Amy and Greg have just celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary and they are expecting their first baby.

LIFE is GOOD

So when Greg fails to come home from walking their dog Rusty, Amy knows he didn’t leave of his own accord, despite what the POLICE think- forcing Amy to do some sleuthing of her own.

Kirsten and Nick are “the other couple”.

They have just enjoyed a romantic weekend away but on their rainy drive home, they swerve to avoid hitting a dog-and instead accidentally kill his owner.

They SHOULD call for help – but they DON’T

Instead they decide to conceal the accident-after all nothing will bring the dead man back-but THEY have MUCH to hide and even MORE to lose.

But they underestimated the man’s widow-
If Amy can’t get justice – she will settle for revenge.

But, WHO ends up on trial?

Letters from an unidentified person, in the courtroom, will keep you guessing.

This was a fun buddy read with my friend Susan, and this CLEVER book had us both revisiting earlier chapters when we realized what we had missed.

We kept swapping theories and we couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, to find out how it would all play out. (Be sure to watch for her insightful review)

It’s only my second book by the talented Diane Jeffrey-the first being “The Guilty Mother” (or The Appeal” if you are in the UK) and both have been addictive, satisfying reads!

I can’t wait to catch up on some other earlier titles!

Imagine you and your lover just had a wonderful weekend away and you decide to stop for lunch at a seaside restaurant on your travels home. While sipping that glass of wine you can't help feeling like life is great and how blessed you truly are!

Back on the road with full bellies and warm hearts when BANG!!!! You've hit a man out walking his dog. It was an accident. You never even saw him standing there. Now it's decision time: Call the proper authorities or make him disappear? He's already dead so it's not as if medics are going to be able to help. Why should your life be ruined over a simple accident?

Now imagine you're at home putting the finishing touches on dinner when your husband decides to bring the dog for a quick walk. Ten minutes, twenty minutes, thirty minutes, an hour and your husband still hasn't returned. It's as if he's vanished into thin air and what about the dog? Where did he run off to?

Detectives believe the husband did a runner. Wife believes otherwise and she will stop at nothing until justice is served. Let the games begin!

I did this book such a disservice by picking it up at a time when life was too busy and hectic to focus on it. Ten minutes here, five minutes there, with even days in between when I couldn't pick it up at all. I hate when that happens. Yet even with half my attention I can't deny that this was an entertaining book and I was easily able to slip back into the story whenever I did have the chance. Don't expect a lot of surprises or shocking twists as this is a straight up revenge story and I was all for it. There's just something so satisfying about watching terrible people get their comeuppance. The ending was the cherry on the sundae for this reader! 🍒 4 stars!

My first Diane Jeffrey novel!

Addictive with a nice pace that kept my interest piqued until the satisfying end! 👏👏

Kirsten and Nick have much to hide. She is manager of a high-end London estate agency. He is a renowned criminal defence barrister (one of the best, which may come in handy later)!

They have just spent a fabulous weekend away together, when they are involved in a fatal car accident, they then make a hasty decision that changes everything. They may get away with, but it will take a lot of scheming and could still blow up in their faces.

Someone knows what happened!

I had another twist in mind, but the author did a great job of creating several of "this could have happened/ this person could have been involved" trails. This would be a fun book to discuss. Overall, a winner for me and I think I would have enjoyed even more if I had added the audio! 🎧🤩

Kirsten and Nick are heading home after a weekend away when they hit and kill a pedestrian out walking his dog. Do they call the police? Nope! They are carrying on an illicit affair so choose to conceal the accident. He’s already dead so it’s not like anyone can help him now, right? What follows is one bad decision leading to another, with two character you will love to hate.

Amy is pregnant expecting their first child when Greg fails to come home after walking their dog. The police conclude he left of his own accord.

Amy knows better. When it becomes clear she is on her own, she sets out to discover the truth. As each clue begins to fit together the puzzle is eventually complete. Amy has already lost everything and has nothing left to lose. She will make them pay.

A solid completely entertaining thriller told in alternating chapters narrated by Kirsten and Amy, and a third unknown narrator, this was a twisty fun ride that kept me glued to my AirPods.

