Ronnie O’Sullivan’s bitter snooker rival Ali Carter has banned the use of his name at his home in Essex. The players have clashed on a string of occasions and appear to be locked in a bitter feud.

Carter has struggled to get the better of his nemesis over the years and has won just three of their 27 showdowns.

Their last encounter came in the Tour Championship quarter-final at the start of April, with O’Sullivan winning the match 10-2. And in January, The Rocket clinched an eighth Masters title after seeing off Carter in the showpiece event at Alexandra Palace.

Back in 2018, the pair were involved in an infamous shoulder barge incident as they made contact at the table while attempting to pass each other.

And ahead of this year’s Masters final, O’Sullivan took a dig at his rival as he claimed The Captain “has got something against me”.

Carter then accused the 48-year-old of clearing his nose onto the Alexandra Palace carpet during the final frames of their Masters showdown, with O’Sullivan then launching an X-rated tirade at the 44-year-old in response.

Carter was asked about his feud with O’Sullivan on Stephen Hendry’s Cue Tips, with the Scot labelling it “the elephant in the room”.

And the two-time World Snooker Championship finalist told Hendry: “Well he’s actually a banned name in this room. We don’t allow that name to be mentioned. As you’re seven-time world champion I’ll give you an exception.”

Carter allowed himself to be drawn into a discussion about O’Sullivan as he gave Hendry his account of the shoulder barge incident before explaining his disappointment at his Masters defeat.

And the world No 10 ended the exchange by explaining: “To be fair I don’t know too much about him. I say what I see. I hold no malice now really. I’m not around him enough for him to feature in my life. We know he’s a great snooker player and all that but, with regards to anything else, I couldn’t tell you.

“I let people make their own mind up. Whatever you say, the staunch Ronnie fans will always slaughter you so I choose to keep my mouth shut.

“[During matches] he’s very much using his authority to say, ‘This is my table, you’re just taking part here’. He’s constantly [there], you feel him there [breathing down your neck]. And that’s all part of his, whatever you want to call it. And that’s fair enough if that’s what he feels he needs to do to win.”
