Jenna Coleman moves 'engagement ring' back to middle finger

AFTER playing the Queen of England, Jenna Coleman has now reinvented herself as a new Queen of Crime - following the news Vera is coming to an end, TV insiders say.

The 38-year-old star of Victoria has swapped sumptuous gowns for a classic detective's

Mackintosh as she plays a police officer in a new BBC drama The Jetty, set in Lancashire.

Blackpool-born Coleman, currently pregnant with her first child, plays Ember Manningan who is investigating a link between a fire and an illicit love triangle involving underage girls.

Jenna said: "I've been offered so many detectives where you end up being the vehicle for the story, as opposed to a real character, but I could see Ember as fully formed. I felt like the character was living and breathing."

Of Jenna's role, one source commented: "Jenna looks like she's auditioning to be the next Queen of Crime. There is a vacancy, too.

"Vera's Brenda Blethyn has only two more episodes to go in 2025."

Blethyn has played the Mac-wearing sleuth for 14 years but said in April she was quitting.

The Jetty will be available on BBC1 and BBC iPlayer from July 15.