Please don’t judge this book by the sorry looking couple on the cover. The wimpy image is not indicative of the purposeful characters related to the story.

As someone swayed by cover art, I’m conscious of not choosing a book based on a pretty face but in this case, the opposite was true. I found the illustration off putting but was pulled into reading this at the suggestion of a friend.

Thank goodness for that because The Other Couple is a good one!

As a buddy read with Jayme, this generated a lot of commentary and proposed theories as to the direction of the story. There were multiple roads that could have been chosen and I was pleased with the final outcome. Happily ever after? You decide.

Credit to the author for slyly leading me down one path making assumptions just to discover my mis-steps later. Nicely done! There were a few other great twists as this one kept me on my toes for the duration.

Recommended.

Wow! Wow! Wow!

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would.

This dark and disturbing domestic thriller takes "Don't get mad, get even" to exciting new levels.

Diane Jeffrey is one of my go-to authors and, IMHO, this is her best book yet.

The book begins with an accidental hit-and-run.

From there, be prepared to be taken on a wild, twisty, well-orchestrated, and intense ride.

The book's characterizations were strong and ultra-compelling.

Twists were gasp-worthy and impossible to predict.

From beginning to end, the book was unputdownable.

I listened to the audiobook read by Gabrielle Nellis-Pain.

Although Gabrielle Nellis-Pain did a superb job with the narration, the book would have benefited from two narrators since it unfolded from two POVs.

5 enthusiastic stars!

Woahhhhhhh this is one great story
There is nothing better than a couple of pompous narcissistic selfish characters who are suddenly placed on the back footing as the tables are
turned and the screw tightens re a dastardly deed they covered up, even better when the character plotting her revenge is immediately likeable to the reader and you empathise 100% with her
A full on chilling opening leads to a really well plotted story and a conniving and appealing ending, interspersed with a few teaser chapters ( I shall say no more on that but will become apparent when you are reading it )
This book literally took me over until the last sentence and is a winner of a read, full of emotion churning scenarios and clever joy to read writing, I loved every page

My first Diane Jeffrey book! Reading great reviews of this book on Bookstagram had me rushing to request it. Thanks to the publishers for granting me late access to this one and taking a chance that I’d be able to review it quickly. I appreciate the opportunity.

Author Diane Jeffrey led me forward through her carefully curated twists and curves toward her alluring, yet satisfying, resolution. The entire read was filled with anticipation, both in what her characters and in what I felt. The addition of letters throughout added to my curiosity.

Although I didn’t really care for any of the characters, I was still really invested in the outcome. I had a need to see whether justice would be served. Would the cheaters get caught? Would the widow get closure? What about Rusty?

I appreciated how the author gave me all the necessary bits of information and allowed me to piece all the pieces together myself. Being an active participant made me inherently more invested. It was a fantastic balance of the reader knowing more than the characters and some of the characters knowing more than others which made it such a compelling read.

Now that I know I like Jeffrey’s writing style, I’ll be adding her to my auto-read list.

This taut mystery is one that you’ll gladly trade chores and reality for some ‘feverishly turning pages’ time.

I was gifted this copy by HQ Digital and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Psychological Fiction, Domestic Thriller
Publication date ‏ : ‎ June 14, 2023
Narrated by: Gabrielle Nellis-Pain
Length: 9 hrs and 44 mins

Kristen and Nick. Amy and Greg. Two couples. A fatal accident. And a decision that changes everything...

This story hooked me from the beginning. As the story was told from Kristen's and Amy's perspective then the reader gets to know more than Amy or Kristen. Usually this sort of thing irritate me as it takes away lots of mystery but in this story it was written in a good way - you are still guessing and you can feel tension building.

This story was emotional and though-provoking, making reader think how they would react in similar situation. You'll get to see how things can go rapidly wrong when you try to cover up something instead of facing it. I wanted to see whether justice will be served and if she will get some sort of closure. It is very difficult to make the character who's plotting revenge against someone likeable, but I could emphatise with her and relate with her loss. Not sure I could live with the guilt but in a way this was an eye for an eye justice when everything else failed...

