Ronald Malfi is the bestselling, award-winning author of many novels and novellas in the horror, mystery, and thriller genres. In 2011, his novel, Floating Staircase, was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for best novel by the Horror Writers Association, and also won a gold IPPY award. Perhaps his most well-received novel, Come with Me (2021), about a man who learns a dark secret about his wife after she's killed, has received stellar reviews, including a starred review from BookPage, and Publishers Weekly has said, "Malfi impresses in this taut, supernaturally tinged mystery... and sticks the landing with a powerful denouement. There’s plenty here to enjoy."

Generally, I write about 3,000 words a day, although I often skip some days then make up for it during a marathon writing session. I'm hoping to complete about twenty pages today, for example.

As for Bone White, it took me about a year to write, from first draft to final, which is an unusually long time for me. I tend to edit as I write, so there are never any true first drafts that exist that look much different than the final version. The biggest difference with Bone White was the ending of the book--I rewrote the ending several times before I felt I had gotten it right. It was a balancing act, making sure I wasn't going too far in one direction or not enough in the other.(less)

Edit: I was right. This was amazing.

“I’m so sick of political correctness. I’m suffocated by it. We’re so goddamn politically correct that we lose our individualism, our definition as human beings. Don’t you agree?”
Ronald Malfi, Snow

“It has been said that nature does not know extinction. In effect, it knows only change: nothing ever truly disappears, for there is always something—some part, some particle, some formidable semblance—left behind. You can boil water into vapor, but it hasn’t disappeared. Curiosity killed the cat, but condensation brought it back.”
Ronald Malfi, Floating Staircase

“You can run away, but darkness has quick feet and large wings, and it will follow you...”
Ronald Malfi, Cradle Lake
