Book Festival List Updated for November 2020

I have completed the November 2020 update to my list of book festivals for those who find this a useful reference:

Please note that many festivals have been postponed or cancelled in light of covid-19 and others have gone virtual. The schedule reflects these changes to the best of my knowledge, but is evolving.

“Maybe life involves the pairing of unsuitable people, those who wait and those who keep others waiting, and the key to happiness is finding the one person with whom you share the same internal chronometer.”
Jacob M. Appel, The Biology of Luck

“Marriage is like a series of opposing reflections, inverse images getting ever smaller like nesting dolls, each one of your trying to squeeze yourself smaller to fit inside the hopes of the other, until one of you cracks or stops existing.”
Jacob M. Appel, The Biology of Luck

“This is how most stories end in the hospital. Not with crash carts and sirens and electric shocks to the chest, but with an empty room, a crisp white bed, silence.”

“Nothing sells tombstones like a Girl Scout in uniform.”
Jacob M. Appel, Scouting for the Reaper

“One thing led to another. That was the only way to explain how Arnold Brinkman, who considered both professional sports and young children unjustifiable, had ended up at Yankee Stadium with a nine-year-old boy.”
Jacob M. Appel, The Man Who Wouldn't Stand Up

“Nixon’s offences had been so long in the past, so much part of a different era that he now seemed like some lovable but bigoted uncle you tolerated at Christmas and Thanksgiving.”
Jacob M. Appel, The Man Who Wouldn't Stand Up

“Harlem sleeps late.”
Jacob M. Appel, The Biology of Luck

“Battery Park resonates with lust as the sun approaches its zenith. A primal impulse takes hold of the young couples strolling the gravel walkways, the newlyweds who have paused to admire DeModica’s bronze bull, the truant teens laid out on the cool grass. Maybe because all flesh tantalizes in the early summer, in the right light, or because, at this time of year, there is more flesh exposed, midriffs, cleavage, inner thighs, the park is suddenly transformed into a dynamo of panting and groping. This desire is not the tender affection of evening, the wistful intimacy of the twilight’s last gleam. It is raw, concupiscent hunger.”
Jacob M. Appel, The Biology of Luck

Elena Indeed I did. Thank you for the friend request, Jacob!

Jacob Appel Either would be great. Whatever is most convenient for you. Thanks! Jacob

Patricia Jacob, Thank you very much for sending me Coulrophobia & Fata Morgana. After I received it I realized I had allready read it. I had given the book to a friend, so will either take it to one of our local libraries or put it in our "give and take" box at my hairdresser's. Which would you prefer I do?

Pat

Renée Paule Hi Jacob,

Thank you for your friend request.

Jacob Appel In any competition with Salman Rushie, I am sure to lose, but I can live with that. Thanks for the kind words. Amazon should have the book in stock by next week if all goes according to plan. (It's a full time job keeping my own Jewish mother at bay -- she does a perfectly fine job warding off the rest of them :) )

message 11: by Robert

Robert Blumenthal Hi Jacob. Just finished The Liar's Asylum and really loved it. I tried to post a review on Amazon but they would not allow me until they have the book available for purchase. I noticed in your latest bio that you are obviously the perfect man for every Jewish Mother in this land, being both a doctor AND a lawyer. How do you keep them at bay. I'll be getting to The Mask of Sanity in due time, though you are in competition with such authors as Celeste Ng, Nicole Krauss and Alice Hoffman, as well as Salman Rushdie.

Stacy Merry Christmas Jacob!!!!!!!

Ivonne Rovira Thank you so much for the Friend request. I was stalking the books you've read (forgive me!), and I was dumbstruck by how many of the same books we've both loved!

I also noticed your generous offer of the possibility of getting one of your books in the ebook format; I am dying to read Coulrophobia & Fata Morgana. Is that a possibility? I will understand if you are so besieged with requests that you cannot provide one. I am just flattered that you chose to send me a Friend request at all!

Cheers, Ivonne

Jane Chizmar I just received your book The Magic Laundry. This is a goodreads win and I am looking forward to reading this book in the near future and will gladly post a review on goodreads. Thank you so much. Jane Chizmar, 210 Twin Lakes Dr., Elyria, OH 44035. I have not yet read your book on Miracles and Conundrums if you have an extra copy and would be happy to review that also.

Deborah Congratulations on having not one, but two, books on Kirkus Reviews' Best Indie Books of 2015!

message 4: by Cara

Cara Correnti I'm so happy that I won a copy of Eintein's Beach House, and I'm really looking forward to reading it! :D

Marcia Scurfield Jacob, I just discovered that you have TWO new volumes of stories out: "The Magic Laundry: Stories" and "Miracles and Conundrums of the Secondary Planets"!

"Einstein's Beach House" and "Scouting for the Reaper" are definitely two of the best books I have read this summer, so I will be on the lookout for these two.

Jay R. shepard Hi Jacob, I feel I owe you a big thank you because I have been able to download your books in full on goodreads. I finished "The Man Who Wouldn't Stand Up" and thought it was an amazing read; I'm looking forward to reading the rest. Thank you very much! Oh, also, a very belated thanks for your friend request.

Barbara Hi Jacob, Thank you for being my friend! I just put The Biology of Luck on hold at my local library & I hope that it is the best book of yours written because it is the only book written by you that my library has. This is the first book of yours that I will read. My library only has one copy of The Biology of Luck though, and it is on hold right now, so I have to be patient. I won't be able to read the book at the same time as my best book bud, Ruth, so that's a bummer. Usually we like to discuss every minor plot twist in detail. Maybe I can email the library.