Gabrielle Nellis-Pain did a wonderful job with the narration. I didn't even miss that there was only one narrator for two POVs. Everything was clear and story came to life.

Although this story was dark and difficult to read at times, it turned out to be one of the best psychological thrillers I've read this year. Definitely plan to check out other books by this author.

They ruined your life...it's time to get revenge...

Just wow! This has got to be the best Diane Jeffrey book I have read to date! Oh my gosh...the adrenaline was pumping from start to finish. You just know who the villain is so how will it all end? Even I had no clue as to its direction until just before the final twist. And what a splendid twist it was. They say that revenge is a dish best served cold but Diane Jeffrey has dished this one up piping hot!! Where to begin?

THE OTHER COUPLE is about two couples - Nick and Kirsten...and Amy and Greg. And to make this thriller even more twisted, Nick is married to Edie and Kirsten is married to Jamie. They met five years previously when Kirsten, a high end real estate agent, sold Nick and his wife their stunning house. And a celebratory dinner ended up being a five year long affair. Never mind that Kirsten had a hubby and 8 year old daughter Lily at home. No. These two are the most selfish narcissistic self obsessed people that they cannot (and will not) see beyond their own selfish needs and desires...and to hell with everyone else. Not least their spouses...but also Amy and Greg Wood.

Nick and Kirsten have just enjoyed a dirty weekend at a flat they've rented on the North Devon coast. Far away from their busy lives in London...and anyone who would know them. But as their weekend comes to an end and they must return to London, they round a bend in the pouring rain and hit someone walking their dog...who turns out to be the owner of the very flat they have just rented this past weekend - Greg Wood. Panic sets in and the couple decide they have far too much to lose and bundle the body into the car along with the dog. They return to London where Nick "takes care of things" and Kirsten goes back to her life with a dog now in tow.

Back in Devon, Amy Wood has a roast lamb ready for carving and awaiting Greg to return from walking Rusty, their dog. When an hour turns into two, three and four, she begins to realise something has happened. She calls his parents and friends and no one has seen him. When she finally does call the police, they begin to work on the assumption that Greg has left of his own volition. But Amy knows that not to be true. They just celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary the day before and were on the cusp of an exciting new chapter of their lives. Greg was excited. He did not leave her and take Rusty with him without a word.

But what happened to Greg? And if something did happen to him, then where is Rusty?

Told from the alternating perspectives of Amy and Kirsten, THE OTHER COUPLE begins as something of a domestic thriller but turns into something far twistier.

Kirsten is wealthy with a stunning home in an affluent neighbourhood, a loving husband and an 8 year old daughter - she has it all...and still she isn't satisfied. She wants more. She wants Nick. And he is nothing but an abusive controlling narcissistic sociopath. He controls her by ghosting her for days and weeks on end and then love bombing her when they reunite. I honestly don't know what she saw in him. Frankly they deserved each other.

Amy, on the hand, had all my sympathy. She had a loving husband that was taken away from her in an instant, lost her dreams and even her dog! This other couple took everything from her. My heart ached for her with the not knowing what happened to Greg. When the police fail to provide any results, Amy decides to do some digging of her own...and to find out the truth one way or another.

WOW! Despite knowing who was who and who did what, the tension in this book was so tight I thought I would snap from the sheer intensity of it all. I loved the letters peppered throughout the book that were tacked onto the end of selected chapters. They aren't signed and there is enough information for readers to glean that someone's in prison...but why? And how? And most of all, who? None of which become clear until just before the final reveal when everything begins to fall into perfect place. And oh what symmetry! That twist was just so delicious I just have to relish it, it's so perfect. I loved it!

Overall, THE OTHER COUPLE is an edge of your seat thriller that is addictive and compelling, despite knowing all the players and their roles, you still want to see how it all ends. It really is so good...too good to put down and I hated the times I had to because I just wanted to keep reading it! I loved it. A well deserved 5 stars!

I would like to thank #DianeJeffrey, #Netgalley and #HQStories for an ARC of #TheOtherCouple in exchange for an honest review.

