I’m of the opinion that if you’re going to put your book out on the market for people to buy, then it should be properly edited.

The writing was boring, not the mention awkward at times. Every time the two main characters spoke to each other, whether in person or on the phone, they constantly said the other person’s name. Actually, this problem wasn’t limited to just the main characters. People don’t talk like that.

The story was rife with telling instead of showing. But, not to worry, there were plenty of smutty scenes to make up for it.

Sorry, but an overabundance of smut is not a substitute for lack of plot or character development. Evie would start her day and proceed to tell us everything by using a heavy dose of info dumping.

Both Evie and Jake were one dimensional characters. Jake was basically a watered-down version of Christian Grey, minus the whole BDSM aspect. I mean, seriously, this book even featured a female pedophile.

Evie fell in love with Jake after just knowing him a few days. Let's not forget that they met because he was stalking her. With Evie’s background, which included molestation, I found this a little hard to believe. I guess having 'chemistry' with a perfect stranger overrules common sense. Who cares about personal safety when the person stalking you is Adonis personified? She was a little too perfect, far too nice, and of course, extremely beautiful, but totally unaware of said beauty. No one let her forget these things either. People constantly praised her spectacular beauty and good-doer nature. It's like, okay, I get it. You don't have to ram it down my throat every chapter. I didn't forget. If her Mary-Sue tendencies were toned down, she could’ve been a more enjoyable character.

I wish the plot had been meatier and less predictable. I have to admit that, at times, I felt like I was reading an imitation Kristen Ashley book, slight though it may be. It was just little things here and there. Anyway, take that for what you will. All in all, though, it wasn't a bad read. Not great, but not terrible, either.

If only I read Leo 4 years ago, I might give it 4 stars or even 5 stars. However my taste for romance had been changed. And I am sorry to say I am disappointed.

I can not believe Leo is written by Miss Sheridan. The author who give Archer's Voice. So many problem is just.... wrong. The chemistry is rushed and forced. Their banter is off. Nothing interesting on the plot. The jokes are bland.

I was having difficult time finishing this book. And the climax about who is Jake, well I already seen it since the first chapter.

I have to be honest and say that when I first started this book I really didn't like it. Once i got into a little further I started to like it. There are twists in this book however I felt like I knew them all along. It wasn't a huge surprise. It was a good book overall. Just not one I would say to run out and read as soon as possible.

"Why are you looking at me?"
"Because I like your face"

And this is how Evie met Leo...

Both children belonging to the foster care system, Evie. And Leo become friends. At first its friendship and as the years go on, it changes.. The feelings change.. Leo is Evie's protector from the world and in their little world love blooms..

"It was as if all of those ten painful years had been for the sole purpose of bringing me to that boy in that place and time, and so I could only be grateful for any pain that had transpired to lead me to him.""

"And the thing about falling in love is that no matter where you are when it happens, you can't help but to color those moments with beauty, even if you're in a location of ugliness. He made what would have been a place of nightmares into a place to dream."

Leo suddenly gets adopted moving far away from Evie- She is devastated. Leo promises to keep in touch. They make a vow to each other that they belong to each other *and when she's 18 he will come back for her...

~”I’m going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it’s going to mean that you’re mine. I don’t care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I’ll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won’t let anyone else touch you. Promise me you’ll save yourself for me.”~Leo

But he never does...

8years later- out of the foster care system, Evie had built a small life for herself, working two jobs. Her only family is her wonderful friends.
Evie has looked for Leo and wonders what happened to the love of her life but never gets any answers.

Evie finds a guy following her for a few days.. she finds is strange but she's not scared...

She finally gets to meet him. We get introduced to Jake. He claims to have known Leo and Leo as passed away and he promised Leo he would check on her.

Evie cries for what she's lost, for what they've lost and for the things that never happened. Jake is adamant to know Evie

Evie is drawn to Jake like a moth to a flame.
They have undeniable chemistry like nothing Evie has felt before apart from Leo.

They start seeing each other and slowly Evie is so drawn into him that she ignores the voice in her head telling her something isn't right..
"Can you fall in love with someone after less than a month of knowing them? Nicole: More likely lust than love, but enjoy it all the same."

