How to pack for Glastonbury

I am not a practical camper. Nowhere is this more apparent than at Glastonbury Festival, an event with as much posing and peacocking as a cabaret show. And while I tend not to subscribe to too much preening – no glamping or “pamper” passes here – I do like to have a bit of fun. Serious campers look away: these frivolous upgrades make all the difference.

Never Go Alone hand sanitiser

This essential oil-packed sanitising mist smells even better than perfume. It’s also refillable, and works to nourish your hands as much as it does clean them. The first thing I pack in my day bag. €24, nevergoalone.com

Supergoop! SPF

Even in rainy years, I’ve fallen victim to sunburn at Glastonbury. Because I am a lazy person, I apply my SPF with my skincare. Supergoop!’s aptly named Glowscreen works as both a sunscreen and a primer, combining broad-spectrum protection with hyaluronic acid and collagen-boosting antioxidants. Loop Quiet 2 earplugs 

Between the snoring, music and loud passersby, sleep is a precious commodity at a festival. Loop’s Quiet 2 earplugs help reduce noise by around 24 decibels, while the “Experience” models protect your ears at noisy gigs (and look good while doing so). £19.95, loopearplugs.com

Hai Cosima dress 

Wouldn’t we all like to look like Alexa Chung in her Bella Freud mini dress at Glastonbury 2015? I’ll happily settle for this embellished number by London-based brand Hai (it might be white, but hand-wash is better than dry-clean-only). £315, homeofhai.com

Camper sandals 

Provided it’s not raining, a pair of comfortable, wipe-clean sandals is much preferable to wellies. I have a rainbow ensemble of Camper Kobarah heels at home: the new flat styles are better for long walks (of which you should expect a lot). Not suitable for busy crowds or dancing. Nor would I recommend wearing them in the longdrop toilets. £60, camper.com

Whitebox Cocktails classic selection box

Most festival bars will flog you ice cubes for a couple of pounds; once I’ve sourced some, it’s time for a pre-made cocktail. Whitebox’s “pocket” negronis, dirty martinis and spicy “margs” are unmatched. I’m also partial to anything from the Moth taster pack. Isamaya Wild Star Palette

Where once there was facepaint, now there is sparkly eyeshadow. I feel much too old to cover myself in glitter, but I’m still keen on a statement eye. This palette by make-up artist Isamaya Ffrench is full of high-impact colours for “glamour-obsessed cowgirls” like me. £85, isamaya.co.uk