Paperback.
I loved the way that this plunged straight in.
I did find Kirsten’s actions very unbelievable immediately after crime was committed. Especially Rusty. Would anyone really be as foolish as this?
I loved Amy…you go girl!

What a wholly satisfying thriller! Characterization and writing were top notch and that ending...

Two couples:

Amy and Greg are a young couple who live in coastal Devon. She is a primary school teacher and he runs a surf shop. They are very happily married and are expecting their first child. When Greg goes out one rainy day to walk their dog, he never returns. Amy is devastated by his disappearance. Greg's parents too are overcome with grief, as they have already lost one son and are fearful of losing another.

Kirsten and Nick are married, but not to each other. They have been having a love affair for five years now. They have a dirty weekend away when a life changing event disrupts their lives. Kirsten is an estate agent who is married to a lovely chap named Jamie and is the mother to seven-year-old Lily. Nick is a renowned and extremely successful criminal defence barrister.

When Amy decides to discover for herself just what exactly happened to her beloved husband, all of their lives are forever changed.

Interspersed with the narratives of Amy and Kirsten there is a third narrative from an unknown person who is incarcerated. The reader is kept guessing until the very end who that person is.

Did Amy exact revenge on Kirsten and Nick and end up in prison for her actions? Did Kirsten and Nick get caught out for their criminal acts? All I can say is read this book and find out for yourself. This fast-paced narrative will have you rooting for Amy, yet fearful for her at the same time.

I actively disliked both Kirsten and Nick. She was shallow and only out for herself. She seemed to have scant regard for her husband and little daughter. Her only redeeming trait was that she seemed to care for the dog, Rusty. Nick was arrogant, entitled, and narcissistic.

Then there is Amy's rather creepy friend Simon. How does he factor into the equation? he makes Amy feel uncomfortable and this disquiet transfers to the reader.

I highly recommend this thriller to all fans of the genre. With themes of loss, grief, anger, injustice, and revenge, it ticks so many boxes for those who relish a suspense filled tale.

(There is a spoiler warning at the end.)

The Other Couple is probably the most compulsive audio that I have listened to in a long time. I could not stop. This is my first Dianne Jeffrey book and will certainly not be my last.

My son could have driven his motorcycle through my house and I wouldn’t have blinked an eye nor taken my headphones off while this one was playing. I did try to purchase this domestic thriller from Barnes & Noble, but they did not carry the book so I straight away downloaded it, and am glad that I did.

A couple rents a cottage by the seaside and accidentally kills a man out walking with his dog on their way back to London. Did they call the police? No, they stuffed him in their trunk and sped away. Why? Obviously, they had something to hide. At this point all credibility went flying out the window, so I just had to sit back and let it fly. Eye rolls be damned.

Haven’t we learned yet that it is never a good idea to cover up a crime? Of course it isn’t and as any good thriller goes, the victim’s wife decides that revenge is what is needed because of course the police can’t figure out who the perpetrators are but the every day folks can and Amy (the wife) is no exception. With information from her creepy neighbor, who happened to see the vacationing couple, Amy figures out who and where the perps are pretty quick.

Many reviewers are saying that there were lots of twists and turns, but, I really thought this book was pretty straightforward as to what was happening. While, I thought the whodunit could’ve been a little more polished and twisty, It was still fun getting to the end. 4 stars.

SPOILER ALERT ‼️ Don’t Read unless you have already done so! 🔔
.
Am I the only one that hoped, or at least thought that the creepy neighbor had either 1. Already hit Greg and left him only to come back, and realize that somebody else thought they had actually killed him and could take the blame? OR 2. Was and had always been obsessed with Amy and decided to go after Kierstin and Nick himself, inadvertently leaving Amy blameless for something she wanted to do? I did think he was sending her letters from prison.
.
I thought that Simon was going to be the big twist so maybe the author did give me a big twist by not making that happen. Lol
.
.
Did Ben never end up asking Amy for her information and then actually let her stay in his house? WEIRD!
It would have been nice if he had found the necklace but that story got dropped.

