Horror as hit-and-run car mounts pavement hitting four people in broad daylight

A car mounted a pavement and hit four people before being driven away from the scene in the middle of the day.

Dramatic scenes unfolded before police officers were called to Prince Street, Walsall, just before 5pm on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

A force spokesperson said: "The driver fled the scene and two men in their 20s were taken to hospital with serious injuries."

Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening and the two other men were not seriously hurt.

An attempted murder probe has been launched.

Officers said they arrested the 27-year-old man on Friday night and he remained in custody for questioning.

They have also found a vehicle they suspected was involved.

The spokesperson said: "We’ve arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after four people were hit by a car in Walsall.

"We were called after a vehicle mounted the pavement in Prince Street just before 5pm yesterday (July 5).

"The driver fled the scene and two men in their 20s were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Fortunately, they’re not believed to be life-threatening and the other two men were not seriously hurt.

"We’ve also recovered the vehicle suspected of being involved and this will now undergo forensic examination.

"Our inquiries into the full circumstances are continuing and we’d ask anyone with information, who has not spoken to us already, to come forward.
