Charlotte Hawkins reveals she will be covering Katie Piper's show

Good Morning Britain's Charlotte Hawkins announced that she'll be stepping in to assist her ITV co-star.

During Friday's instalment (June 14) of GMB, Charlotte stated she'd be covering for Katie Piper on her Breakfast Show this weekend after previously filling in due to Katie's emergency medical situation.

Katie, 40, had announced via Instagram that she was stepping down from the show due to health concerns. She posted: "I'll be back soon. thank you @charlottehawkins1 for stepping in last minute."

"Sadly I'm not going to be on my breakfast show this weekend as I've had to have an unexpected medical procedure," the Loose Women star added in the caption. "All is well and I hope after some rest I'll be back in the hot seat next weekend."

Updating viewers on GMB, Charlotte, 49, mentioned that Katie won't return this weekend and she'll be stepping in once again.

Host Kate Garraway confirmed this, saying: "Hey, people can't get enough of you, which is me by the way and Rob [Rinder]. You're here with us on Saturday and Sunday morning, aren't you? ".

The mum-of-one responded: "I am! I'm covering for the lovely Katie Piper on her Breakfast Show tomorrow and Sunday at 8:25am. She's recovering at the moment, we're sending her lots of love but in the meantime, I'm stepping out to help out.

"You never quite know what's going to happen with that show. Last week, I was having to do some football, believe it or not!"

A representative for Katie recently said: "Katie's recovery from an eye operation has taken a little longer than expected so sadly she won't be hosting her Breakfast Show again this week. However, she looks forward to returning for the final episodes of the run next weekend," reports the Mirror.

Katie is a regular host for the ITV1 weekend morning chat show that runs every Saturday and Sunday, featuring guests like Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing and Anna Williamson from Celebs Go Dating.

The mum-of-two faces constant medical battles after surviving life-threatening burns and losing vision in one eye due to an acid attack back in 2008 at the age of 24.

She continues to recover from pioneering surgery to restore both her face and eyesight, but complications are ever-present. Katie recently underwent a tarsorrhaphy procedure on her left eye last year, a surgery that involves joining parts or all of the upper and lower eyelids to completely close the eye.

Speaking about the operation, which is used to aid or heal the cornea, Katie stated: "In my case I am trying to preserve the eye, avoid perforation and losing my eye completely."
