The 86th Academy Awards nominations were announced by Chris Hemsworth and Cheryl Boone Isaacs on Jan. 16 and as expected, the films 12 Years a Slave and American Hustle had a major presence with nominations in the acting, directing and Best Picture categories (though if we were to choose one big positive it was Philomena being named among the nine Best Picture contenders).