Maybe 5 stars if Amy had just stealthily swung by the house and taken her dog back and left, but that’s just me. In the end, Amy is supposed to be healing and normal, but she really just was a cracker jack like the rest of them. It also would’ve been really satisfying if Ben knew what his wife and Nick had actually done. OK, I am going to bed now. Obviously, this is a fun book to talk about… I hope there are some great comments and discussions about this one.😄

"If I can't get justice, I'll get revenge."

This was a wild ride and I loved every minute of it! It deserves all of these high ratings.

Kirsten and Nick are on a weekend getaway. It's time to go back to their lives and Kirsten has a bad feeling. Something is coming. Back to their lives.. did I mention separate lives? Yeah, they're married.. to other people!

They're trying to slither home when an accident complicates things. As they say, the crime is in the cover up and the people left behind are determined to find out what happened to their loved one.

This sordid tale is told in dual narration by the women, Kirsten and Amy. Amy is the wife of the victim. Since the "Taylor" couple didn't leave a real name at their love nest, it's going to be tricky to find them. Unlucky for them, Amy has nothing but time.

This was consistently engrossing and the details were perfect. We knew enough background to get a feel of these ladies but the author let their current narration and feelings do the talking and it was glorious. There were things to root for and people you love to hate. You know, in a fun way!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read and review. This will be one of my most recommended books this year so I don't want to give too much away! The fun is in the shock!

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

That is the best way to describe this twisty, tense, domestic thriller.

This story definitely kept me turning the pages. Just left you with enough doubt to not let your guard down and think you have it all figured out.

This was my first book by Diane Jeffrey and won't be my last.

This is Diane Jeffrey’s best book so far! A gripping cat and mouse game told via the voices of two very different women. The main characters are so well crafted that I became completely obsessed by the plot line trying to work out where The Other Couple was going and I have to say that the ending was so perfect, so satisfying that I had goosebumps. If someone has ruined your life should you take revenge? This is the burning question Amy faces in this tense thriller .

Amy is married to Greg and has just found out she’s pregnant , one rainy night he goes out with their dog Rusty and never returns . She is left questioning what happened to him and vowing to find out exactly what happened to him.

Kirsten and Nick have rented an apartment from Amy and Greg to have a weekend break, one they want to keep secret from their spouses. What starts out as an illicit getaway turns into something more terrifying and far reaching as each couples lives are intertwined in the most unexpected devastating way.

This book drew me in and kept me hooked, I felt for Amy and wondered what I would do if I was in her situation. I’m a fan of this authors writing but this book surpassed her others in my option. One I would highly recommend, a brilliant suspenseful read .

Psychological suspense thrillers are one of my ‘go to’ genres and The Other Couple filled all my expectations of this category. I was completely absorbed in the story right from the very start. Told in alternate chapters by the two main female protagonists. This book will completely and utterly grip you as you frantically turn the pages to discover how things are going to end . I couldn’t predict how things would pan out and even though I did try to do some guesswork of my own I was proven wrong. An extremely well written book with great well developed characters this is an unputdownable read. 5⭐️

Love her books and this one was awesome! The plot revolves around two couples: Amy, husband Greg and Kirsten, husband Jamie (daughter Lily). Their lives become so intertwined as it's a brilliantly plotted and convoluted story when an accident kills one of them, setting off a chain of events that will change all of their lives completely! Jeffrey speaks to themes of passion, adultery, blackmail...all of the gruesome and crazy schemes people can devise when caught up in their own dreams! I raced through it as i simply could not put it down!

My head was spinning while reading this! It takes off on a wild ride.
Kirsten and Nick are away for the weekend. On their way back, they accidentally hit a man. In shock, they decide to cover it up since Nick had been drinking.
Amy is widow left behind, desperate to find out the truth of her missing husband.
The story is told by both Amy and Kirsten. A total cat and mouse game. As the story progressed, I felt like my mind was running a marathon. Whew
-Only one thing bothered me about this book. The way the author wrote the story out. Example- "Kirsten stops what she's doing. Kirsten listens. Amy calls Greg. Amy is sad." These sentences were laid out cut and dry. I think that part kind of drove me crazy. It did have a sensational ending though! Great revenge plot too. If the sentence structure doesn't bother you, I recommend this! Happy reading

Well, that turned out better than I hoped. Five Stars for the ending. Getting there took a bit longer than I liked. I started getting bored with this and especially the parts with the in-laws and her mother. It just slowed the book down. I really thought about not finishing. I'm glad I didn't. The ending is good. It isn't a shocking twist or anything, but it does wrap up in an interesting way that I didn't see coming.

