When you enter the newly expanded Truffles Butchery on Clayton Road, you'll be greeted by a welcoming smile from a man wearing a name tag that reads MITH – short for "Man in the Hat." The man in the hat is general manager and wine director Aleks Jovanovic, who has been with the Cella family who owns Truffles for over a decade.

Truffles Butchery.
The Cellas have owned and operated Truffles Restaurant since November 1999 and have adapted the space to meet a growing demand for boutique butchery and market items for the surrounding community. Truffles Butchery came to life a decade ago as a natural extension that allowed diners to experience what they were enjoying in the restaurant at home. At the height of the pandemic, Jovanovic witnessed an uptick in demand for quality products customers could use at home, and the 800-square-foot butchery was quickly running out of space to accommodate growing sales. The newly expanded Butchery Market covers 2,500 square feet and is the inspiration of Lily Cella, a 5th generation member of the Cella family who worked with Jovanovic to create the concept.

Additionally, the market has premium glassware and a lineup of beauty products that create a one-stop shop for customers who visit. "The market is truly that; a market," Jovanovic says. "We're not here to compete with the big boys of the world; we are here to satisfy a very specific niche of high quality and provide a very customizable experience that has maybe been lost over the years."

In addition to the outstanding offerings the butchery provides, Jovanovic feels that the root of Truffles' success is due to the team that has been assembled. Everyone involved is part of the decisions being made and the staff work together to source quality ingredients and quality service. Now, Truffles Restaurant and the Butchery Market have created a symbiotic relationship that inspire each other.
Since the completion of the renovation, the butchery continues to see Ladue regulars as well as customers from up to an hour in all directions who make their weekly trek to buy market items to bring home. Even though the space has been tripled, Truffles Butchery remains packed with a fantastic assortment of products thanks to Lily's vision for the space.
Inspired by his team, customers, and exceptional products, Jovanovic will continue to source the best food and wine possible. "Quality comes number one and that's what our customers have come to expect from us and it's a pretty tall bar to keep," he says. "I've been in the industry a very long time and this is something I've never experienced before, and I'm excited and proud to be a part of it."
