The Chase's Bradley Walsh left open-mouthed as contestant admits true age

The Chase welcomed contestant Sheryl, who impressed with her lightning sharp responses - but that wasn't all that left Bradley Walsh taken aback.

The Chase host Bradley Walsh could scarcely believe it when Sheryl revealed her age on the ITV show. The stunned presenter's jaw visibly dropped and he stared at her in shock when she revealed she'd been a finance director for the same company for the past 15 years.

Unable to tally that with her youthful appearance, he quizzed: "15 years? Blimey, you look well!" Sheryl, who didn't reveal her exact age, confessed: "I might be older than you think."

The Welsh-born beauty then quipped: "I've had a good life", while Bradley marvelled: "That's the Flintshire air for you!" However, there was another surprise in store - despite 15 years of work as a director, Cheryl has scarcely left her home country and is yet to visit holiday hotspots like Italy and France.

She revealed that she intended to use her prize money, if she won, to take a trip to Europe. Sadly, that plan went awry, as she narrowly missed out on victory with just 17 seconds remaining on the clock.

Paul Sinha was too swift for her, but he gave a glowing review of her performance. He exclaimed: "I only got two questions wrong in the whole show and that's how well I had to play to beat a team with your talent!"

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers showered her with praise for the performance, with one exclaiming: "Sheryl is some player."

They also echoed Bradley Walsh's astonishment at her age, with one declaring: "Cor! Sheryl's a very pretty lady. #TheChase."

Another added that she "clearly looks after herself".

Meanwhile, fellow contestant Liz attracted attention with her blonde curly mane of hair, with one tweeter cheekily suggesting that she "identifies as Brian May".

Bradley surprised the audience on more than one occasion himself in tonight's episode, after appearing to suggest that he'd "never" watched the Simpsons.

He also made it clear that he didn't help one contestant as she puzzled over a Twelth Night conundrum, explaining that he'd never been "into Shakespeare".

He also had a moment of confusion over a multiple choice question concerning body parts, as he mistakenly suggested "kidneys" was the correct answer instead of "liver".

Despite that, his general knowledge techniques usually impress - and he recently revealed some inside information about the Chasers' witty comeback.

The Chase airs at 5pm on weekdays on ITV.