But she's never felt this way...
PASSION
LOVE
DESIRE

"Evie," he says quietly, finally looking at me, "What I mean is, when I fuck you, you're going to be mine. Is that clear enough for you"

OMG! Jake makes love to Evie for the first time(shes a virgin) and his sweet and kind and soft with her. The sex is oH So HoTT!

But who is Jake really and what is he hiding?? What will Evie do?

I admit I speculated a lot during this book- who could it be?? I had a lot of 'I'm so lost' moments too!

Let's just say my suspicions were correct but I NEVER expected the story I got at the end.

I
COULD
NOT
PUT
THIS
BOOK
DOWN!

This was an amazing book and I even though I was up till 2am sucked into this, it was worth it!!
Awesome buddy read with Marta ;)

~All along she stood there constant and calm.
“I can’t make the fire go away, I can’t guarantee you won’t get burned. But I can hold this hoop for you, I can remain steady and strong, because I believe in you. Because you are mine.”
And in the end, I had jumped. And the other side was just as glorious as her eyes had promised.~

I look into his eyes and ask, “Why are you looking at me?”
His eyes search mine for several long seconds before he hold contact and whispers, “Because I like your face.”

ATran recommended this book to me yesterday and after I read the blurb, I knew I had to read it ASAP. I luckily found it on Smashwords a day early than its scheduled release date and just dove right in. I was intrigued immediately. The story began with our H/h, Leo and Evie, only 15 and 14 respectively. The setting was on a rooftop, snow slowly starting to come down, not wanting to say goodbye to each other. Both children of the foster care system, Leo has been adopted and is moving. He promises to write her and come back for her when she turns eighteen so that they can begin their life together.

“I’m going to kiss you now, Evie, and when I do, it’s going to mean that you’re mine. I don’t care how far away from each other we are. You. Are. Mine. I’ll wait for you. And I want you to wait for me. Promise me you won’t let anyone else touch you. Promise me you’ll save yourself for me.”

Oh yea. I was SOLD.

Fast forward eight years…

Evie has not heard a word from Leo. The last time she saw or heard from him was atop the roof eight years ago. She is now twenty-two and has worked hard to get where she is. She’s not rich by any means, works two jobs to pay rent, but no matter what, she is happy with her life. Knowing where she has been, she doesn’t take anything for granted. Her life is uneventful for the most part, except for the stalker that has been following her for last week and half. He doesn’t give off creepy vibes, especially since he looks harmless, and gorgeous, too. She’s actually amused at how obvious he is. She decides to confront him and find out why he’s stalking her.

Jake is there to fulfill Leo’s dying wish: to check on Evie and make sure she’s okay. This is how Evie finds out what has happened to her Leo: A car accident claimed his life. She doesn’t really know how to process this information, nor does she understand why Jake keeps showing up after confronting him. But it’s pretty obvious that they have an immediate connection. Evie’s beauty and, most of all, her kindness, draws him in.

The more Evie and Jake spend with each other, the more Evie falls madly for him, but she remains hesitant. Jake is holding something back. We know barely anything about him and on a few occasions, makes Evie doubt his level of honesty. What do really know about Jake? What is he hiding?

Totally bossy. But totally sweet. And totally hot.

“Evie,” he says quietly, finally looking at me, “what I mean is, when I fuck you, you’re going to be mine. Is that clear enough for you?”

I honestly couldn’t put the book down. Not only was I enjoying Jake’s bossiness and aggressiveness, but most of all I wanted to know exactly who he is. What was he not telling us? Throughout the book, I was trying to read between the lines, so to speak. I formed a theory, but nothing was confirmed until towards the end. By then, I was completely engrossed wanting to know the connection. There were times where my heart actually broke for both Evie and Jake. This is definitely an emotional story and would recommend it. But be warned, the story could’ve used a little editing, but not to the point of annoyance really, but I thought I’d just mention it anyway. Happy reading!

Wow! Why didn't I read this book a long time ago??? This story was fanfreakingtastic!

The chemistry between Evie and Jake was off the charts! There was just enough angst to keep the story exciting, without too much eye-roll inducing drama. Ms. Sheridan seemed to get the mix just right for an engaging, provocative story that is still believable and not overdone. The characters were well-developed and easy to relate to, despite having dark pasts. Not too short, not too long. This book was just awesome!

This was my first book by Ms. Sheridan, but definitely not my last! She is definitely getting moved up my TBR list STAT!