Kirsten and Nick are enjoying a weekend away until, on their drive home, they accidentally run over and kill a man. They should call for help – but they have too much to lose, and no one can know the real reason they’re here. Instead, they make a split-second decision to conceal the accident.

Another book with an author I knew nothing of and now I am very impressed, yes it seems the list is going to get longer. Craig Woods is out walking his dog when the unthinkable happens and he is hit by a vehicle and killed. The passengers of the other vehicle, Kirsten and Nick are about to have their lives changed forever, as is Craig's wife Amy. The decisions that Kirsten and Nick now make at the scene of this accident will have long standing effects for all involved.

I didn't particularly care for Kirsten or Nick, they seemed to be quite shallow and definitely would not be on my dinner invitation list. I really did like Amy's character, a very strong woman who is now faced with so much heartache but she decides to try and leave the grief behind so she find out who killed her husband and obtain justice for him. The story builds slowly but then accelerates as the book progresses, I read this in one sitting as I was enjoying it so much and would highly recommend this one to others, I will also be looking up this author and read some more of her work.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.

I have been on a revenge thriller kick lately, and this one blew my mind 🤯. The last 25% had my heart racing! I put my phone on Do Not Disturb and chewed my cuticles raw 🫣.

Amy’s revenge was so well plotted and clever!! You don’t know what her plans are until the very last pages. I loved the anticipation!

If you are a fan of revenge thrillers you will love this one 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼.

Add this one to your thriller summer reading list!

Thank you @netgalley and @hqstories for my e-ARC.

My Review:
Loved!!!!! This author is amazing!!!!! I have read every single book by her so far and I have loved them all. This book was no different. What didn’t I like is the real question. This one had everything I look for in a great read. It had great characters, a great plot, and of course my favorite a great ending that rocked my world. All the characters were shady as heck. It was fun unraveling all their secrets and finding out what truly was going on. The plot kept me very interested. Who can resist a woman’s quest to find out what happened to her husband. Did he leave her or did something more sinister happen? We follow her journey and let me tell you she never gave up and to me that meant she was super strong in so many ways. I really liked her. Now let’s talk about that ending. Wow, just wow. This author really did this book justice. Read it so you can found out how. That ending left me shocked and speechless. I was so sad to see this one end. I have to say that this might be my favorite book by this author yet. I can’t wait to read more by her.

In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Diane Jeffrey this is my favourite of your page turning novels.

The Other Couple grabs your attention and doesn't let go.

Nothing better than a thriller that involves secrets, lies, a murder and revenge for the life taken.

Nasty characters in the couple who are having an affair , both are selfish narcissistic people.

After a dinner out Nick and Kristen are driving in the pouring rain and hit and kill Greg.

Greg's wife Amy vows revenge and you cant help but cheer for her, cry for her.

That's all I can say without giving away Amy's mission of revenge .

I will say the ending is the best.

Get your copy, clear your calendar and settle in for a wild ride.

Thanks to NetGalley and HQ HQ Digital for a pulse pounding read.

When Greg Woods leaves for a walk with his dog, Amy does not realize she will never see her husband alive again.

Kirsten and Nick are leaving their secret weekend getaway and are driving home when they hit a man walking his dog. They should call emergency services, but both have so much to lose. With everything on the line, they choose to cover their tracks instead of doing the right thing.

Amy will not rest until she finds out what happened to Greg, and when she does, a plan for justice--or revenge is set in motion.

The Other Couple is an edge-of-your-seat thriller with two wholly unlikeable villains and a protagonist you will root for throughout the entire book. I love a good revenge story, and this one definitely delivers and leaves you satisfied at the end. With alternating POV chapters, The Other Couple is a real page turner that will keep you up late at night to find out what happens next.
